Yes, he lied to her but he did truly love her(Jane).It is my understanding the marriage to Bertha was not consumated as she was with another man right after they got married and her mental state became very clear to him.Mauve is right about living a lie, that would have really been torment for Rochester.This is a 5+++++ Absolutely breathtaking video and music
