Nope, 'cause the oxygen will be replaced with carbon dioxide, and because nothing can and will leave the balloon as it is air closed it will not shrink. Simple physics. Excuse my English for it is not my first language.

@Kopsu87 no, the baloon shouldn't have big volume changes because the oxigen doesn't disappears, it combines with Carbon resulting CO2.

@ViktorTolmachev That was an ember of the flash paper that hadn't burned entirely due to the flash paper being tied too tightly at that point. The tight thread knot kept the flash paper inside of it from burning effectively. I explain it in the "science" video which is offered as a link at the end of the video. Cheers.

see what a few oz of gas left to evaporate would do once set off. Not sure if the pressure inside the ballon would keep it in a liquid state, but I dont think a ballon holds that much pressure. Interesting thought. I would do it if I had a laser.

@parangaah I thought of that too but then I realized that the fire doesn't actually "use up" the air. It just converts the oxygen in the air to carbon dioxide and water. There's still the same amount of material inside the balloon before and after the fire occurs. In fact, since resulting gases are less dense than oxygen, I would expect the balloon to expand. (Not to mention the fact that the increase in temperature will cause it to expand even more.)

@mindroverjpc those resulting gases are NOT less dense; the balloon is visibly expanding (higher pressure inside). well you're saying it expands, but it's higher pressure not lower pressure. lower pressure causes compression.
