I agree with you Rollo! Americans are suppressing my Irish ancestors religious beliefs and I have yet to see a "Folkish" view in Celtic Reconstructionist Paganism. I get very offended when I hear Americans thinking that Tartan and Bagpipes is Scottish Culture lol, If they really understood my ancestors customs, clearly they would know that Tartan was a foreign invention having no relationship to Scottish or Gaelic culture in general. Sadly they don't and it comes from those claiming to be Celtic
@TheIntoxicatedlady Thank you :) I do agree that there is a lack of Folkish thought in modern Celtic Paganism. You are very wise and I like & value your opinions. Celts are strong and you do them proud, milady :D It is nice to meet you
@RolloOfTheNorth@RolloOfTheNorth Cheers! Nice to meet you too! I'm very proud of my Irish (and Scottish half - half Irish half Scot here) ancestors and the least I can do is remember them by honouring the Gods they worshipped. I'm currently writing an article on Folkish CR and I'm soon to publish it on my blog. They'll be war on the blog no doubt - from the universalists obviously lol.
@TheIntoxicatedlady I am glad that you take pride in your heritage and honor the ways of your people. I can't wait to read this article. What is the site for your blog? The universalists claim tolerance but then they are shocked and offended when they discover someone else HAS a different opinion lol. I fight against the erasure of culture and seek to preserve it. I am very glad you do the same. It's not an easy battle we fight but it is worthwhile. :)
@RolloOfTheNorth HAILSA Kinsmen!!! I'm Folkish Asatru as well, and like the comments I've seen on this video and topic. Being Folkish Asatru is not about the destructive hate of anyone other culture/beliefs, it is about the loving preservation of our own culture/beliefs. As for all the comments of celtic influences...just remember this kinfolk all Northern European's come from the same "Germanic/Teutonic" branch of ancestry. For Family, Faith, and Folk.Hail the gods(esses)!!!
i read an article about Folkish Ásatrú, was accusing it to be racist. about Hitler and Nazis but i couldn't believe it to be true, and it was a good thing i found this video. also wasn't Folkish Ásatrú brought to Poland as well?
I agree totally. My view on racism is that it is hatred based in laziness. The idea is that I am better than someone else based purely on their race.
Folkish Asatru does not espouse the idea that we are better than other races. Rather that we should work to be the best we can be so that our descendants will remember. Being "better" than other races never comes into play as each man is measured by his own worth.
Those who are not of the "germanic bloodlines" have they're own culture to cling to
Living I meant. I hate American culture, and pop culture for that matter. Here in southern California, I feel like an Alien from Mars. And thinking the way I do isnt exactly modern
I've been reading a lot of Varg Vikernes writings... and although he's a blatant racist, I would have to say I agree with the majority of what he's about. But I don't hate anyone for there skin color. That's absolutely irrational and ignorant thinking. But loving here in America, I must say, if and when the economy gets better, and I'm financially secure, I will move to Norway.
@MsLongShadow You're right, I fucked that one up. Thor did have red hair. As far as knowing my history... I know some of Odins first children were black in color, and felt he needed to better on that and was adamant at having whiter children... thus showing obvious racism. That's why racism to me isn't exactly a hate. We are different races, with different cultures, and should all flourish in that. That's why I sort of feel a nationalistic feeling. We would thrive better as a human race I think
I was born and bred in England. Its my home. I honour my ancestors in their way and I honour the gods in mine/theirs. I don't hate others and have a healthy respect for other paths. And by the way, I'm of African Carribean descent. What I do and who I worship is my buisness and mine alone.
So my thoughts...? I don't see myself being any other way. Im folkish. But It actually scares me from calling myself apart of Asatru. Maybe I'll just call myself heathen.
I actually came across this because I had seen that the term folkish doesn't actually describe all heathens, while knowing how Odin wanted to breed the best child, and didn't care much for his darker skinned children, but was happy to finally have Thor. Pale white skin blond hair blue eyes I believe. I mean, aren't those messages along folkish lines? When I heard that some Asatru organizations are now accepting some people of others races, I was rather sickened.
@INordicII3lood I'm with you on that. Our religion is that of our people, not some commodity thrown in a shopping cart of whoever likes the packaging.
@INordicII3lood If you know your history then you would know that there were African Danes, called Bla-Moars. One of them was called Thorolf and is mentioned, along with his brother and father, in the Saga of Egil. Oh and by the way, Thor's hair was RED not blonde.
Hails from U.S. Felt very proud to be a Norwegian/German believing in the old religion of the North while listening to your video. Pride came over me. Good shit man!
@DamnHeathen1988 Asatru is a faith based on ancestry, what then would someone of a different origin and culture have in common with Asatru? Its insulting and demeaning that you think it can be anything else. Heathenism never was and has never sought to be a universalist religion like Christianity.
@SenatorGrimshaw My normal voice is dull and boring. I thought the accent would spice up the video, aside from that, I like German accents. Nice to meet you.
@DamnHeathen1988 I can respect you opinion but not your motive. You say that I seem like a Christian, well the fact that you just decided to take a shot at me from out of the blue makes you seem like something worse, a liberal. If you don't like my video, don't watch it. Please don't make any more demeaning comments. I accept that you don't agree with my view. Fine, now let it be.
@RolloOfTheNorth I said it makes you seem no different than one.
as for being liberal no I'm a free thinker.
Political alignment breeds only corruption and herd mentality.
Folkish people often try to use liberal as insult not realizing that conservative is just as bad, especially since most conservatives want to make Christianity into law, which is kinda funny when a Heathen promotes extreme conservative views.
@RolloOfTheNorth , I watched the video in hope of that rare chance to find a none moronic Folkish Heathen. so far I've only found 3 Folksih Heathens that aren't morons.
the fact that you used liberal as an insult shows that it is your motive that should be in question not mine.
if you wish to enforce Christianity into law then you are no Heathen simply a poser, conservatives that use liberal as an insult are generally the ones who wish to enforce Christianity.
@DamnHeathen1988 I assume by 'moronic' you are alluding to racism and the political right wing? I am neither, though I've been labeled as both quite often. I am firmly against Christianity in all forms, especially in the political spectrum, and would never support/enforce it or it's way of thinking. It seems you really don't like people with Folkish views. It would also seem that because of this viewpoint, you might not like nationalistic views either. Would you care to explain your thoughts?
@RolloOfTheNorth I meet many Folkish Heathens who are racists, about 9 out of every 10 are but will deny it and Deny any form of historical fact that may work against their views. As for nationalistic views it all depends, people all too often cross the line of extremism so long as it doesn't cross the line I'm fine with it and at this point encourage it in Europe seeing as they are having so many problems with Islamic extremists.
@DamnHeathen1988 I've only ever met a few true 'racist' heathens, but they are not extremists or even publicly vocal of their views. Most Folkish people I know and associate with are good, hardworking people. We get along well with people of other cultures and ethnicities but we firmly believe in the ancestral bloodline of the gods, stretched as it may be. I know a Japanese-American who understands, appreciates, and follows this same viewpoint, practicing his native Shinto.
@RolloOfTheNorth What I hate is not necessarily Folkish views but rather Folkish people who think they have the right to tell other tribes and clans how to be, or who may follow the ways of our ancestors, Odin is the Allfather not the Whitefather.
I've met Folkish people who seem to think anyone who is white is Folk, this is just plain stupidity, white people want to destroy our people as much as any other ethnic group who Follows an abrihamic faith.
@DamnHeathen1988 I don't know where you're getting the idea that I'm dictating to other clans/tribes. If you want to get technical, the same can be said of you dictating to me what I can or can't say and do. I made a video with my viewpoint and threw it out there. I never once said this is how it MUST be done. Sure I believe it SHOULD be done like that but I don't look down on anyone for not practicing in such a way. I made very clear it's for the individual to decide for him/herself.
@RolloOfTheNorth even if they're German, Scandinavian or Slavic this doesn't make them Folk. A German Christian is no more part of the Folk than a black voodoo priest.
@DamnHeathen1988 I've handled more and better shots than this little disagreement. I may have been wrong in my original assessment of you seeming to be a liberal, as it appears you actually have a brain and your own views. I can respect that you are sticking up for your point of view but I don't see how my views could be misconstrued as christian or even conservative (aside from the liberal comment). I don't follow or get involved with politics.
@RolloOfTheNorth "I Follow the true form of Heathenism" we are tribalists not universalists, we have our rules and guide lines no commandments. There is neither a rule nor guideline that states we must be Folkish. if one wishes to be Folkish I respect that but they have no right to tell others how to run their clan/tribe or proclaim their way the true way or the only way.
What concerns your other views, i couldn't agree more. Ásatrú is more than just a religion as any other, it is also striving to identity. The gods are a representation of how our ancestors thought, saw and felt the world. This feeling i believe, only a person of Germanic descent can have those same strong feelings as they had. People outside the germanic "tribe" should consider their own native/ethnic religions.
@Metaldude1945 Thanks :) I agree with that. Only people of their respective ethnic 'tribes' can truly feel and understand their ancient pantheons because it's an integral part of their being. I'm glad there's someone out there who feels the same way. Nice to meet you.
France and Russians aren't Germanic actually. However, they had some Germanic influences, that you are right about. The people of France are mainly Gaul, thus celtic. Russians are mainly a slavic people. Both have germanic names, because of the nobility or rulers. When the Franks came to France, they were only 2% of the people, they intermarried, or got back to the North, Flanders(Belgium), where I live, because they couldn't speak the Latin language.
@Metaldude1945 Nice, thanks for sharing. :) I'm always happy to hear from a fellow history lover. I had read that the Goths (the ones originally from Sweden) had a losing battle with the Huns and had settled into the general French area. That's why I consider them Germanic, but they are equally Celt also. Genetically, I'm German and Irish, so I know what it's like to be in the middle :D
@RolloOfTheNorth Well, those tribes had low influences. Most of the times they intermarried and they were only a low part of the population. If they were bigger, the French might 've spoken a Germanic language today, which they don't. French people are probably 80%+ Celtic, and yeah, 5% Germanic perhaps. Other percentage is Roman/Italic i'd say.

my view on this is quite simple, deny who you will from your clan but do not try and say who I can have in mine.
I'm proud of my heritage but that doesn't mean I will bar the way from another from following Heathenism.
and if a man of another culture proves his worth then indeed I will gladly accept him.
also to claim your way is the "real way" makes you seem no different than the Christians.
