  • Very, very nice! Nice string bending too! :-)

  • Awesome job man! I have a version of rocky top on my channel but the guitar isn't as intricate because people are singing, but you should check it out. Nice tele btw.

  • @EquivocationOverload Thanks, I like your Version too. Also a good singer.

  • I have the same Telly. and man it doesn't sound like that. Wow

  • Thanks! I saw your videos, the tele sounds good to me...

  • dude you kick ass...

    Danke!

  • Do you really play that fast or did you speed the video up? Regardless it is beautiful playing sped up or not...

  • Thanks! That´s a moderate tempo for blue grass I think:)

  • @holgerbogen That is amazing. Is there anyway you could send me the background track you used for this? (as well as your other songs too?)

    Thanks!:)

    Martin

  • Hi Martin, vielen Dank! Habe mir gerade Deine Sachen angeschaut, absolut klasse! Ich liebe Jerry Reed & co. Gruß Holger

  • hi one question

    what scales do you use??

  • Hard question...over major chords I mix blues pentatonic and mixolydian (dom7) notes. Sometimes I combine scale notes chromatically or throw in "blue" notes. Over Minor chords the same only that I play melodic minor instead of mixolydian.

I actually dont´t think in scales, I much more have certain "shapes" and licks that work for me because plain scales don´t really have musical content that I can access when improvising. Hope I could answer your question...

  • "Shapes and licks that work" says a lot to me. I don't play as well as you do, but when I lose myself in my picking I am seeing shapes across the neck and hearing licks that work in a timing framework. I liked the way you put it.

  • Very Good!

  • You are officially my favorite guitar player now.

  • Man thats some reeeel geeetar playin holy by lordy

  • good job sounds awsome

  • Wow man, you kick some ass. Like the custom Tele a lot!

Got a customized Tele myself, but it's very different. (But great as well ;-)

    Cheers from Holland

    Patrick

  • It´s a Japanese tele, I´m glad you like it (and my playing):)

  • can you send the tab and the track to my hotmail adress? It's in my account in the decription.

    thanks a lot !

  • yiiiiiiihaaaaaaaa !!! lol good job

  • Great playing, great sound!

    Gretsch'n

  • That's a good guitar player.

  • Great! my grandparents used to have this song and i always used to listen and sing along with it when i was like 5! Love it!

  • great pickin, :) really inspiring, cool sound, I always believed it was written by Ricky Scaggs.

  • great picking man...I would love to learn to play that Rocky Top solo. I have been playing for 7 years (but only blues and rock) but lately I have become a huge fan of country/rockabilly music. Where did you learn to play like this?

  • Thanks man! It´s hard to say because I´ve been playing for 30 years now. The most important thing is to be inspired by better players and first to try and play thier solos. Find out how they do it. Often it is easier than it looks. It would have been much easier if I had "YouTube" and internet back then:) Maybe I will TAB this solo if I have some spare time.

  • Hey that's great pickin'. Rocky Top was originally made famous by the Osbourne Brothers. It was written by Felix Bryant.

  • Oh really? I always believed it was written by Roy Clark. Thanks !

  • Holger, CW is right in their post above. Roy didn't write one. I'll bet he wished he had. PLEASE I BEG YOU (and others too) to put your tab up for us country pickers. Holger, we beg you my friend. This is one GREAT guitar solo here. I have heard one solo that is very similar to yours but I must say my friend, your is a 10 on a 10 scale. I hope you can find the time to TAB it for us all.

  • Thanks very much! Sorry, but I´m too busy at the moment to TAB this stuff out. I haven´t posted anything for months either. I´d probably have to slow it down myself and hear what I played (most of it is improvised). I have a TAB of "working man blues" on my website, maybe you´ll like that?

  • like it!!

    Thanks for posting!

    Larry

  • worthy of the song, sounds terrific.
