  • spilled his beer?

  • @bb0ysmiley thanks for your reply, I´ve read about 14 biographies ´bout Chopin, 5 Liszt, there is an isue of all letters of Ferdinand Hiller, I read kind of biography of Charles Valentin Alkan, Camille Saint-Saens, Felix-Mendelssohn-Bartholdy, Robert and Clara Schumann, kind of essay about Ludwig Schuncke etc

Chopin was sometimes impressionable first, later often changed an opinion, he did not like people playing like a monkey (=Liszt), it took Liszt about 8 weeks to learn Chopin´sOP10

  • @bb0smiley in the 1830´s Liszt was known as a performer, not as a composer, he was one of the first so called stars along the lines of Paganini. I know 2011 is Liszt ann.,but although his great idol was Beethoven, it was Chopin who encouraged his creativity - L. must have adored Ch. that much, he was even the first to write a bio about Chopin. He could play Mendelssohn´s g-minor concert at sight, but Chopin etudes he could not. Chopin was his master. A.Rubinstein did not dare record op10

  • He should dye his beard 'n hair and lose 30lbs. i remember him as a young lad thrilling the audience with his Chopin competition win.

  • "Who is the best pianist in the world ? Thalberg or Liszt ? The answer: it´s Chopin."

That´s what most people thought in those days. Chopin´s influence and abilities can not be described to the whole extent. During Chopin´s lifetime Liszt didn´t write anything noteworthy. It was first and foremost Chopin who set limits to Liszt´s abilities, Liszt couldnt play his etudes at the first go, it took him many weeks to learn. Every Chopin-piece is a jewel, Liszt however made a lot of nerving noise

  • @junghesse About Liszt and the Chopin etudes. After Chopins Paris debut on 26th of February 1832, he wrote a letter to Hiller where it says: "I am writing without knowing what my pen is scribling, as Liszt is at this moment playing my Études and banishing all suitable thoughts from my head. I should like to rob him of the way he plays my studies". As a 14 year old, Liszt could sightread the hardest works and transpose if necesary.

My source is a biography made by Derek Watson.

  • One of my favorite Chopin interpreters, but I think Liszt did a lot more than Chopin pianistically, even performing some of the etudes which Chopin couldn't play (his hands were somewhat too delicate) and composing for example pieces that could be considered impresionistic or modern. You'll have to consider that Liszt lived almost twice as much as Chopin.

  • Well spoken. Thank you!

  • i have "the complete etudes Chopin" by Garrick, amazing disc, one hour of beautiful piano playing

  • ohlsson / chopin.. fantastique..

  • I adore Ohlsson playing Chopin - for me he's the best...

too bad he's drooled on his shirt here, must of got a bit carried away...

  • @ldnkid looks like sweat. isn't the right armpit wet as well? he might have played tennis before coming for the interview. I presume that the piano room is air-conditioned?

  • this guy is better than argerich, too bad he's not as famous as her..

  • I haven't heard him play all of Chopin's etudes, but, op 10 no 1 is most excellent by him. Beautiful left and right hand balance in dynamics, also, very smooth playing.

  • Garrick Ohlson is the MAN. Please post more of this gourmet shit...

  • Oh and please post more....

  • Great video thanks for posting!
