well in the vampire diaries you have to have vampire blood in your body when you die to become a vampire. Katharine probably gave stefan and damon blood after she fed on the (this is done in the books). It'll probably show in a later episode when damon and stefan died.(in the books they kill each other)

Sex has always been around and there were the "younger generation" that pushed the bounds of society. Just like today. When I was in Sr. Hi it was SHOCKING to see or even know a girl that was going to have a baby. Now it is more common place, if not totally excepted.
