He didn't get the radio play unless he had a hit, but then that was top 40 radio then too. The same beast, but a much better beast than it is now. Another much forgotten vehicle was the T.V. promoted 'greatest hits' ad campaign ( the infamous 'Slim Witman's or Boxcar Willie's sold more records than the Beetles!') I first respected Johnny Rivers from those very catchy T.V. commercials. Maybe the ad wasn't catchy, but that music sure was. I've been a fan ever since. See they weren't all bad.

Takes me back to Friday & Saturday nights at the local roller rink in the 70's. Fallng in love for the first time during a "couples only" skate with this song playing. The love affair ended by the end of the night (hey, we were only ten!) but was awesome while it lasted!!

In '77 my girlfriend and I loved it when this song was played at our school dances. I was a horrible dancer but *anybody* can slow dance.

I have the J.R's greatest hits CD and the intro of this song has cricket noises (so I'm guessing the radio version did too--can't remember). With or without crickets, this is a great song.
