When I lived in the Pacific Northwest I used about 1/4 cup of regular ammonia, about 3 tablespoons casteel soap (dr. Bonners is good) and about 2 gallons of water. It killed earwigs, slugs, aphids and who knows what else. My leaf lettuce and other leaf crops grew huge too. Ammonia nitrate is a fertilizer.
When I was in the Pacific Northwest I used about 1/4 cup regular ammonia about 1 tablespoon of soap and about 2 gals of water. The ammonia seems to kill earwigs, aphids, slugs (the small baby slugs that you can't pick up) and my produce seemed to grow larger. :-)
@saintveil I'm no gardener (yet), but I imagine the soap you choose does matter. A soap with minimal chemicals would probably be best for the plants (and you). Maybe lye soap or some other natural soap?
@cliftut - Member "webcajun" says that his dad used this stuff 50 years ago. He would buy the pepper and garlic oil and add soap and water. For me, it didn't help with the corn worms at all; seemed to get worst.
@WuTangghost0007 ok so that's not good for you but how is it UNNATURAL? people have been making soap from plants and animals for thousands and thousands of years, and while the bulk bars you can buy at costco certainly have man made chemicals in them, it's not hard to find soap which is totally natural. Furthermore, I doubt that this sodium laureth sulfate is in soap in any real concentration, because I've been washing with cheap soap for years and have neither hair loss nor skin irritation.
@MrJivePirate disease takes time. so does hair loss. and genetic mutations due to prolonged use of your cheap detergent soap. so when you or your kid gets diagnosed with eczema. remember your soap was only a nickel. and now u gotta buy a lifetime supply of lotion.
@MrJivePirate i agree people have been making soap for thousands of years but only after world war 2 the soap industry changed from natural to chemical for large scale production. saying you dont think it is in large form means you have no idea about the precentages of the sodium laureth sulfate. that is just part of the problem with soap. the scents they add and not your old school essential oils they are man made and highly cancerous
I've been watching all your videos and really love them , & appreciate your informative and easy-going style. Thanks for sharing your knowledge like this. You're inspiring me! :)
i missed the instructions but wow, it looks fine. do you only spray it all over your plants? and what's the advantage to using this over commercial sprays and fertilizers... will it work as well?
can I use store bought dried chili, Dr. Bronnors liquid organic peppermint soap, and store bought garlic? I am very new to gardening, and these are things I have available right now.
Should be fine in my opinion. The only potential problem I can think of is that the mint may reduce the range at which the garlic is detected. But that may be my human perception as mint is a good smell for humans and is often used to cover garlic breath. From what I've read the soap its self is meant to repel by taste and it can make a bug sick. Organic soap would raise my comfort level with eating the food too.
Enjoying your videos a lot!! I was wondering what kind of soap? Looks like bar soap, but can liquid dish soap, or are you using like the organic goat soap or something?
Would this be good for young seedlings that I am putting into my garden. We have trouble with snails. Would this be effective or would something else be better? Thanks !

The cayenne killed some tomato leaves and the corn drooped. I wonder if it was the soap? The cucumbers, radishes, carrots, and onions did alright.

Loving everything except the soap. There has to be something natural that would serve the same purpose. 5 stars anyway :)

Wonder if it really works.
