I followed the directions in this video but made it in the bread-maker with whole wheat flour. I cut everything in half for one loaf. It was delicious, slightly sweet, and soft with a crunchy crust.
"I wish there were no screaming kids in the videos" That is funny. How about a different mindset, She doesn't have to make these videos, she could be spending time with those screaming kids, she could not care if anyone learns or not. So how about we all just be thankful for the time and effort it takes to record, edit, produce and upload these videos. Thank you for making these videos, as a single Father, I have learned a lot and my son is slowly learning himself, while he screams. :)
I think you should put out a cook book. The way you present your items on your site is really good. I wish there were no screaming kids in the videos, as we are trying to learn. If I were up there, I would babysit while your husband filmed. I hope that future videos are without the kids. It's really distracting and your message is important.
Okay...I decided to add more yeast, 1 tablespoon more, and it rose beautifully. I need to study the chemistry of bread making and why it takes more like that. I forgot the white vinegar tonight and it looked so beautiful! The crumb was so fine and elegant. It could be my oven, and I have not tested it for correct oven temps, but I need to let it go the complete 30 minutes. ???
This is the best bread dough that I have pulled off my fingers! You are a gem!!! I have it outside, rising. I make use of what is natural before I use what is electric, like my oven. I find mixing my yeast and rising my bread outside works. Well, it is Phoenix and I have to do this before I get the "baking temps" outside! LOL!!! I love ya' kid. I didn't have a daughter, but if I did, I would like her to have this ability to share with me.
My grandma's bread recipe is delicious but too dense for anything other than toast. Therefore I went on the hunt for a "fluffier" bread and found your video. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE it! Thank you very much. This recipe is being passed to my sisters!
@liliedaisy I am not the author of this recipe, but you might be letting the dough rise to long in the loaf pan, and the stickiness might be a factor, because it doesn't have enough structure. Maybe this will help. :)
I love this video and this bread recipe. I've made it several times and my family just loves it! I have a question for you though. I've noticed that my bread falls in the oven. Is there a way to prevent that? Am I doing something wrong? I follow the recipe exactly (including home ground fresh wheat flour) the only thing I notice is that the dough is pretty sticky when it finishes kneading in the kitchenaid right before the first rise. Could that have anything to do with it? Any tips?
I really like all your videos! I bought my first 100 lbs of wheat today, and I am gonna try this. I don't have a Mixer, can I just do all this by hand? Will it come out as good? I just want to learn how to do this without a mixer. God Bless you.
@savgal1211 you can do this by hand, but folks tend to underknead bread as a result. I recommend using an extended rise, overnight sponge method, or check out Artisan Bread in 5 here on YouTube.
Hey You! Just watched the Vikings beat our Cardinals, so what better way to feel better than to bake some bread? Yeah! I have been looking for a recipe that is "like" the store bought, but homemade. My mom was a baker and I just chowed down, I didn't learn anything, 'cept that butter on bread is better than margarine. So far, I tested the raw dough, and the taste is fantastic. I'll report back on how it turns out. You got a fourm?
Just a tip, for anything sticky be it corn syrup honey molasses etc. always spray your measuring cup with Pam or measure the oil in the recipe right before so it's slick and the sticky stuff will slide right out no problem =)
is that 1/2 cup of honey or 1 cup for the double recipe?? It looked like alot of honey. Also, are you using instatn yeast or dry active? AND...lol...sorry...you say non-instant powdered milk. I can't find non-instant..can I use instant?
OH MY GOSH, you have no idea how excited I am about this!! I have been following your stuff for a while now, and bought your book etc...(I love it by the way, ) and it worked!!! I make bread a lot, and this was by far, the easiest thing ever to make! I worked perfect the very first time! Its rising right now, and I'll let you know how it baked up. BUT WOW, thanks thanks thanks!
For whole wheat bread it calls for "whole wheat flour" right? If you don't mind could you list all the ingredients under the "more info" if you don't mind. I wrote down everything you said but i want to make sure I got it all. Thanks!
Excellent!

Oh! One more thing. This is the first time that I have used Bread Flour and I just love it more than AP Flour. It is totally worth it.

Could you do a video like this using all-purpose flour (or bread flour) instead of using whole wheat?

Could I use bagged whole wheat flour instead?

Have you tried the Gain mill attachment for your kitchenaid stand mixer? I want to know how well it works.
