I get that children need to learn how to clean up after themselves, but I do also believe there is such a thing as letting kids be kids. My mum didn't make me do everything on my own when I was a kid, but I did have a few chores, and I turned out very independent. I used to always keep my room "clean" by putting it all in the closet and like once a month my dad would sweep EVERYTHING into the middle of the floor in my room and tell me if it wasn't all put away and not just piled in my closet in an hour he would throw it all out.
