We largely avoided color clash by moving everything 8 pixels at a time, the size of a color attribute. It meant the games would always be moving at a fair clip. Yes we followed this up with Dan Dare 3 which originally started out as a game call Crazy Jet Racer about a spaceman and his retractable unicycle! If you like the color here you should check out our last spectrum game "Extreme".
What i think was the most impressive thing they did with this game is the brilliant use of the spectrums colour limitations. i was really impressed as never before back in the day.
postnote, I can think of few MegaDrive or SNES vids which show off such stretching of hardware limitations than the sideways scrolling and amount of software sprite's as this.. please do the Dan Dare games's, this was a brill video *_+ :D
That looks a lot better than the typical Spectrum game, which bears a disturbing resemblance to a Game Boy enhanced with a color overlay. This was designed by the Earthworm Jim guys, I take it?
Look how may individual sprites their moving on collisions, how much their moving on diff levels, it's certainly impressive for a single 3.5 Mhz processsor with no Sprite or hardware scrolling :D
and yeah this was from the Earthworm Jim guys from the Snes and Megadrive (and indeed amiga), but too see them on the Speccy is to see what good coder's they were I hope you agreee, look at Teenage Mutant Turtle's, the nes convo, it's amazing *_+, the, framerate etc :D
Ok, I'll grant you that the graphics are good for their time/system. But comeon, this game played like shit on a stick. Rather than play this, try the following: 1) Sacred Armour of Antiriad, 2) Space Harrier, 3) Cybernoid. You've basically then got no reason to play this game.

This series of games has two amasing things:
1. Really cool 48K music - no game had such music, outperforms most 128k tunes.
2. Mostly avoided color clash!

Great game for the Speccy! But I wonder why you have code on the top area of the screen. :)

Nice video ! Still impressive to see how much stuff they get moving round the screen with scrolling as well :)
