it can't bite your finger off it have no teeth!!! but it is a easy fish to pet, but you have to stick your whole hand in the water, so it isn't thinking your fingers is food, but remember it can't bite your finger off it have no teeth.
Yes Jason I realize it is a run on sentence. I apologize for the difficulty you had reading it. When I get on a rant I tend to forget punctuation its a bad habit I need to break. It just bugs the shit out of me when people get on here talkin about shit the obviously know nothin about. You know what I mean, I've had oscars all my life and I know the ins and outs of these fish and readin that pisses me right the fuck off.
Btw ppl are ignorant they obviously have not researched anything about this or have ever been around it long enough to know anything about it so please keep your dumbass comments off the board if you know nothing about it shut up and research it you might actually learn something that is if your mind isn't just mush and you can actually retain information
This is a beautiful Oscar and greygoose you sir are wrong goldfish and catfish are the only the only fish that grow to match there environment you sir do not know what your talking about Oscars will grow and grow and grow till there full size which is normally 12 to 14 inches this guy/girl looks about 14 inches and it doesn't matter how big the tank is Oscars well always get that big it could be in a 10 gallon and still get that big I don't suggest anyone do that but it will happen that way no
@12345nogame Do you realize you didn't use one period in your paragraph? That has to be the longest run-on sentence I've ever seen. The reason why I'm telling you is because your diatribe is very difficult to read without punctuation.
A fish only grows as big as its tank. IT also can be trained to come to the top of the tank to be touched and stroked. it can be done with one or two fingers if it is trained. i kept kmy oscar in a 10 gal because i didnt want him to get huge. this tank here is no smaller than any other one in any other video
i used to try to pet my red belly piranhas but they just swam away. all but one. you didnt pet him though cuz he would bite but he would eat from your hand too.... awesome fish you have there. very pretty. never would have thought to try to pet one so large..
@mattyydunn1991 You stupid son of a bitch, that tank is 75 gallons, for one oscar!!! That's plenty big enough!!! WTF you want him to do,build a lake in his house??
i totally agree about the whole teasing thing, maybe you should try using a bigger peice of food so that he doesnt bite your finger in the process of tryng to take that micromolecule of a peice of food,
how much money did that whole thing cost you?im savin up to get some soon and i want a large tank cause its not fair to the oscar if you get a small one and hurt it.i want a 75 gal+tank...please respond.
@huge2na my 3 are in a 55 with 2 55 gallon filters on them so there water stays clean but there not even 12 inches yet so I say they have a year or more befor they need a bigger one then again people fight on tank size for them then you get all these experts thinking they know it all
@huge2na If you were petting me too I would mostlikely bite. That or just kick you in the groin... SO not really "crazy" of the fish if you think about it.
@huge2na dude, your moms tank is just fine, that has too be one of the prettiest oscars ive ever seen. but on a side note ive seen ppl keep a happy, healthy, oscar in a thirty gallon tank. while i do not condone that type of fish husbandry it is possbile if you are determined enough to get it done, personally i wouldnt keep them in less then 125, thats what my trio is in and has been happy since 3 inch babies
@huge2na An Oscar this size would be ideal in a bare bottomed 75 Gal. Not a furnished one. If you want to decorate a tank you have to accommodate for space. A 100 Gallon setup would be a good size for this fish, Oscars are a really emotional fish. They get stressed easy in cramped tanks which is why most are grey instead of black. I'm glad you have well maintained water for such a monster fish.
All beginners, an Oscar may be cheap at a store but require lots of $ and attention to detail at size.
@mattyydunn1991 lmao I have an Oscar - hes healthy as a horse and he likes being pet and teased. I hand feed him daily. I chase him with quick little tap - he chases my fingers. I don't find this vid cruel. Far worse out there . Its actually ok for a O fish that size in a tank that size as well. It is very clean, seems well kept to me.
well i think if you were to stick more of your hand in rather than just a little bit of your finger it wouldn't go after your hand. your little finger and you wiggling it probably just makes it look like food to the fish. ahah, beautiful fish. and i'll give you props. i wouldnt've tried to pet that fish.
i have 2 cichlida and their a baby in a 10 gallon tank...i know its to small for 2 of em so who ever gets bigger first will eat the other and i will then have 1 cichlid in a 10 gallon tank hahahaha idc if its to small its like 200 for a new tank and another 200 for a stand so screw that
@joe2black1 even if he doesn't have to spend his life with this guy, he would have to spend it with someone else. even worse possible./ so stop your bitching.
You're just teasing him. You have to stick your whole hand in the water, not your finger because he just thinks you're either teasing him or you want him to bite your finger like a tasty worm.
@xBaliZtiik totally revealing my inner science geek here, but piranhas and oscars are not in the same family; they are not even in the same order. Beautiful Oscar!!!! I have never had one, but due to their awesomeness and magnificent size, next to the Red Cap Oranda and the Betta (which i do have), Oscars have always been one of my favorites!!
it doesn't look like a 150 gal tnk. A 125 is 6 ft by 18" by 20", approximately,- and this looks maller than that, although the view isn't really comprehensive.
these people keep calling people retarded.lol you can feed your oscars by hand...it isnt recommended but is allowed...and if it dies who cares buy a new fish cause its just a f***ing fish!!!
Most peoples fish die right after purchase is cuz the tank isn't fully cycled (new tank syndrome). That usually causes stress which can lead to ICH (white spots). Then there's stuff like HITH due to poor conditions/stress/ not enough water changes. There's Hexamita (stingy white poop) n other internal/external parasites and fungus. Live feeders (usually the carriers) which haven't been quarantined is a good example. Most people don't have an xtra tank to quarantine so there's no way find out.
Finally a tank big enough for an oscar n good filtration. Tired of seeing these guys cramped in a 29/ 55 gallon. A 55 is a foot longer but has the same width of 12". A well taken care of oscar will grow 10"-12" the first year then slowly max out around 15-16". You'll stunt its growth and curve its spine. That's why people say 75+ cuz of the 18"width and to lessen the bioload. They don't recommend rosies/goldfish as feeder cuz they carry lots of parasites n diseases. Google hexamita and HITH!!
@dpark254 thank you you agree with me also! i hate when people have them in a 55. look at my vids my 13inch monster has his head beant to the side because we saved him from a 55
@bobbyisthedevil are u to fuckin retarded to know what was said? seems like it cause ur crying about hand feeding your fish which has nothing to do with what was said so good job? might want to read what was said then make a comment that actually has something to do with what i said or you just look like a retard AGAIN.
Hi, I need some advice, I currently have a 5ft by 18 by 2ft aquarium with one albino oscar at 8" i was wondering, would it be ok to add another oscar to the tank at the same size? the tank is 100 gallons thanks.
i wonder who would win ina fight an oscar or giant snakhead? snakeheads are bigger and tougher and got more attitude but a little slow oscars are more fast and have more agility did u see how he went after his thumb? and if u wanna know what a pist off hungry snakehead looks like look up giant snakehead vs 10 inch bass it epic!!!
a crab almost cut off my finger when i was a little kid (seriously) i saw too little bulbs in the water that twiched, and i was a freaking idiot not to realise they were crab eyes straight away, so im poking at the base seing wtf it was, then BAM! 2really freaking big pinscers just push my finger away! so close to being snipped. and it turns out it was a mud crab (those ones actually can decapitate your finger/thumb)
Where would be a good place to get earthworms? I have a 11'' Oscar and a Jack Dempsey about the same size.. I would dig them out of the ground but im a little bit worried about them having desieses or something. Any Suggestions?
Oscars are really cool fish, but I'd reccomend a pellet diet with the occasional earthworm or waxworm. Frozen beefheart is good too. Just more healthy for them. Feeder fish = gross & diseased.
@flightsimace yes it is... they should mainly eat pellets made for cichlids. Feeder fish are not nutritious, along with the fact you can kill your fish that way.
'To try and pet them' it says in the description. What utter rubbish, 'to try and trick the fish into thinking our fingers are food' is more accuarate.
And your condoning it to your kids. Wait till they see a pirahhna tank at sea world.
now why would u put ur finger in the tank just drop the food in...that fish eats bigger fish than ur finger...it looks hungry maybe u should feed it live fish like goldfish or menos.
that is wrong. any fish(even ones that you just bought)that isnt quarinten for 2 weeks to make sure no ich or parasites can do this even cray fish they are ok but not as a staple food for them high in protien = shorter life.
are u retarded? if u just throw shit in ur tank (ANYTHING) food, pets, decor and dont make sure that it doesnt have parasites then u can get it that way. feeders are fine just have to quarinten. can u understand that? if not plz dont respond because i cant make it any simpler
oh well i posted tht a while ago geeeez calm down no need o be an ass about it. and yea i know thts why i quarantine all of my fish and wash all my decor, however feeders are faty and their bones are hard to digest, its shown that its not healthy for fish to eat other fish...much better to feed them other live foods and high protein pellet foods.
@huge2na Oscars don't necessarily die of HITH. It's easily treated and you'll know right away when they have it. Something caused the HITH like stess, high level of ammonia, nitrite, nitrate etc.. All which can be easily prevented with propler water changes n keeping good parameters. Oscars usually require more water changes than others cuz they tend to be messy eaters. It's the combination of something bad which led to HITH. The HITH was just the visible warning that something wasn't right.
South American I think. But really, they aren't as viscious as some may think. I used to have them at the petstore I worked for, and they were actually the coolest fish we had.
i got my self a lil oscar in a tank thats good for his size..n soon he will b big n i want him 2 hav a home like yours.. can u tell me the size of ur tank plz :)
@huge2na never feed live fish... buy frizn ones... live feeder fish can carry diseases!!!! and i hope you have a bigger tank now as that one is WAY too small. x
any one that owns an oscar can agree with the experts. Oscar are not fish they are pets. Once they get comfortable in their surroundings they can recognize the owner and most times won't act up with that person. They are actually trainable in a fish tank sorta way (it won't sit...duh) Unfortanatlly once you pick this species it is really hard to raise any other aquatic pet.

My oscars kind've tilt side ways when I pet them, if I feed them they don't care.
OfficialFever 1 year ago
lol, I had two oscars. They never really bit me when they're petted, since they knew they'd get a treat if they behaved. heh

"Half a thumb" Wait..What?

a crab almost cut off my finger when i was a little kid (seriously) i saw too little bulbs in the water that twiched, and i was a freaking idiot not to realise they were crab eyes straight away, so im poking at the base seing wtf it was, then BAM! 2really freaking big pinscers just push my finger away! so close to being snipped. and it turns out it was a mud crab (those ones actually can decapitate your finger/thumb)

As long as you get the worms were the ground hasnt
Been pesticided and before you feed the wash them with cool water
baseballman1321 1 year ago
Where would be a good place to get earthworms? I have a 11'' Oscar and a Jack Dempsey about the same size.. I would dig them out of the ground but im a little bit worried about them having desieses or something. Any Suggestions?

poor fish
sunnysunshinegirl26 2 years ago
Oscars are really cool fish, but I'd reccomend a pellet diet with the occasional earthworm or waxworm. Frozen beefheart is good too. Just more healthy for them. Feeder fish = gross & diseased.
RocknSchrock 2 years ago
hey i have an oscar well just got one that and a jack dempsey and its pretty much all i feed them ( feeder fish) is it really bad for them?
flightsimace 2 years ago
@flightsimace yes it is... they should mainly eat pellets made for cichlids. Feeder fish are not nutritious, along with the fact you can kill your fish that way.

cool fish and aquarium
GageHolmes138 2 years ago
'To try and pet them' it says in the description. What utter rubbish, 'to try and trick the fish into thinking our fingers are food' is more accuarate.
And your condoning it to your kids. Wait till they see a pirahhna tank at sea world.
theeleventhjoker 2 years ago
now why would u put ur finger in the tank just drop the food in...that fish eats bigger fish than ur finger...it looks hungry maybe u should feed it live fish like goldfish or menos.
xtine1981 2 years ago
not a good idea, feeder fish are not good for oscars and they very easily transmit disease
JustMe31598 2 years ago
that is wrong. any fish(even ones that you just bought)that isnt quarinten for 2 weeks to make sure no ich or parasites can do this even cray fish they are ok but not as a staple food for them high in protien = shorter life.
zerocool212121 2 years ago
what the hell are you talking about?
JustMe31598 2 years ago
are u retarded? if u just throw shit in ur tank (ANYTHING) food, pets, decor and dont make sure that it doesnt have parasites then u can get it that way. feeders are fine just have to quarinten. can u understand that? if not plz dont respond because i cant make it any simpler
zerocool212121 2 years ago 6
oh well i posted tht a while ago geeeez calm down no need o be an ass about it. and yea i know thts why i quarantine all of my fish and wash all my decor, however feeders are faty and their bones are hard to digest, its shown that its not healthy for fish to eat other fish...much better to feed them other live foods and high protein pellet foods.
JustMe31598 2 years ago

lucky my tiger oscar was to old he died
AshleyXa7x 2 years ago
Ours died too from the hole in the head disease I do not know what i is actually called.
huge2na 2 years ago
@huge2na hole in the head is usually from being malnourished.
ewwies 1 year ago
@huge2na it is called hole in the head. It s from extremely high nitrates that build up from being lazy about water changes.
membermanco 1 year ago
@huge2na Oscars don't necessarily die of HITH. It's easily treated and you'll know right away when they have it. Something caused the HITH like stess, high level of ammonia, nitrite, nitrate etc.. All which can be easily prevented with propler water changes n keeping good parameters. Oscars usually require more water changes than others cuz they tend to be messy eaters. It's the combination of something bad which led to HITH. The HITH was just the visible warning that something wasn't right.

Is Oscar like an African version of a piranha?
Badassbok 2 years ago
The fish species is and Oscar and it isn't related to a piranha at all, they both live in amazonian though
Sabrermk42 2 years ago
South American I think. But really, they aren't as viscious as some may think. I used to have them at the petstore I worked for, and they were actually the coolest fish we had.

are you feeding him goldfish flakes??
can you do that?
joshieboy312 3 years ago
No they have a special flake diet as well as live goldfish every now and then.
huge2na 3 years ago
@huge2na might be why he got hole in head disease, not judging but i heard that that can cause that if you get a bad dirty goldfish
mypureimagination 1 year ago
@huge2na never feed live fish... buy frizn ones... live feeder fish can carry diseases!!!! and i hope you have a bigger tank now as that one is WAY too small. x
grepne 1 year ago
that looks like a 55g tank and it looks straight to me for the oscar they usually lazy passive fish anyways and it seems to enjoy it

My mother has about 8 55-100 gallon tanks, he was the only fish in there. Agree'd though a bigger tank wont hurt.
huge2na 3 years ago
your retarded
tvanluyk 3 years ago
yeah, just get small ones that cant hurt you, and once they are bigger they will recognize you and wont bite you
tvanluyk 3 years ago
any one that owns an oscar can agree with the experts.
