You need to control your audience a bit. This is a common practice in any number of tricks. Basically you just need to make sure that they aren't standing in front of you so close they can look down in the cup and see the ball. Suggest they sit down to get more comfortable, or step back to "get a better view" or whatever else you can come up with.
I'm glad you only posted the self working version. The professional routines, like Dai Vernon and Tommy Wonder, require so much sleight of hand it's ridiculus.
