@marlis44 In the larger houses they would only have responsibility for the female servants, with the butler having responsibility for the male staff (inside the house - the ground staff would be separate). By the 1950s establishments were reducing staff levels, and housekeepers took charge of a whole household staff.

This version is the only one that even addresses the natural reaction of the British press.
So many layers in this show. So few in the new cheapo copies.
