These guys review cars without doing their homework. Watched other vids and it's the same thing. "tdi stands for turbo diesel" when your driving it stands for total dork inside.
I see VW's TDi models with the Jetta and Passat as alternatives to Hybrids. Only drawback with Diesel costing more than premium fuel, a lot of people would be dismissive to that, but shouldn't be. 30 city/ 42 highway should awaken some. It's also VW's clean diesel. Can you use any type of diesel (especially biodiesel) in the Jetta and Passat?
Hey guys u forgot to mention 40 mpg avg vs a Camry Accord Mazda of 22 avg .80 cents a gal more 4 fuel is minimal. Your review was not accurate and bias Jetta 50 mpg hwy TDI 700 + mile range on 16 gal vs the 18 gal fill up on the Japan cars. 05/06 MB E320 CDI 4k lbs 37 mpg hwy.
Also my friends 2012 ford f350 6.8 Diesel gets 20 mpg hwy that's an 11K pound truck. I had a 1998 E300 TD and I averaged 30 mpg city and 34+ hwy at 80 mpg with power to spare. It was rear ended and totaled by insurance.
@gab13005 Well, if you want to get technical, we could call it "Turbocharged Dieseleinspritzung" - but calling it a turbo-diesel is the fast, lazy way that means the exact same thing. Thanks for watching!
Everything is great except it's not RWD and the engine is placed transversely. Too bad. I guess not every car is perfect. I'm still a big fan of the Passat.
Dipends where you live in souther europe diesel is 3/4 price of gasolene. They forgot to say it has 140HP but with that much torque out of a 4 cylynder diesel is impressive
Awesome review. Very dramatic cinematography and effects. I'm not sure the diesel thing is the way forward simply because of the price difference. It gets to a point where getting good mileage doesn't outweigh the fuel cost. But there probably isn't an economy-based gas car out there with that much torque, so that's a plus.
The whole greener aspect of it... is the mileage better enuf to justify spending more at the pump? I hated putting premium in my 96 Bonneville SSEi, even if it got 80mpg. Its like sticker shock. I just got can't fathom the extra cost for being green. I like my green to stay in my pocket. :)
Cannot see the point of a diesel car in the US, here in Europe the fuel is cheaper and they get about 20% better fuel economy
But studies here show given the higher initial cost of them, incuding more expensive servicing, you would have to drive around 60000/70000 kms, to make any real savings over a petrol/gas powered car. They are also prone to injector pump failure.
The only benefit perhaps is they are easier to sell second hand.
Though I prefer my 07' 2.0T over the loaded 2012 TDI I've test driven, you guys knocked this review out of the park. I love how TFLCar reviews are unbiased & fair...keep'em coming!
With those prices of diesel vs. gasoline, I can see, why european manufacturers like VW or BMW, who here in Europe sell the wast majority of their large cars almost with diesels engines, still need petrol engines for the US market. With the cost of diesel 30% above that of petro, a diesel engine doens´t pay off. Its as simple as that. Kind of a shame really, as the modern turbo-charged diesel engines would suit the relaxed US way of driving rather perfectly.
good one guys, could you please het your hands on the mercedes s 350 bluetec diesel, and also the bmw 335d I'm really curious about those too and I'm a diesel head
@BIGCHRIS7600 Oh yes, there were many in the U.S. I remember the Peugeot 504 & 505s, VW Rabbit Diesels, Oldsmobile Delta 88 diesels and Isuzu P’up among others. Thanks for watching!
SF, $3.89, 91,OCT. $3.99, DIESEL. Diesel USED to be cheaper than gas, REMEMBER?!! It doesn't take as much to refine diesel. The "Clean" diesel, is made with horse P.P. WHICH YOU HAVE TO CHANGE EVERY 10K MILES. NOT THE OIL CO. You cannot find gas cars in EUROPE. THEY ALL GO TO COLLAGE AFTER HIGH SCHOOL TOO. :/. You guys should try a 2012, S350, 4MATIC. I'M ORDERING ONE.. UNLESS THE 2013 IS BETTER..
@1rustyb I suggest the ISF, you won't be disappointed as the S350 is a 3.5 v6 0-60 about 7.6 while the lexus is a lot more cheaper and you get 5.0 V8 RWD 0-60 4.8 fully optioned. and if you wait for the 2013 you get extra for same price, but if you're looking for class check out the 2013 LS600HL. hope that helps mate
@onoff314 i know there aren't but i said if you want performance but less luxury get an lexus ifs but i would prefer luxury over performance get the s-class. however the IF does compete with C class, but id rather get the ISF because it is cheaper, faster and the 2013 is just plain luxury

"old technology"?
I don't think any new american car has the tech that vw already put in that passat.
You just ignore the facts in europe we know how to make cars!!!

@pbrinzei "Old Technology" refers to the fact that the diesel engine was invented in 1892 by Rudolf Diesel
