I hear the 'rotten butter' defense a lot. What is the molecular strength (mol/l) of the butyric being thrown? It has to be pretty powerful to instantly taint several tons of meat on contact. I also see no chunks of rotten butter in the liquid when the bottle breaks. I could pour 20 mol/l hydrochloric on someone, causing serious burns and blindness while telling everyone "calm down - it's not real acid, more like vomit".

If the Steve Irwin approached my ship in this threatening of a manner, I would do my best to sink them. Their tactics are pure thuggery. The Japanese government has every right to do what they do, until the LAW is changed. Playing pirate isn't going to change that, all it will do is make someone pissed enough to sink your liberal ass.

And what about the Japenese? Do you have any opinons of them shooting the other ship's Captain? You only showed bits of the video, not both sides of the confrontation.

And the crew of, NOT THE SEA SHEPPERD you idiot!!! the ship is called the " Steve Erwin" well they also have the Farley Mowat (sp) the orginisation is Sea Shepperd. They are within the law, perhaps a bit on the edge of it, but within it. The whalers are outside the law, you may not agree with Sea Sheppherd, but they are not terrorists, not by a long shot.

The ship is actually called Steve Irwin, not Erwin. The acid is not rotten butter, but commercial strength butyric acid. Farley Mowat is being sold via auction in Canada. Sea Shepherd is not within the law. They are pirates as defined by UNCLOS Arrticle 101.

Thank you, excellent video. I seem to remember seeing a similar video with Paul Watson saying it is easier to raise money with their anti-whaling issue than any other issue. But sadly I can not remember the title of that video.

I miss whale cutlet and whale stake. I didn't like whale bacon much. Haven't had it for like 20 years, though. It was the cheapest meat at the time. Whales and dolphin have been hunted since Stone ages in the islands. Japanese government probably wants to ban it, too, but can't tell the locals to stop doing what they have doing since ancient times. Japanese expanded territory in time but couldn't completely make the aboriginals assimilate into Asian Rice farming culture. They never will.

If the Ainu were arguing for traditional whaling, I don't think anybody would be arguing - as long as they have a case for traditional whaling.
It seems that while there has been some sporadic whaling on Japans coast, the 'whaling culture' started post WWII - so you could have some cheap meat to eat.
