I've tried to install FreeBSD but find it amazing that you can only install it on a primary partition? (unlike Linux which will happily live anywhere). So because my 1TB drive is already full of OS's and my only space is 50GB on my extended partion I appear to be stuffed? Very archaic if that's the case!
I tried installing this on my netbook today, and didn't get it... This video seems to clear up the problems I ran into (along with happening across the right bit of the FreeBSD Handbook).
@LATINO2434 I've tried it in a VM. While thoroughly enjoyable, I prefer minimal installs configured with a few apps and a WM, not the added bloat that KDE (or even a light environment like LXDE adds).
this is really poor, man. At least give us a handout to configure such a thing as X, or do you consider your installation done when you see a bourne shell ? ..
I installed freeBSD some days ago. This is a good tutorial - i wish i had seen this before installing, because i had some trouble with the partitionong. Great system though - recommend it.
Hi.....I was wondering when it asks you if you'd like to install extra packages, what is "D" versus "X." I know that "X" appears when I want to install something, but the D is appearing for no reason.
@TheTorminator D means Dependency. It is like if you for instance do into the gnome section and click on the actual package, it will say X, but all of the things required for gnome to work properly will have a D.
Kyle, your sound is very, very low on this video. Thanks for the tutorial though!

Am I doing something wrong while partitioning? I keep getting Status 36 when it tries to create the root filesystem.
