It will still work on soft poop. All you have to do is push into the poop and turn your wrist about a quarter turn. The screw heads hold it in place.

I got a grabs it up when it first came out and I love it! Best thing is that it gets into the divets of my lawn without pulling out the grass, and it only takes me a couple minutes to pick up after my 3 greyhounds. Seriously, check this thing out!
