  • guys give jay z and his crew credit, they were smart enough to get tony royster into their tour. for musicians who love a good drive in the beat in hip hop they made a fantastic choice. tony royster forever haha

  • Why does everyone hate on Jay-Z?...he's one of the few talented rappers

  • always the least talented who take all the credit. "show me what you got shorty" vs. dada dada digadigadigadiga pooooosh!

  • Wish you could mute the guy shouting rubbish at the front of the stage

  • jay-z < Tony Royster jr.

  • AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • there was a solo in there?

  • Reminds me of Steely Dan's Aja. Nice drummer.

  • my nigga killin on the set boi tony thats wuz sup dogg keep doin ya thang

  • They need more screens in the back at 0:30

  • @thefroh1 no...they don't? ;)

  • Fuck jay z

  • @xXanimals1Xx fuck you

  • @calibred818 well thanks you very much

  • the crowd looks confused

  • This song contains at least five of the top 20 drum fills ever... TONY is a monster... And Props to Jigga being able to flow over them insane fills!

  • Ok, so where's the solo?

I've been listening to hip hop since the late '70's, and I still don't get the appeal of Jay Z.

I appreciate the effort put into the show, but it's just not my thing, I guess.

  • @jediwise people don't really understand what he's saying.. Either cos he speaks to fast or his metaphors are just complicated or hard to catch.. But he's got a MEAN flow.. See him live next time he's in your town.. He puts on the best show of any artist period I've seen live

  • the bass player was goin in too

  • It's the job of the WHOLE band to ensure a kick-ass gig. Jay-Z was tight as ever on this gig, The Drummer, Bassist, Hell even the DJ always make Jigga a great act to see. When I saw Jay-Z live he freestyled with no beat for 2 minuets, shortly after Tony Royster freestyled on the drums and even the guitarists gave an awesome freestyle.

  • @1:25

  • Oo oo me too...Ahem!!! I wish jay-z would shut the f*ck up!! He makes as if all those people in the audience bought jay-z tickets!!!...oh wait, i think i fuckd up there somewhere.

  • NISAN STEWART SUGGESTED TONY FOR THE GIG so Jay-Z 's Musical Director hired him. People who don't know who Tony is just knows him as "The drummer"

No matter WHO YOU ARE if you're HIRED to play for a artist it's YOUR JOB to make sure the artist's music SOUND and FEEL GOOD until they give you the freedom to play wild solo other than that you MUST be tastefully solid.

Again,The only person shining should be the artist anyway unless the artist gives the band freedom to express themselves.

  • WTF! brazilians are everywhere! wahahahah....

  • dont know why people bust on on Jay-Z. He was knowledgable enough to hire tony. He knows a good drummer. IMO this is a great gig for everyone involved.

  • Sick drummer + bassist. Who is that speaking on the mic?

  • Yes!

  • by 0:47, you could tell Royster was gonna go in. 1:12 - even the crowd starts to go wilder because of Royster

  • All u dumbazzez saying Jay needs 2 " shut up, u can't hear Tony " WTH??!! @ 1:11 when he says " check this boy out " he doesn't touch the mic again until 1:25, ur hearing the track vocalsduring that break, DUH!! & from 1:54-the end, is like it's supposed 2 be, "drum fills" over the breaks, not a " drum solo "..... Jay, was fine....T Royster, is killin'.....he's playing the hell out of this gig, very musical chops!! Not a bunch of mindless/distracting licks...!! 1:54-1:57, nice!

  • Jay Z shut the fuck up for a bit,.... let the boy snack the skins!!! New york Niggs dont want to let another nigg Shine!

  • jay-z should just shut up and let the musicians play cuz Royster and Russel are killin it!!

  • Does anybody else LOVE that bass line?? Mr. Russell, you got mad skillz. Oh, and Tony is insane...

  • hey!

  • Tony is a beast! Whats the song that starts to play at the end??????????????

  • Tony Russell is on bass....killin' of course!

  • who's playin bass?

  • i just got autograph from tony at namm!!!

  • wow son everybody talkn shit on jay z you can still hear tony so stop bitchn

  • What is this douche with mic doing ? I can't hear Tony!

  • This is one impressive performance by Tony Royster Jr. This guy is a freaking MONSTER on drums. Technique, dynamics, clean and fundamental. What does this guy not have? Personally, I would put him against anybody in the world. This guy can play anything and he is so fun to watch!. Him and Portnoy are the best as far as im concerned. They need to show that bass player some love too! That guy was killing it!

  • @losingsighthxc I'm 100% with you ! Tony Royster Jr and Mike Portnoy are my favorites too, very different styles but they are both so far above the others...

  • I don't think Calisto34 knows the definition of the word "solo."

  • Tony Royster Feat. Jay-Z

  • whole band is incredible!!!!

  • 0:38 my mentor Omar Edwards....im hype..i wanaa be just like omar when I grow up!!

  • Anyone know who the bassist is in this? He absolutely kills it too! Anyone who can keep up with Tony Royster Jnr has gotta be good!!!

  • someone needs to retire those drums whenever he finishes..........he destroyed them.

  • Thumb up if u needed to watch this more than once!

  • You guys crack me up. If its not a sports team, a band, drummer, fuck, I bet if I went to a video of an amazing golfer ---- there would be a handful of idiots arguing about who's REALLY the man... come on, get some sophistication. One thing that kills me is that, of all these people you guys argue about - none gives a flying shit about you and they are all rich as fuck probably, so yo REALLY DO need to get lives. Someone pinch me.

  • @porkythepig007 *PINCH!!!!

  • tony royster is absolutely killing it - so good i come back and watch the video time and time again just to be amazed at not only his perfection but also confidence in himself to play so intricately for such a big event. also on a side note, love the bass walking up at 2:09 - amazing!

  • Why even compare the 2....they both do their thing and are completely different. Tony is a beast - on a whole different level. Travis is just fun to watch cuz he hits really fuckin hard.

  • como no van a mostrar la parte del solo?!

    son unos idiotas los directores!

  • HE CAN PLAY SO GOOD HOW DOES HIS FEET MOVE SO FAST!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Too every debating about good drummers. Steve Jordan & ?uestlove. 2 of the most highest paid session drummers in the world. All they do is just sit in the pocket

  • I dont understand why so many people hate on travis barker, hes good enough to add technical beats and speedy rhythms to punk rock. Id say that takes at least some talent...

  • @death2u886 agreed, but tony is a freak o' nature

  • @death2u886 That's not that new though. Terry Chimes and Topper Headon did it before him, bringing reggae, ska and even pop styled beats into punk. Admittedly they did have the advantage of being in the greatest punk band of all time, The Clash.

  • congratulations jay z !!!!

    fantastic gig,tony royster dangerous!!!

    power drummer

  • WTF?!!?!?!?! They didn't even show Tony until his solo was OVER!!!!

  • the cameraman needs shooting for missing the Tonys break!!!!!

  • THE CROWD LOOKS BORED AS FUCK. not suprised

  • that shit made my nipples hard!

  • @simply6foot2 lol tooo funny

  • @wardrumma it was a little graphic but its the sorrow I carry for being an honest man.

  • Where was the advertised drum solo?

  • @TeeJayGoldstoff the "advertised drum solo" goes off at 1:13 - 1:30 ... though it's no real solo. =/

  • @blablaAcount Yeah I didn't even realize it til later it was almost unnoticeable!

  • man I love Jay-Z. Its like hes gone "I need a bassist, a drummer, a guitarist and a brass section. The stuff they're going to play is like basic but just find the best musicians you possibly can"

Tony Royster is an absolute god. My favourite drummer and this performance by Jay-Z is probably my favourite live performance by any artist ever, the whole set was unreal. The song "there aint no love in the heart of the city" combined with "bloody Sunday" by U2, almost made me cry man. No joke.

  • Stupid choice of video. They got the BEAST! behind the drums and they keep the "Supporters" in the focus...

Cmon guys its friggin Tony Royster Jr.

  • Tony Russell on bass

  • mad mannnnnnn!!!!!!!!!!!

  • that horn section is awesome

  • whos runnin bass???

  • they shud make the bass and drums louder. nd jay-z shud be quieter. bt this song is very tight.

  • wtf is the stupid man with the camerA?????what was he thinking???

  • dont understand why people hate on tony.his solo at age 11 still beats over 95% of drummers at there prime.

  • Props to Jay-Z for showing some class and getting real musicians. Most rappers just use synths and samples.

  • baterista muito sério!! rsrsrsr

  • sooo fucking tight

  • listen to the bass player at 1:40...and tony is just a beast...

  • jay-z would you shut up? I can't hear royster's drums

  • @robingonzalezvalero well its not tony's show its jay-z's

  • @breakrDOWN Sounds like its Tony's show me. Jay-Z just has the mic.

  • @jquest37 i get what your trying to say and i tend to agree if you see his individual solo's...i think he might be the best in the world

  • @robingonzalezvalero Thinking the same thing.

  • @robingonzalezvalero my feelings exactly. said the exact same thing to my dad and then saw this haha.

  • I would have probably gone to that concert just to see Royster's drumming

  • @doubts - because this is Glastonbury: No place for hip hop.

  • i love 1:13 - 1:31

  • damn man... where do i sign to be an illumminati

  • tony royster is fuckin upstagin jay z the whole time.... so fuckin sick, goddamn.

  • i would have been jumping up and down like a human being enjoying him/herself. why are people so fucking dead at concerts. let go !!!!

  • Shame Jay z was making a noise over the top of some fantastic music

  • so fuckin good hes my hero if i become a half as good as him someone can shoot me as i will die happy :)

  • Tony R. so sick. Clean as hell.

  • tony royster took bam job on dis song tony royster is the truth

  • why does rap on albums always suck? but then sound amazing live? Has no one noticed this? Might be a few more crossovers if they captured a live sound...eh?

Heard usher recorded? heard usher live?

  • @a1Drummer07 because most hip hop albums have synthesized instruments. and when they go live it probably sounds empty as balls. plus you can never go wrong with a full live band

  • i feel tha same damn way. dey dont eva wanna give us drummaz no damn recognition. dis nigga T-Roy doin tha damn thing n cameraman on some ol bullshit! ayo T; fuck what them otha niggaz on, nigga, do yo shit, nigga. mo power 2 u my dude. 1.

  • Haha!! at 1:20 Jay-Z dont know what to say or do when Tony takes off in the drum solo! haha!!! so funny =P

  • DA F***k Was DAT?

  • I luvvvv the Bass playerr too

  • @bamktbam14 yeah he is absolutely sick, funky as fuck!

  • @johnpizarelli89 lol yu said it!

  • Tony is on it! Love that bass lick walking up at around 2:10 too.

  • I luvvv 1:57

  • stupid camera men... they've missed out a LOT....

  • @ mr spring something is really wrong with you if you think travis barker dont have rudiments you must not b from another planet you crazy . they both is sick they both making money and u at home wishing that was you on tour so ndont hate ur time coming soon dawg.they have totally 2 different styles anyways if u were a real musician u would kno that. Travis been knowing how to play the music for a long time musicolody is important

  • aggreeed dwn below there!.

  • what snare?

  • it isn't even fair to compare travis to tony... any REAL musician/drummer would understand that. complete different styles.

  • Jay Z=shit

    Tony= awesome

  • that snare roll at 1:57!! LOL

  • it does

  • @s0drummatic I know cool huh? lol i jst learned how to roll and do some of his licks on the set about a week ago

  • Director fail.

  • awesome little bass lick at 2:11

  • never noticed that that was tight as hell love it when they spread the love around like that.

  • Man i like when tony plays solid is awesome! He is a great drummer and is always good to be slolid and humble too.

  • Giv tha Drummer Some!!

  • Show em what you got lil TONY! :))

  • and wat do u expect in a drum solo with Jay-Z, it was hardly gunna be a Weckl. I think he did good for wat he got but then again it is Tony Royster

  • Comment removed

  • I love how people are tryna trash Travis lol. I guarantee Travis what trash anyone on here lol. Tony and Travis have 2 different styles. And i guarantee if you put Travis on this gig with Jay Z, he would still smash this gig. NO QUESTIONS ASKED!!!! There's a reason why both of the these guys have been successful.....THEY'RE GOOD!!! And for the haters....Hop off Travis. If your so much better get off youtube and go get endorsed!!! I'M OUT!!!! lol

  • @frenchfrie3105 Anybody trashing Travis is obviously an idiot and hasnt heard any of his hip-hop remixes.

I havent seen the trashing but if what you're saying is true then they're crazy.

  • Comment removed

  • tony is killing it!!! hes so good!!

  • Travis Barker cant spell Tony

  • and the name of the song is...?

  • the name is Show me what you got, u should read the info of the video dude

  • so good. amazing bass too, love the bass at 2:10

  • travisbarker..............Tony Royster Junior =

    Talent. Both good, both successful.

  • Travis Barker? Don't make me laugh. I've done particularly talentless shits that have more talent than that moron. TR Jr isn't even on the same fucking planet as that assshite

  • Travis Barker is just Noise...he just plays hard n with hardly any rudiments n unique patterns..TonY ROYSTer is THE best at what he does..mastered almst all tha rudemnts u can think of from probly age 12..Yall Need to Look him Up

  • @MrSpringy77 true dat!

  • @MrSpringy77 I absolutely agree TRjr is the best at what he does -- he's incredible. And I also agree he's better than Travis Barker, but for you to say Travis doesn't play any rudiments is ridiculous. He's all about the rudiments. You have heard him play, haven't you?

  • @ElQuesoDiablo didnt say he doesnt ..i said he Hardly plays any..Travis doesnt realli specialize in rudiments etc cuz he's a rock player n in rock u mostly jus play hard n 1 n 2 average rolls. Dnt need as much skills as playn RnB n hiphop n blues

  • @MrSpringy77 Stop overestimating what you saw on this vid. RnB and blues is indeed hard to play with proper groove, but most hip hop and stuff like that nowadays has a very basic beat structure =\

  • @MrSpringy77 To the guy saying Travis Barker plays with no rudiments, how do you explain this: /watch?v=2aA-aKkgqNs ???? Not a huge fan of Travis, but you shouldn't hate a guy just to hate.

  • @thefroh1 Dont say shit if u dont know shit...ITs clear that u dnt kno wat the hell rudiments means. That travis vid was just simply rolling fast. drumming is not all about speed. /watch?v=J6T4OwacRL0 Theres a whole lot more to drummin than speed n noise. btw this is Tony @ 12

  • @MrSpringy77 ARE YOU SERIOUS?? have some respect, tony is great and all but, travis can play drums like a son of a bitch. listen to some old blink 182 you fool.

  • cool solo too bad they missed out catching it on camera

  • Comment removed

  • Hahahaha Travis Barker...people should be forgetting Travis Barker.

  • travis and tony are different drummers, I'm not saying tony aint better than travis but still they bouth have different styles and travis's doesn't have much technicallity but the dude has bad ass grooves, and tony has all the technic that you need to play jazz songs he has that school, on the other side travis has a hip hop/punk rock background and he really is the best on what he does and is a great performer and big brains for good songs

  • oh wow.. LOL

  • he might be the best drummer of this generation, true story

  • thats because the camera man on stage was in shock like i was when i first filmed TRj at the age of ten, before realized what hit me started properly filmingaccordingly. but i had hit the pause button by mistake from all the excitement. :D

  • Love how Jay-Z just stops and turns around and Tony in amazement, shame they didn't show the solo :(.

  • Can we just talk about how the camera man doesn't show Tony until the very last beat of his solo...

  • Tony is too raw!!

  • Neil Peart aint got shit on Tony.

  • you dont gotta compare man. they both do their thing and they both do it very well

  • "Check this boy out!!!"

  • Jeez, things like this really annoy me. So obvious this is a song where the drummer stands out, but noooo, let point the camera on the brass, and when it's actually Roy's time to shine, lets put the camera on a still J-Z!! Well done producer!! Go get paid now. Ohh, and cut to the drummer just after he's finished a brilliant drum roll/solo, that's the one...idiot.

  • @robdbuck lol well said

  • @robdbuck lol ain't that the truth what a dumb producer! royster is killin it and he checkin out the brass. lol

  • @robdbuck i mean i feel yu and all but yu dont always need to see the drummer to hear and feel wat he's playin. ya feel me

  • Tony Royster Jr. Beast!

  • Damn! Tony Royster is just Too Bad!

Just Amazing! Great song and Drumming!

Thanks for posting this clip! It's Bad!

  • I am a drummer who can also play some serious shit and I used to play for Kid Rock and I also got shit from people who knew me and had seen me play in many other musical styles, hey props to Tony Royster! Fuck all these haters man, he is probably havin' a blast up there, and personally I love hip hop!!!

  • @Monsterdrumma Mate i agree 100%! Tony's already made a huge name for himself. He doesnt need to be centre stage with all the coolest rock bands. He loves RnB etc, so fuck it, he's living his dream playing with one of the greatest rappers today!

  • haha yea how could you not love hip hop. It came from funk!!! well maybe not rap but u know what I mean.

  • If you listen to the stuff Tony was doing before Jay-Z you will notice a strikeing similarity, it sucked too. The guys a fantastic drummer, but wtf? Money talks and to each their own. Just wish he was in a band where he wasnt the only one with superb talent. @donald4789 : my sentiments exactly.
