  • Dude your truck is amazing, i'm kind of jealous!

  • Hi. Nice car. What's year? I like it car

  • Very impressive!

  • Did the frame have to be modified to hold the 6v53 cause of weight and size? I'd like to do a 2-stroke Detroit swap to some truck.

  • Have u tracked ur mileage with this setup?

  • Alright, I've been wanting to build a 1 ton diesel 4x4 Econoline (75-91 era), but the Powerstroke and 5.9 Cummins are both too common. But a 6V53 looks like it's actually a great match.. and it's been right under my nose the whole time; you can find these anywhere cheap.

  • Anyway you could adapt an electric PS system onto the vehicle? I'm sure that would help a ton for drivability.

  • Somebody inside their house might thinking the city bus is coming down the street.

  • Sweet... :)

  • You forgot to do slam your hand in the door before you drove your truck, number 1 rule of a Detroit. Very cool truck, now I want to put a detroit in my 2500 Suburban!

  • Slick ride! I've contemplated finding a short-wheelbase, single axle '67-'72 Chevy or GMC medium duty cab & chassis and swapping a 6-53 or even a 6-71 Detroit into it. Those old Detroits sound wicked!

One of my many projects is a '71 GMC sprint- the kissing cousin of the El Camino. I'm kicking around the idea of swapping in a 90's era GM 6.5 turbodiesel. What do you think?

  • That right there is sexy. I envy u.

  • I would want the rpm about 1500 at 60mph with an overdrive

  • Thumbs up if you kept replaying this to hear it wind out!

  • mud it

  • Where did you get the engine?

  • God I love that year F-truck. That motor only makes it more badass-nice work!

  • @globalswgetter I love it too. GM engine in a Ford!

  • wow good job man! id hold on to this if i were you, id sell my wife before i sold this truck.

  • Thumbs up to a Diesel swap, that's not a cummins!!!

  • 2:04 = shwing!!!

  • That truck is a fucking beast

  • I like the parking brake

  • how hard was the install???

  • you should lower your idle speed just a touch cause these engines sound great at a low idle

  • What front end does it have?

  • Hey I really love your truck. But can this compete against a cummins 5.9 12V ?

Like could you get huge injectors n turbo? and an auto built trans? Just asking because one day id like to put a 6v92 or something in a old truck but want it to be as fast as a 500hp dodge like mine..

Thanks for the response in advance!

    Joey

    Oh and nice sounding detroti!

  • @baallzdeep This Truck Without A Turbo Runs Faster Than My Buddies 2000 Ford Diesel on propane. I Am Willing To Bet It Will outlast Any 5.9 12v and Pull Just As Hard With A turbo.

  • @streetwires01 A non-turbo 6V-53 pulls about 450-460 ft. lbs. torque at about 1700 RPMs and is 215 HP (195 HP post-1972). The Cummins in a Dodge Ram is 300+ HP but the maximum torque is 400 ft. lbs.

  • @baallzdeep i didnt a turbo there so if theres not there already i dont think theres enough room for a turbo under that hood and i guessing he had to beef up the front end of that pickup truck to even subport the weight of that motor i wounder if it too light now in the rear end is? iv seen some pickups where its so light in the rear that these bob around after going over small humps and it makes it harder to control when driving them around its alot of work to do something like this

  • i would buy that truck in a heart beat even know im a chevy fan

  • Wanna sell it? I would pay handsomely for that thing...

  • Thoes old 2-strokes sound like armageddon- my pc speakers do it no justice...

  • NICE!!!!

  • Only thing that would kind of bother me with owning a 2-stroke diesel is that it sounds like it's running a lot more RPM then it really is, so when I get back into my 4-strokes, I'd end up thinking I can wind it out further then I actually can and throw a rod.

  • is that a silver ddec engine or just have new valve covers?

  • awesome!!!!!!!!!!

  • Comment removed

  • awesome tow rig, nice

  • what tranny do you got bolted to the detroit?

  • pure aural SEX listening to that thing! Oh God, I'd never get tired of driving it just to hear it. Talk about waking up the neighbors on a cold morning! Everyone with asshole neighbors like what I have needs one.

  • WOW, thats crazy!

  • man i wish i was as skilled as you.. a detriot in a pickup you dont see those very often!

  • That is sick. I would love to make a pickup like that!! Good job

  • i'm still waiting to see an 8v92 in a pickup, i know it'd be heavy as all hell, but it'd be amazing, this still is an amazing truck!

  • You got jakes in there ? Dought it nobody had jakes for these 2 strokes i wanna hear emm in a v53 i know how they sound in the 92's and 71's

  • what did tou do for springs in the front? it doesnt seem to sag for having that heavy of an engine in there.

  • dude how2 much i would love to pay cash for somthing like that

  • It's nice to hear a Detroit Diesel that the rack is set right. Tell who ever set the rack "good job" that's the way they are suppose to sound. About 80% of all two stroke Detroits are not running up to par and people don't even know it. I know two mechanics that know something about Detroit Diesels that the factory doesn't know, after hearing their motors run the rest are disappointing except yours. IT SOUNDS GOOD!!!

  • dude that is a totally awesome set up you have there! thumbs up for sure!

  • you should learn how to shift...

  • this is awesome. great job very jealous.

  • Props on the truck man, she's a force to be recond with.

  • Living the dream. Go you good thing!

  • i ment wiperblade.

  • Sounds fuckin amazing, you need a new wiperbla though.

  • Drive it like you fuckin stole it :)

  • Sweet truck did you build it up

  • what did you have to do for your crossmember?

  • Just wondering what you had to do for your crossmember. Did you have to move it at all?

  • Where did you get this truck from? I would love to know where i can get one.

And i love all the switches you where pushing. What are they for since there were so many?

  • beautiful! how's the front suspension handle the weight? balljoints, steering etc?

  • @6tibbar It Keeps Breaking the front end / I am Going to probably end up with Rockwells in the near future.

  • one of the coolest things i've ever seen

  • Kick ass!

Great rig you have, has to be a blast to drive.

  • Fuck cummins, i'm getting a detroit

  • What kind of transfer case are you running?|

  • Wow it really goes when you get it wound out? What kind of gears do you have out back?

  • @Blue10AEMia I Believe they are 4:56 in the axles

  • @streetwires01 LOL That would mean no highway driving at all right?

  • @pwarren1010 I Drove It 4+ hours to Las Vegas and back on the highway. It Will Run As Fast As 90-100 if you wanna push it. It Purrs Along At 75

  • @Blue10AEMia Thats the way them ole Jimmys had to be ran.

  • Is that guage cluster out of a 70s GMC Brigadier?

  • You know, my dad worked on Detroits of all shapes and sizes for years as a marine mechanic. He lovingly calls them "Drip-Troits"(apparently, in marine applications, they tend to leak more fluids). He liked this video, and could appreciate the novelty factor of this engine in such a sweet old truck, but he HATES ME now because this video made me want a truck like it! This is one of my favorite YouTube videos, and I watch it whenever I wanna hear that awesome Detroit wide-open throttle sound!

  • I f***ing love that sound!!!!

  • nice its got twice pipes

  • now why did ya have to go and upload this now ive drooled all over the keyboard

  • After the movie Maximum Overdrive i have been terrifying of Detroit Deisels LMAO The Sound is creepy.

  • Hey Im planning on doing the same thing except I'm replacing the Corvette LT1 in my 1984 Chevy Silverado with a Detroit Diesel..How much did your project overall cost you?

  • Hey Im planning on doing the same thing except I'm replacing the Corvette LT1 in my 1984 Chevy Silverado with a Detroit Diesel..How much did your project overall cost you?

  • I would VERY MUCH like to know what was involved with the conversion process. Please mail me if you would have the patience to answer a few questions! THANKS!

  • sweet ride dude you need to throw a set of stacks on it with flappers

  • THIS IS FRIGGIN AWESOME! I LOVE IT!

  • Well done. An amazing engine in a great truck. Nice Job

  • Love it

  • OMG, it sounds like a school bus at low RPM, but hey... sounds sweet!

  • Not sure what the speeds are spedo is off but it has a Clark 5speed with overdrive with a round SAE bell housing it is huge.

  • @streetwires01 Hey i planning on doing the same conversion as you did except I'm planning to replace the corvette Lt1 in my 84 Chevy Silverado with a Detroit Diesel or a Cummins, overall how much did you spend on this project?

  • that will be in mint condition with a bit of work guy. floor that screamin jimmy she likes it.

  • what is your top speed in all 4 gears and at what RPM. Also, did you have any trouble bolting up to the 4 speed tranny.

  • needs bigger exhaust!!!!!!!

  • @rivercrestcolts55 i Have dual 4'' stainless to go from the header back and big 4'' mufflers for it just have too many projects to finish before I can build it up. Gonna Put big stacks in the bed

  • @streetwires01 sweet dude my grandpa had a 69 359 Peterbilt with a 6v53 in it, he put over a million miles on it and blew it up and put a 6v71 in it, they sound fuckin awesome with straights btw!

  • @streetwires01 When I used to be a volunteer fireman we repowered an old Seagrave KB pump with a 6V-53T. We had the exhaust tapered from 4" out of the turbo's outlet to 6" then had an 8" tailpipe from the muffler on out. No doubt that gave the engine a lot more pep than it would have had.

  • @streetwires01 How much power does that truck have ? I'm 3/4 of the way into putting the same engine with an eaton fuller 7 speed into a 83 Chevy 3500 crew cab and was curious if you were happy with the power.

  • @streetwires01 hell yeah!! Stacks are beast.

  • what it is is that the supercharger in the series on complete line of 2 or 3 stroke engines.. witch makes the compresion in the motor knock a little louder.. witch thats why the truck has no power stearing and makes it tuff to turn corners.. aslo the turbo puts out about 90 bk witch gives it about 5 extra horses.. dos every one get that?

  • dude thats frigin sweet

  • Nice Swap, Doing A 6V-53TTA In A '72 Chevrolet C10 Longbed.

Was That A 944 Or A 924 I Saw Sitting Outside Your House? Own A 1984 944 Myself I Plan To Swap An LS1 In, Lol.

  • Dude.... That thing is fucking badass! Nice work!

  • for sale? lol

  • I wanna buy it since I love a 2 stroke diesel !! Acceleration of your truck looks dramatic !!

  • BADASS!!!

  • I like the speaker system :)

  • It already has a Supercharger to evacuate the exhaust. Sooooo. Why would DD offer

turbochargers in series on the complete line of 2 stroke engines? Anyone want to tackle this question?? V.

  • @vaccumme The turbo creates more boost compressing the incoming air into the cylinders. The blower only boosts up to 6psi, therefore the turbo is used to force more air into the cylinders. More air allows for more Fuel which in turn increases power output. Also the blower has a bypass valve that opens around 5psi allowing the turbo to create more boost without putting pressure on the blower seals and reducing the load on the engine from the blower.

  • @streetwires01 I'm a little confused (suprise!) I thought that the Blower was used to scavange the exhaust out of the cylinders so that the next power stroke could take place. If this is true, then the Blower and Turbo woud not have anything to do with the power stroke? What am I missing with my assumption? V.

  • @vaccumme You are correct but in the same stroke it also fills the cylinders with the air for the power stroke the exhaust valves open at BDC and close after the exhaust is expelled, then the fresh air in the cylinder is compressed on the up stroke and ignites at TDC it is a 2 stroke so the intake and exhaust are on the same stroke.

  • @vaccumme I just made a video playlist with a couple videos that illustrate how the detroit 2 stroke works

  • @streetwires01 Thanks for the reply and the indepth info. Now I can see how a turbo would be an advantage. one last question: Can you compare the DD power

to a gas Engine of the same CID ? V.

  • @streetwires01 Nice Swap, Doing A 6V-53TTA In A '72 Chevrolet C10 Longbed.

Was That A 944 Or A 924 I Saw Sitting Outside Your House? Own A 1984 944 Myself I Plan To Swap An LS1 In, Lol.

  • @BigCProductions99 that is my brothers 88 mazda RX-7 it has a ford 302 and a T-5 in it

  • @vaccumme Simply this- the supercharger is not a supercharger. It's a blower.

It's not providing boost, thus it is not a supercharger.

That part, from that very engine (along with other detroits) has been modified in drag racing to supercharge those engines, but a blown detroit is considered normally aspirated.

Turbo charging provides boost, boost gives more power.

It's kind of like saying the Cummins is a 4 stroke, it takes in its own air, why turbocharge it?

  • @vaccumme a 2 stroke diesel has to have the supercharger in order to pull air into the engine on the intake stroke. It doesn't produce any boost. The turbo works like a turbo on any other engine, packing more air charge into each stroke.

  • Outstanding!! V.

  • upon maginable sound :)

  • gotta love the oil spots were he parks the truck you know thaTS A DETROIT

  • nice truck. what kind of trans + transfer case + gears r you running? hows the fuel milage?

  • AWESOME!!

  • really love the sound of a 2 stroke detroit!!!

  • hahahaha thats awesome man gotta love diesels no matter how old or new
