Speaking as a police officer in the US, I think the Taiwanese police officer used very poor tactics and over-reacted. He should have waited for back up before engaging a large group of potential suspects. He could have used less-lethal weapons such as baton, teargas, taser... etc if available to him.

Firing "warning shots" into the air is a VERY BAD IDEA... too dangerous in a crowded city. Police in the U.S. are NOT allowed to fire warning shots into the air, for very good reasons.

In US, there is no such a thing as "warning shot." People who "touched" the police will be warned one time; the next time he "touched" the police will be pointed by guns. All I can say is, these people are "lucky" that they are not in the US.

For those of you who didn't understand the Mandarin, the guy the police questioned, his Identity papers weren't in order and they had to confirm his identity. The law is the law and the police had to arrest, but why did they shoot their pistol to get arrest the men? Are Taiwanese cops not equipped with pepper spray and batons?
