Like I have said before, those morons who insist on mentioning race and color when referring to Teena Marie are uneducated and must have a lot of free time on their hands. @lisaraye212 I don't think it has anything to do with race. I mean many of us saw his death coming. The man was in a lot of pain and turned to drugs. @IvoryRoseify Well, said. I don't like racist people. They cause hate and confusion in this world. I think they should just all go live on an island together. The world is full of interesting people. @UrlsGrrl54 Because people are making it seem as if she didn't like being white and tried to be black. You've probably seen black people call other black people oreos. Well, it's the same thing. When a black person doesn't act the way they are "supposed to", black people trip. If a white person doesn't act the way they are "supposed to", everybody trips!
I love you Teena and I will always miss you. I grew up listening to Teena Marie. Every song , CD album whatever she sang i always liked. Whenever i heard she had a new CD out I would just go and buy it because I knew I would like it. I didn t need to hear a couple of songs I just knew i would like it. That says a lot. Always will remember Lady T. God bless her daughter as well.
If one was color blind but had a musical taste in soul music, The Music Teena Marie would be within the BEST of their music collection. Condolence to The family and millions color blind soul music fans of Lady T, the lady who gave us songs that will live forever like......... @321globaldotcom Ooohh... you named some of my favorites. Well, just about all of her songs were favorites. Mr. Gaye is nice I was listening to it this morning when I was going to work. I loved the fact that she sang Jazz music as well as played the guitar. Such a wonderful talent. God bless her and her daughter as she tries to make sense of all of this.
@dusttracks. Ya misunderstood my comment. How many other white women in the hip hop rand b world that was as successful and embraced like no other than the teena Marie. I said, it was nice to see one of my own, a white woman, accepted and taken seriously in the r and b audiences. You have bobby caldwell, robyn thick, other white male artist, but how often have you heard a white woman break barriers like Teena Marie?
@xshortcake079x Teena was damn good and you're correct. She was one of a kind..very very special. I'm a 40yr old black male and I remember quite well doing my best roller disco stunts as a kid at the indoor skate rink in brooklyn, jamming to Teena's " Behind the Groove". Her vocal range and soulful ballets is a true testament to the statement, "God given talent".
@xshortcake079x Not often, hun. She was truly an individual in her game. I am happy that she loved soul music, because she was a gift to us all. She is one of the greats and she is missed. May her light shine on in heaven.
May you RIP and may GOD watch over your family and give them peace. I've always loved your music, especially "If I Were A Bell". Gone but not forgotten.
what i loved about her was that she didnt try and act "black", yet her music was most identified with black audiences, her records were played almost exculsively on black radio...
She never REALLY got her fucking props from the Awards and Entertainment Industry from the African American Elite in the buisness; she should have had several grammies and other awards by now. Oh but NOW they'll do what they SHOULD'VE done all along! Only AFTER the great ones DIE do they honor them like they SHOULD HAVE. FUCKERS...It's like reverse racism. I will Miss You Lady Tee NO ONE will EVER be able to match that unbelievable voice of yours. R.I.P. (sigh)
@atlasshrugged2u Awww... you are right. I don't think that she was given all that she should have gotten either. And now that she is gone, the industry will make a big deal about her success. But, we the fans know that she was one of the greatest and always will be. Their is a saying that you should give a person their roses while they can still smell them. I wish she could've gotten her roses, more awards and all she deserved, WHILE she was alive : - ( So, I feel you and I agree.
@Atasham72 Hey fellow fan, thank You! Only "Unsung" on T.V.1 did this BEFORE she died and I am so glad they did :)
They did alot of stories on the greats that didn't achieve "crossover" appeal so I will always be thankful to them! But I will miss her; it felt like someone in my family passed away when Lady T died; that's how wierd it was?...
Teena my beloved. I will miss you so. You will always be my QUEEN! Fly my ANGEL, fly. Thank you for the gift of your music, talent and love. I love you, forever and a day. KISSEs to heaven sent to you. I love you...
@MrOnitproductions Aww that was a beautiful tribute to our sister who gave us so much joy. Maybe she'll come back as a "white giselle" remember the lyrics to "Deja Vu" (Iv'e been here before) Miss You Lady T (sigh)
R.I.P. LADY SOUL!!Your music wether your were orange or green was an inspiration to all, male and female!!Color shouldn't be the issue, it's her voice.
RIP dear Teena, I danced to your music in the streets and in the clubs of New York City during my youth. When I joined the US Navy in 1980, you were still rocking my soul on cassettes in Beirut Lebanon, Southeast and Southwest Asia, Central America, and all over Europe. I have CD's I burned for my rides that your music is still on today! I love you, thanks for rockin my soul. Thanks for changing the world.
Teena Marie was so great because you felt her in her music. She just so happens to be a white woman that sang R&B the way she felt it and it worked. RIP my beautifyl sister.
@Kyracub yes it does matter. when sumone posts a comment saying she sounds blk, thats a lie that needs to be corrected. n pls dont ever try singing again.
@DizShaWTYcrUNK Bitch Its Called An Opinion So Yhurr Dumb Ass Need Ta Deal With It And Bitch I Can Sing At least I Got Sumthing Going 4 Me And Wat Are Yhuu Doing?Nothing Yhuu Cant Even Spell Please Hoe Yhuu Bout Immature As Shyt All I Did Was Leave A Lil Ass Reply And Yhuu Gone Getta Attitude Bytch Getta Life!
dont hate on the truth no white girl ever sounded black except teena even her mom said so just give us credit for rocking the music industry and yes when teena ist came out all of us blacks thought she was one of us and when we found out she wasnt black we didnt care she was one of us and we luVD her voice whether blck or white!!!!
Ive waited all day to post this, because I wanted to get myself together enuf to briefly explain what this woman means to me. I didn't cry when I got news of MJ dying, because most of us saw it coming long before it happened, but when I saw on CNN that Lady T died, I have to say that, my knees buckled, and I had to sit down to take it in. I had to go to work, after I got the news and I havent cried yet, but tonite Im going to listen to "Tune In Tomorrow", and cry myself to sleep...Im devastated
i truly believe that Lady T could cook some soul food....i know that she can could Buff's collards greens, yams, cornbread, etc. etc. She did indeed have soul
@flukes777 No baby Lady Tee our Lady Tee, she was black as they come believe that. Miss thang been putting down probably before you were born. She even rapped her butt off. Believe dat. She was amazing. I hope you know who Rick James is? Lol! That's why Rick James said, "I'm Rick James Biatch." Rick and Lady ain't nothing but the best soul since the 70's. But they doing it together in heaven now. Your post was funny and I just had to comment.
She sang with such emotional conviction. There will never be another Ms Lady Tee. May her voice live on forever. Another legendary artist is gone forever.
Introspective, shy, and a ground-breaker. A huge heart and bottomless soul. There will never be another Teena. God has blessed you and will continue to. Always in my heart. xx
Oh man! I remember Teena back inthe 80's she that strong voice with the rocker/funk and soul melody, then she stud up to Motown(cutthroat) and won! She somewhat changed the industry that a lot of artists should be thankful for.
Back in 79 in New Orleans every household,Projects,ect..had that "Irons In The Fire"Album when I saw her picture for the first time her being White wasn`t even a Topic with me nor the Black Community because then I never new color mattered but years later her color still doesn`t matter,if it wasn`t for this Lady i wouldn`t love music as much as I do today, her Mucis basically raised me,Love Teena Marie so much!thanks for sharing you gift with me!
@DaBlackAnastasia504 I can remember dancing to her music at the hopping club in the Hyatt near the dome back in the early to mid 80's. What was the name of that club? Do you remember the one I am talking about? There was a restaurant next door to it that was part of the club also.
Teena was black listed for standing up against Motown and won which the end result was a law enacted in the US Congress entitled The Brockert Initiative. Every artist in the business should be thanking her or else every producer would be like Jamie Foxx's character in Dreamgirls.
@merciless41582 She's talented. I don't think her being an English Major makes her a fraud. Teena is the business. Look up The Brockert Initiative and see for yourself. Ever artist recording today owes Teena for getting that law enacted in congress.
Tina was thought to be black due to her type of music pure and simple. She is not of course so therefore bringing a white dish to the table was a new milestone for female artists. She is a great singer and noone can take that away from her. Afterall she just Wants To Be Your Lovergirl. Great tune there Tina
@MsSkhill people thought she was black because her music had a disco/funk feel to it...if you remember back in 79-80 most black artists performed this type of music--
Teena knows of what she speaks. She herself was 'taken' in the business. That was a nice piece of info she shared that 'it only costs $150 to start YOUR OWN publishing company!' That is CHEAP! Everybody writing songs should do that!
When i first heard Tina Marie i first thought what a great song and voice she had , not if she were black or white , soon after i saw the video and noticed how beautiful she was and could play an instrument . Music is a gift for the universe an where it comes from , what race , what gender shouldn,t matter > Good music is good music .
Tina it is 2009 and we are going into 2010 baby u r still the bo''m''b. OH I WISH U WOULD SING A GOSPEL SONG JESUS BROUGHT U A LONG WAY. U STILL LOOK GOOD AND U CAN TEACH THE NEW ARTIST TO SING. LIKE KIM ON ALANTA HOUSE WIFE. I LOVE U TINA
You are very disrespectful to women, period. This is not the place for that perverse and filthy talk and language! I will pray for you, in Jesus name. Whew!
What Black sounds like? Cause Tina Marie, is Tina marie, She's sounds like she sounds...I don't see her style or flow copied off any black artist...if anything, Black Singers Respect the shit out of her and try to immulate her style and flow. She's tina marie. She just swinged it to a whole diffrent level...Very dffrent. I would say that Stephny Mills would giver her a run for her Money, But not even her would stand a chance...with this WHITE FEMALE!! jaja
@BoriquaRikan1227 You're disgusting- using TEEna (such a big fan u can't even spell her name right) to spout your pathetic racism.Teena would despise someone like you calling her name in vain..she wouldn't want a fan like you. However she sounded she was famous for making BLACK music, making any nasty comments u make complete and utter stupid nonsense. How can u be a fan of hers and at the same time be so disrespectful to the culture and artists she adored. U are so f'd-up in the head it's unreal.
@cresceremuoventesi bitch you can't spell, look at you tryin to use a few little words tryn to sound like u have sun kind of intelect jajajja Fuken Greasy Ass Chicken Eat Pig!!! Clam tha fuk down you Pig as Bitch before i put you like old worn out shoe you hog Ass Pig!!! you just mad bitch, Cause Teena/Tina which ever way you wanted me to spell you simple ass uneducated Asswipe...jajaja' Yea' come back with sum whack shit u NUT ASS PIG!!! goahead!! try me, Mop tha fuk outta ya' BORIKUA STYLE! OK
@BoriquaRikan1227 Look at my reply and then look at yours. I'm not trying to sound like I have intellect, I have intellect, whereas you're just an illiterate, racist redneck - that's why you're so angry. You're so happy to have YouTube aren't you? Gives you the illusion of having power. Your reply is just meaningless cuss words...none of it has any value, it makes no sense. I wonder if you'll even understand this post...oh well, have a good day now!
teena to me gets hate cause she sings more soulful then millions of rnb artists..her being white seems to be an issue with people. its so sad to me..look how long her career has gone for and she still banging!! she is a real artist in my eyes, dont care about the sales or awards..she gets my respect then so many other singers.
wow how old is she? she looks great! and yeah she telling the truth always remember its a bussiness because it seem like some of the good artiest make great songs and then get dropped and its kinda like what!!! but wow i like how she looks so young how old is she like 45?
Why can't we all just appreciate a talented individual who has survived for years in this messed up industry and still has fans to support her and go to concerts and buy albums. Lady T, I have been a fan since the beginning. Thank You for putting your soul into music that some of us really enjoy.
Despite the negativity that's thrown at white women in hip hop or r&b songs, Lady T seems to have always gotten the respect she deserves from her fans. Although she seems to be underestimated in the mainstream, on BET, MTV, etc.
@nevawrong what negativity is thrown at white women in hip hop? Are ya kidding me? Listen to Kayne Whacks "Golddigger" song, Common's "my people" song, little wayne's rap about wanting white women to eat rat poison, the stereotypes in that whack song "gimme that becky". Much of the garbage today is nothing but stereotypes thrown at WW. Listen a lil more then get back at me.... I always had love for Teena marie breaking racial barriers and gaining respect in the community, like MJ did.
@xshortcake079x THERE ARE THOSE FEW BLACK PEOPLE WHO DO TALK LIKE THAT IN THEIR SONGS BUT JUST BECAUSE OF THOSE FEW IT DOESNT MEAN THAT ALL BLACK PEOPLE INSULT WHITE PEOPLE LIKE THAT!

You have bobby caldwell, robyn thick, other white male artist, but how often have you heard a white woman break barriers like Teena Marie?
xshortcake079x 1 year ago 2
@xshortcake079x Teena was damn good and you're correct. She was one of a kind..very very special. I'm a 40yr old black male and I remember quite well doing my best roller disco stunts as a kid at the indoor skate rink in brooklyn, jamming to Teena's " Behind the Groove". Her vocal range and soulful ballets is a true testament to the statement, "God given talent".
Skyjuice70 1 year ago
@xshortcake079x Not often, hun. She was truly an individual in her game. I am happy that she loved soul music, because she was a gift to us all. She is one of the greats and she is missed. May her light shine on in heaven.

R.I.P. (sigh)
atlasshrugged2u 1 year ago

Teena was black listed for standing up against Motown and won which the end result was a law enacted in the US Congress entitled The Brockert Initiative. Every artist in the business should be thanking her or else every producer would be like Jamie Foxx's character in Dreamgirls.

Tina was thought to be black due to her type of music pure and simple. She is not of course so therefore bringing a white dish to the table was a new milestone for female artists. She is a great singer and noone can take that away from her. Afterall she just Wants To Be Your Lovergirl. Great tune there Tina
MsSkhill 2 years ago
@MsSkhill people thought she was black because her music had a disco/funk feel to it...if you remember back in 79-80 most black artists performed this type of music--
