  • Calibrate your screens, just because that screen seemed more accurate out of the box doesn't mean it applies to all LED displays. Also you can only get darker blacks with a full LED backlit screen with local dimming, a better LCD panel or by running your backlight lower. A brighter light can't make darker blacks, period.

  • good video, but u didnt say the downsides with having a LED monitor, if there are any what are they?

  • whites and blacks!

  • Am I the only one that honestly prefers the look of the LCD? I honestly like the "layers of varnish over the wood".

  • @GrugDude so do i, LED makes colours look washed out

  • can you do a episoeda about all the monitor panels? please i'm buying a new monitor and i don't change my computer stuff all the time.

  • 6:00 to 6:09 the LCD actually looks better lol the white is whiter, while the LED looks green'ish.

    :D

  • This video makes no sense only people with LED's are going to be able to see the difference :P

To people with LCD's the screens will look exactly the same since the colours will go the same on the LED as they are on the LCD.

  • @TrueKinth I have an LCD monitor and I see the difference..

  • Same

  • I don't get why monitors and tvs are getting so much thinner, yet the bases are still about the same size. In this video it even looks like the led base is bigger.

  • @TheSaltyDalty dont forget you can wall mount them though.

  • Hey, if you ever want to put show the diffrence in the black again what you can do is turn off the light make it completley dark in the room. And put your hand in front of the screen. Then you can see the contrast in the blacks. Your hand will be completley dark while the screen will be cinda blueish...

  • Old iPhone!! xD

  • i have like one of the first led backlit displays that came out and it is still pretty thin

  • Wow... your country's power plugs look like FACES.

  • @stocker05 Are you making fun of our power outlets?

  • @Joseph9536 Yes, : -

  • well it depends on the LED technology

i have a chunck based LED lcd so its pretty thick (even thicker than my ccfl monitor) and it sucks more power

  • im sorry he is saying cathode and its bothering me lol. It's CCFL aka flourecent lights just like tube lights not cathode tubes.

  • I just returned my LED backlit display because I felt the colors did not have any warmth and was a harsh contrast and terrible, blotchy blacks. Now I am using a CCFL based IPS NEC 24". Best decision I made for my gaming rig.

  • One main problem with LED screens is that the response time is slower than a good LCD. My Samsung Syncmaster has a 2ms response time and I've only managed to find a 5ms LED monitor. The contrast ratio can only stand out until a certain point as well.

  • You can get 2 ms leds ive seen 1 ms just not 120 hz

  • i have a normal one and a led one.

  • why compare with iphone?

    i dont have an iphone

  • The colors on the LCD display looks more vibrant than on the LED

  • Linus said so!

  • O: I HAVE THAT 3D MARK PROGRAM xD

  • My Viewsonic LED monitor is great but has some excessive light bleeding at the edges. I recently picked up a Samsung D8000 LED TV that had the same problem making it difficult to watch dark scenes in movies. I find my new plasma gives a better uniform picture but unfortunately i dont use my pc on it alot as i have to wheel it across the house...

  • @LS1NV thats only if its edge lit led but the back lit LED are good.

  • Turn the lights off and the regular lcd will win!

The problem with a lot of LED's is backlight bleeding especially with dark images or motion.

Same applies to the big LED tv's, I won't buy one cause it's so noticeable and spoils the movie.

Check out Samsung 55inch LED at a store, Ask them to dim the lights or better still turn them off then see if you still want to buy the tv!

  • @LS1NV Yea my 30" LED-lcd Samsung monitor doesn't have that problem....at all.

  • So it's easier to recognize who's the black people and who's the white people in any LED Backlit display :>

  • none of this would matter when OLED is the new standard

  • Off topic! I was distracted from the LED monitors by the cute guy. Anyone else think he's cute?

  • Well, the whites are more accurate on CCFL LCD rather than on LED LCD. And all of that doesn't matter because they are both rubbish when compared to VA or IPS panels. So I'd say don't buy LED LCD, go buy one with VA panel.

  • To be honest, the cheaper LED backlit monitors are poorer than the CCFL backlit ones with respect to color reproduction and the accuracies of black and white. I'd stick to the traditional LCD display unless we're talking about the expensive LED backlit ones which have great accuracies.

  • I have that power meter

  • I don't buy the color argument, sure contrast fair enough, but for color you are not comparing apples to apples, they are different monitors beyond the backlight technology, unless you both calibrated them, which you didn't

another advantage of LCD is time to full brightness, which is non existent unlike CCF driven displays

  • the LED white looks yellow...

  • you consider yourself professional but call a lcd a "regular" screen. Not only that but high quality modern LCD screens have equally good quality as led

  • I'm picking up the LED monitor this weekend for 149.99. 30 day return policy

  • @cliffst3rz hey can i ask why gone foe acer not fpr lg or samsung?

  • NCIS Tactics *thumbs*

  • I'm watching this video on a CRT Monitor and I don't see any difference between the two types of monitors at all. :)

  • @yggels I'm watching it on my PVA LCD and I do see a difference ;)

  • I have a monitor from 1999, and it has a huge backside, how do I tell if its led or not?

  • @FaggonDraggon lift it's skirt

  • @gto6412 lololol

  • Linus- what are good suggestions for monitors LED backlit or not that I can use for an eyefinity setup? I currently have 2 23" monitors but they are not the same and my desk wont fit another 23". Im thinking of getting slightly smaller size monitors.

    Help would be great!

  • @tlxxxsracer you should stick with those 23" monitors and get a new desk, don't put them to waste!

  • Presets on my Acer P223W make the colors epic.

  • I need help. I'm buying a monitor that support 1080p and hdmi. I also have a gtx 560 and it support a mini hdmi and 2 dvi ports.

If I plug the monitor to the gpu with through dvi, will I get the same quality as using an HDMI? also what does this guy uses for this comparison video??

    Thx!

  • @specterseal999 dvi is practicly hdmi with no audio and less fancy

  • your windows 7 needs activation. lol.

  • LED FTW

  • So.. LCD Rules or LCD-LED Rules?

  • So.. i'm think to get a new tv without 3d, i current have a lcd lg 32 inch tv, should i get a 42 or 37 ich led tv or a regular lcd tv cheaper and with more inches ?

    Can someone help me?

    Thanks!

  • why is saving earth so expensive?

  • @superclaw900 You do not need to save the earth... Humanity will destroy itself before it can destroy the earth ;)

  • @MG2R

They have been saying that since the begining of human kind. Yet we are still here...

If it does happen. It will not be in our time, or our childrens time, or our grandchildrens time. Infact I believe my great great great great great great great great great great grandchilds generation will still be going on about the same end of the world crap that we are...

  • @MrDeano324 Of course we are still here... I just meant that, if we did nothing to preserve the environment we are in right now (and then I mean, still have an industrial climate like in 1930-1960) we would make ourself extinct before we'd destroy the earth.

I just wanted to point out that the -overused- sentence "save the planet" is a big load of crap ;)

  • @superclaw900 just buy nothing... its cheap and you'll save the earth just a little bit :)

  • @superclaw900 your not saving earth... its just the greatest money making scheme

  • i was gonna say, the LED looks worse...glad im not alone.

  • @gto6412 You may not be alone but you do need a vision check! The LED looks more detailed and more accurated.

  • led looks worse

  • Not thin enough until turning it sideways causes it to vanish from sight.

  • I have that Acer LED Monitor, great monitor

  • omg i have that LED monitor XD

  • lcd monitors are actually not that thick. deep inside that large frame, there is a video processor, and also a power supply. which is how most lcds are able to use a simple 3 pin power cord. i prefer led but if you were to actually take apart an lcd, youd realize that alot of space is wasted.

  • LCD FTW

  • can i run mac?

  • @mrtallent86 What do you mean exactly?

  • @InspiredBloodMage buy a computer monitor and a capable video card. Pixel density is more important than you realize, however it also determines how far you are sitting from it. I tried playing on 37" 1080p T.V. and I was wholly disappointed. IF you are sitting normal T.V. distance away, then go ahead and buy the 32" solely gaming, but if you're planning on sitting desk close, I would reconsider. A higher resolution 27" or 24" 1080p would be ample. Get 16:9 and if I can find a sale I'll get a 27

  • Is it not the case that if all components are equal, with the exception of the back-light there would be no picture quality difference. What is possible is that the advances in the diffuser, layers etc are updated along with the use of L.E.D. to distinguish them from C.C.F.L. back-lit monitors. You can't attribute the quality of the display to one single unit.

  • LED!!!! :0

  • led is almost the price of lcd so fuck lcd

  • no..the general bulk you see behind the regular monitor isnt the cathodes..its actually a designated box for voltage regulation and external circuitry such as button functions..believe it or not the cathodes are fairly slim too..theyre actually integrated in the LCD panel..just an FYI

  • I personally prefer the contrast and picture of the regular screen.

You can clearly see that the edges of the LED-lcd sceen are slightly brighter because of the edge lighting technology (which makes it thin). Also I dont think you can properly judge color accurancy based on 3dmark06 since its not a natural source, you would be better off comparing pictures. The only real benefit to me on this led screen would be the power usage (also less heat produced).

  • Comment removed

  • @rogierkraan he is talking about a backlit led tv not an edge lit led tv which is what gives the slightly brighter image

  • what's better, LCD LED Backlit non-1080p, or 1080p non led backlit? I can't drop 260 bucks for the best of both worlds.

  • @DiVeronica Well resolution, in my opinion, is better than backlight. And if it's a high quality one, the non LED would probably be better.

  • @jpmac098 thanks for the answer. I ended up going with the HD which probably has higher res

  • @DiVeronica Depends.

Do you want colour depth or clarity? I'd go with non LED 1080.

  • @ThisIsAGreatName yeah that's what I ended up going with. i'm glad i made that decision because a lot of the low priced LED backlits out there seem highly suspect.

  • @DiVeronica

Oh now more than half of monitors are LED backlit. It's nothing to worry about. While LED backlit is better, it's still not worth a resolution loss.

  • @InspiredBloodMage Dont buy a plasma for gaming, the image burns itself in to the screen.!

  • Comment removed

  • lol, why do everyone compare everything to an iPhone... ffs

  • 0:43 very good timing

  • led color quality is horrible as hell

  • Does anyone else find the slight blue tint of an LED annoying?

  • @killerCharade led achieves white though blue as cathode does it though yellow

  • @killerCharade

I did at first but with a little tweaking you'll be able to get rid of most of it.

  • half way through this i was like oh shit that is my monitor!

  • Sony hx 820 or Sony hx 929?

  • Don't care about the TVs. What is the game that was being shown?

  • It's benchmarking software not a game.

  • @i4ittwasdis Oh OK. It looks great though, =)

  • cool

  • when u turned the led back-lit one sideways and u were talking about the size of the regular one when i went to look for the led back-lit i though it disappeared till i looked closer at it

  • 3d led ????

  • ...with LED you get a nice glossy edge around the screen...

  • grrr... why did i buy a normal LCD.... FML

  • The cathode monitor has speakers too which might possibly contribute to the thickness...

  • i use an LCD 18.5" tv and my laptop monitor for a dual monitor set up its pretty nice

  • great thanks.

  • i have a 15" samsung monitor from 1996, how do I know if it's LED?

  • @colouredbills Google the Model ar its watermark.

  • @colouredbills by the fact it's 15 years old... haha

  • @colouredbills its not

  • @colouredbills Because it's from 1996...

  • Comment removed

  • @colouredbills simple. its not lol

  • Comment removed

  • @colouredbills The technology wasnt there yet for the consumer market. IF and i mean IF, you could find one,.. you'd spend a months salary for it. So if you went broke for a month back in 1996 breaking into Sony headquarters in Japan then I suppose its possible. :)

  • @JesusLikesPork Lol good comment. It was a joke though LOL

  • @colouredbills prob, aint

  • @colouredbills Its Not

  • @colouredbills You'll have to research the part number. LOL.

  • @colouredbills Its not. And I'd say its not a funny comment.

  • @colouredbills that would be a crt

  • @colouredbills its from 1996.

  • @colouredbills Is it thin?

  • @IAmSomeoneOrOther It's like a cube

  • @colouredbills It is likely a CRT monitor, so it isn't an LED one. If you do want a LCD monitor with a LED Back-lit display I'd recommend the Acer S211HLbd 21.5'' for $120 on NewEgg.

  • @IAmSomeoneOrOther R U SERIOUS, he was trolling OMG LOL

  • @colouredbills If your monitor requires two or more ppl to move it, then its not LED.. loll

  • I hate how the iphone has become a standard. I hope in the future we don't have to measure things like screen size in iphones aswell like my screen is 4.8 iphones.

  • at the end the led white looks yellow and shitty the lcd looks nice and white so im not sure what ur talking about whiter whites on the led. and when u start to turn the monitor sideways the led fades out and get shitty. and ive seen these things in bestbuy the led has nasty glare effect also you forgot to mention

  • @Jammin6796 The glare could be coming from a model that has a glossy screen, which is not all that uncommon. The "yellow" hue to the whites most likely comes from bad calibration. (play around with the settings at bestbuy) a lot of times the people there are morons and they mess with the settings to "their" liking. Bestbuy isn't exactly known to hire tech oriented individuals ya' know.

  • se ti metti una camicia bianca cazzo!!!!posso vedere lo spessore

  • which is the monitor at the right, please reply asap

  • @acogscopepwn It says in the video, believe it or not...

    It's the Acer V233H AJBD 23".

  • 16 people are still using CRT.

  • Comment removed

  • @bewts420

    I still use CRT :)

  • i want your job! where do i apply!!? i am a math major :)

  • @alwayzAngry but can you calculate stuff in 'about iphone thicknesses'?

  • from what i can tell from the video, the regular LCD display actually looks better to me. on the black/white desktop, the white looks slightly green on the LED display.

  • LCD seems washed out, but if you look too close into the center an LED back lit, the corners are out of contrast.

  • I'm excited about my backlit LED for my brand new rig :D

What's good about the LED is that the colors are more "realistic" instead of "brighter" which is something I definitely like, since I'm not a big fan of "brightness" ESPECIALLY when playing games that have a lot of darkness and night situations. In those terms, having backlight will give a more "real" feel, if that's something you're willing to pay for. Mine was 189 bucks on newegg. Asus FTW! (and it comes with built in speakers)

  • We're watching LCD vs LED on a LCD monitor, almost no difference at all

  • The LED Display is truly awesome for watching movies but the Matte Display is better for Graphic Design and Video Editing since you're going to work alot with color.

  • note everybody has an iPhone :D

  • ahh gud thing ibought the led ones!

  • honestgadgetreviews

  • Kinda hard to tell the difference when you're watching on an LCD monitor ;D

  • EVGA has better customer service/support and also has limited lifetime warranty plus 5year and other variations. not to mention quality product in my experience with gtx cards.

  • I like the regular more!

  • i probably wouldnt see a differance irl anyway as long as its playable im ok with it

  • personally i really dont care

  • What about response time ?

  • i thought the right one was the LED too lol

  • actually I wouldnt mind my wooden ship have 20+ layers of varnish... the first big diff I see is when you pause it at 0.19 when the soldier is behind the boxes, the whites and yellow stick out more ...hmmmm led

  • really not impressed

  • I don't like the way cables in at the back, I like it facing down just like my P223W.

at "white vs black" comparison, the white looks better at the regular display, at LED, look bit blue. And I prefer wood with 25 layers of varnish over it. So any of you have used S231HL so far? please write review. many thanks

  • I'm having that S231HL to replace my broke P223W (as a replace unit warranty) . I used this for my graphic & DI work, so the color will be important for me.

I've search all information about this S231HL. the only con I've read is bluish tinge, Some say you cannot fix it. Some say can if you use win 7 color calibration tool. is that correct?

  • Finally have S231HL at top of my desk.

    This awesome shit totally huge!

I figure the bluish tinge shows if you move angle the way you look at the screen. The white is perfect to me. Cables route also fine for me.

VERY DISAPPOINTED to ACER Jakarta, they took the HDMI cables. Now I'm gonna test it for 48 hours on

  • still i can tell the difference

  • @KatiushaVN4 then you need a new monitor because it is oh so obvious on mine theres a huge difference in the colors

  • @KatiushaVN4

Yup, can totally see the difference. My ASUS 27" LED is far superior to my ASUS 23.6 LCD. Looks 10 times better in person.

  • Thanks for this! :)

  • they look to green to me lol. ok here is the problem with LED monitors, you cant replace the LED back light lol. if they do go out you must replace the hole monitor.

not to mention ive personally looked at LED monitors and they are not sharper than an lcd, they actually look blurrier. not to mention that in this vid that LED monitor did not look any brighter that the other. now as power consumption goes, 40w vs 31 you are not gona see a huge difference in your bill.

  • @clamo636 i own an led monitor and a non led back lit monitor and i use them side by side and the led is brighter and did you know that led lights last up to 50 years? longer than the monitor itself would ever last. also it is way sharper. im not saying this to be a jerk im just saying that i own both and use both side by side and trust me there is a difference.

  • @Cov3t4bl3 well ive been hearing all kinds of thing about led back lit lcd's but because of the price for 1 ive got no choice but to not buy one. i think its retarded that they don't take in to consideration the state of our economics and find a way to keep the price lower. my current lcd witch is a 24" and paid almost $600 for. its no longer under warranty, so i ordered me another 24" as a back up in case this one goes out. it has already been sent in for a repair 1 time.

  • @clamo636 i totally agree but i got a vizio 22" led razor for 350$ and i love it.
