WHY? Is there so many foreigners narrating everything from Nascar, Speed Tv, and every commercial selling things on television? Not enough Americans to do the job?
Next TV will be in spanish with English Sub Titles! Sir David
Everyone knows about the relationship between AC, Shelby, and Ford. It's wrong to call it American, just like it's wrong to call it British (with the wrong engine). It's a hybrid.
I don't think it's wrong to call it an American icon, though. It is iconic to the American tendency to put too much engine in a car.
Besides, it was the 289/427 engines that made it so successful. With the smaller European engines, it was just another cute sports car.
American icon??? This car is an AC cobra... AC was the first british car company.... The only thing that was american in the original cobra was the ford engine.. Really do you belive that americans can built a car as beutifull as this??? Remember the 60s americans were making boxes with weels... Even now they cant make a nice car... This is a classic british sports car with the wrong engine this is not an american muscle car....
@pieris87 Almost right. All pre-continuation (what a concept!) cars were built by AC in England; but the design of the 427-engine'd Mk. III was a collaboration with Ford. Both Brits and Americans have design and bragging rights to the Cobra which most people iconify as the marque. Americans do build beautiful cars: The American Chris Bangle was design chief of BMW for 17 years, and the lovely little Mazda Miata was penned by a California design studio, for just two examples.
@RaceDeck Does this car replicate the framework and suspension like the originals? Or like the Superformance MKIII's? Do you have to buy it without engine/transmission just as the Superformance cars?
Superformance uses a mild steel chassis. This one is aluminum tubing? Which one is closest to the original '60's car? Thanks, Joe
Funny that they think that kirkhan was the first to build a complete factory built car, and the first was built by Hy Teck Automotive which you would know as a Superformance MKIII Cobra. I myself like Superformance because of the hand laid Fiberglass body and even inside the trunk doors and hood are just as a nice finish as the rest of the body.. Kirkham dies make a nice frame more like the original but stronger where the original bellied because of the tube wall thickness. They are both great!
@NeoQuello The frame is very strong & ever stronger than the original. the tubing has a thicker wall and this is where the strength is. I am a fan of both Kirkham & Superformance so I am torn between both because of the good points of both.
The Kirkham body is more of a work of art than the glass body of superformance.
But coming from a noxious limey trying to define the language, of course it's easy to understand why you charge us with a bastardization. By the way, it was YOUR Sir Humphrey Davy (discoverer of the base metal from which aluminum was drawn) who coined the word "aluminum" before some limey nutjob objected and the word "aluminum" was bastardized into "aluminium."
Actually...Aluminum has one "I". So it's "Al-U-Min-Um". It's you brits who add extra syllables and letters to words in order to sound more "classy"...but sometimes you just sound ridiculous.
it annoys me the way aussies say "cawbra :(

The best car I have ever owned. The craftsmanship is second to none and the thrill is still there everytime I drive it.
You will not be disappointed if you decide on a Kirkham Roadster...
