We get worse than this. I don't know why someone posted this video, it's pretty common to get one or two cold snaps where the actual temp is -20 or -30 each winter in Minneapolis. I remember many times feeling totally relieved to walk outside with a temp of 0 after one of those cold snaps and feeling as happy as if spring had arrived.
My dad lives up in Northern Minnesota. I make the drive up there from Minneapolis a lot. It's normally at least 10 degrees colder there but one thing I've found is that it doesn't feel as cold there. All the pine trees block the wind and it's really serene. Bone chilling cold, serenity, and sunshine make for a beautiful crisp winter day followed by a crystal clear starry night.
This is just all wrong! Do you people wake up one day and say, "Hey let's move to the coldest place we can find." any winter breaks when biting insects the size of small imported cars show up? Ahhh, no thank you, I'll live where the food grows all year round and you can wake up and pretend winter is so beautiful. Smart scandinavians did not trade one frozen hell for another, they moved to where the small act of walking outside does not endanger one's life...
@samadipants The summer's in MN are paradise....But you're exactly on point. I wake up every winter morning and ask myself, "What in the fuck am I doing here!".
@samadipants One more thing I forgot to mention to you. Why don't I just move...Well the standard of living in MN is one of the highest in the nation. That's probably the reason we put up with this frozen hell as long as we do.
I have to ask, how do you people in Minnesota do it. I grew up in NYC and now live in Southern CA. The coldest I ever felt was a night I was out in NYC and the temperature was 1 degrees with a -28 windchill. I was very concerned about my well being. I was out there for five minutes and immediately felt the urgency to go inside. I would imagine that kind of MN cold pierces through everything.
It's hit -60F in northern MN, and in the upper middle of Michigan's lower penninsula - away from the insulating lakes - it has hit -51F officially & -54F unofficially, all temps. not including windchill. Hope this winter is short & warm.
Wow ... love it ... I'm from Seattle and we get some cold zaps every now and then because were so far up North ..... those Alaskan cold fronts slam us sometimes.... I guess the Ocean is the only thing that keeps it somewhat warmer compared to you guys .... fun stuff.... LOVE cold weather.... looking forward to winter already .....
When stuff like this happens here no one cares on national news. Then, when it moves east to New York and it's not as bad as it was here, it's all over national news and everyone freaks out. :/
Yeah, I was looking at Winnipeg temps last night on wunderground and couldn't believe how cold it was. It was twenty degrees colder than the Twin Cities. We'll be -5 tonight.
It was an unusual event. A whole week with the temp below zero. Had I not taped it my friends in CA would not believe it. Oh and this is the only one of my 133 videos that is of the news. Let's see what you have.
Put on a jacket and stop whining....Bring on the cold baby!!

newspot221 4 years ago
The thing is if you ask most Minnesotans they would rather stay in MN. It's nicer here
snikliw87 3 years ago 10
I'll just stay in Washington D.C.
Not to hot, not too cold. We get a little of everything.

It was something else for me, being that I am originally from California. I like it though. Just not for a whole week.
