That game that they were on ESPN2 against Beloit College, who won that game? Oh yea Beloit. The system works but only if all the players are on that night. If shooting is somewhat cold there is no chance. There is no defense in that system. Grinnell may score more than any team but they also give up more points than any team. Also if this is such a good system how come more schools are not using it. It is only getting featured nationally because it is different, it doesn't mean the system works.
@chernikr with all due respect, its hard to argue that a team averaging 29 steals per game for a full season is not playing defense!
Saying they give up more points than any other team is also somewhat pointless, of course they give up a lot of points, they are playing at a much higher pace than "traditional" teams. Its all relative!
for ur little 8th grade team. This team hasnt won its conference in years and gets crap for running it by many people. This is a shit style of play. Similar to pshing all in in poker no matter what cards your dealt. You might win occasionally, but chances are u will lose. Bobby Long is the only good player to come from Grinnel.
this is just subbing people every 35 seconds. you get the players at their full potential because of the rest. all these players need to do is score the 3, and get down on d and get the turnover. score mainly 3's, you dont see any highlights of them going down low.
so, when were u diagnosed with down syndrom? It doesnt even work at the D3 level. IK. Ive seen 6-8 of these games in person. Ive only seen them win 2 out of those 8. They havent won in their conference, and they havent gone to the tourney in quite a while. The fact that ppl find this appealing disgusts me.
"CraEggD320" has seen 6...or 8 and he says they only won 2 of those 8....or, ya know, 6.
Wow, thanks for settling that one, smart-guy.
Meanwhile, in the real world, Grinnell is the only D3 program to have a B-ball game on national TV, has been featured on ESPN, USA Today, and Sports Illustrated (to name a few), and has set TWENTY-SEVEN NCAA records. All this from a program that had 25 losing seasons (in large part b/c of the high academic standards) prior to the implication of this system.
You cant be any more wrong. Academics? Lawrence, called the Yale of the Midwest won the Conference 3 times while my brother played there(Player of the Year 2 times in a row). So obviously academics is just a lame excuse. They get nation wide recognition bc they are the ONLY, get that ?? THE ONLY college to play this RETARDED style. Dont lecture about shit u have no knowledge of. Ive watched more D3 ball than you have D1 over the past 5 years.
This implication of this system is used to make a bad coach look decent, and bad college players(99% of there players) look average. Dont act like you know what you are talking about because you either dont know shit or your some Grinnell fan who backs up his shit basketball program.
"Don't act like you know what you are talking about" You mean other than the verifiable FACTS (like TWENTY-SEVEN NCAA basketball records, nationally broadcast game on ESPN ect.) I posted? Do they not live up to the standard of your opinion-barfing?
"this system is used to make a bad coach look decent, and bad college players(99% of there players) look average." So...a system that makes both coaches AND players BETTER is bad?
@CraEggD320 "this system is used to make a bad coach look decent&bad players look average" Wow, a system that IMPROVES players & coaches. Boy, that sounds AWFUL..Great point, smart-guy.
"Don't act like you know what you are talking about" Which part? The only D3 program to be on national TV? Being featured in Sports Illustrated & ESPN? TWENTY SEVEN NCAA RECORDS?
I guess ESPN, SI, and national recognition, doesn't even BEGIN to contend with your 'opinion' formed from the 6....or 8 games you saw!
"CraEggD320" has seen 6.....or maybe 8, and they only won 2 of those 8....or, was it 6....
Thanks for that 'expert' analysis smart-guy; however in the real world Grinnell is the only D3 Bball team to be nationally televised, has been featured in ESPN, USA Today, and Sports Illustrated (to name a few), AND is the holder of TWENTY SEVEN NCAA records. All this from a team that had 25 strait losing seasons(in large part, due to its high academic standards) prior to the installation of this system.
yeah monmouth sucks. but grinnell is awesome. they get beat a lot if the other team is good on offense cuz grinnells defense isnt that great. they fluster teams with their awesome full court press tho. we have John Grotberg who leads the NCAA in scoring (32 pts a game i think??) and Bobby Long (29 pts a game)
You know, this crap is fun to watch: but it doesn't win more games than any other team. If you've heard of Loyola Marymount, then you know they were an impressive team back in the early 90s under Paul Westhead. They beat Michigan 149-115 one game, but lost to eventual champs UNLV 131-101 I think. If you're a better team you win, if not you lose. That's how it goes. No "system" will change it.
With that having been said, this shit is awesome.
but what you need to understand is the system is designed to hit 3's after 3's. and on the flip side theres gonna be 2 on 1 baskets scored on them all game. they average 109.7 ppg. you dont see them winning games 120 to 43, theyre all like 120 - 109, 118 - 114. the system is designed so that they will be hitting 3 pointers to the opponents 2 pointers.
in one game i forget who it was they played, the other team missed 1 shot in the half and they were still down by 7 because the system they use relies on 3 point shooting. that team went on to set an ncaa record and shot 94% and still lost..
do you get my point? im not tryin to be rude im just a huge fan of the system they use.
I personally like it. But only because it's entertaining. If you encounter a team that can shoot the lights out as well, or also runs the system, then you're done. So ultimately it comes down to the better team.
When Grinnell wins the ncaa champ., I will admit you are right.
well yeah they lose games too, theyre not the best team at all. this sytem just lets teams like them come in and steal games from better teams. grennil plays 5 on 5 off and they pressure the whole game. most teams play like 7 or 8 players, so throwing 5 fresh players on them every minute is gonna kill them. they run teams to the ground and that combined with good shooting lets them steal games from better teams. i just dont htink ppl should dismiss it so fast
thaqt coach is from around here so my college coach spent a weekend with him adopting that system and were doing it this year. hopefully it works haha
and if that team had h. gathers against unlv....the outcome may have been different....special teams come along once every 5-10 years in the D1 and make a run....gonzaga, kent state, george mason, davidson....person for person they are not better than the big boys....but they play well as 5 on the floor and have even bench play to hang with anyone
I agree. Hank Gathers was a special player. George Mason and Davidson are definitely special teams. Gonzaga is a unique program. Don't know much about Kent State.
They played UNLV earlier in the year, with hank. It was remarkably close.
kent went to the elite 8 in 01' with a solid team...no one who even smelled the nba....but the team produced an nfl pro bowl tight end....gates was a beast
and they get kids from all over the place that aren't douches.....chicago, los angeles, detroit, memphis etc....i dont think there's an ohio kid on the roster...
no one gets in trouble at kent amazingly...i live here...during the season 1/2 the team comes into my dad's bar and they eat wings and drink coke...ive worked in memphis and yeah, it's douchey there
kent's been a coach factory....waters went to rutgers and is now cleveland state....heath bolted after 1 year to arkansas and that didnt go so well christain stayed a long time they always hire from within and it works they went into duke a couple years ago and it went down to the last possesion
he was...he could have bolted a long time ago. there was an sec team interested in him a couple years ago... heath never even had a recruiting class christain was the one recruiting that year and gates/huffman/edwards were all waters guys....
yo grotberg, ive been checking out the stats, u are not hat great of a shooter u just shoot A LOT. pass the ball to bobby long... Oh yea put up another video of your team this offense is sick, it's a shooters dream
grotberg is awesome. he does shoot alot tho. thats the reason he doesnt look like a great shooter.sometimes he takes bad shots like he'll walk the ball up the floor and then just shoot a 3, but hes still an awesome shooter
I go to Kansas University and I'm just a fan of the system. I've been following the team this year and I think they are about to make a run. Lets see some big numbers.
Man I hate it when my team scores 125 pts and still loses.

no youre wrong. it does win games. they average 109 ppg, 21 turnovers a game, and have numerous NCAA records for 3pt % and fg %.

Why are national championships not hanging up in Grinnell's gym?
Like I said, if you play a better team, you're gonna lose. Good teams can counter the full court press. It leads to easy layups.
