Every race on earth has thier own exclusive territories except euro types. Modern white people are the only ones on earth who have no idea what it feels like to have thier own space, thier own culture, to live exclusively amongst people who resemble them in thought, spirituallity, behavior, and yes aesthetics. A lot of folks here are unable to look at this historic movie for what it is...a piece of history. It didn't cause any history to happen. It reflected the times. All you progressives need to realize that your progressive movement hero, Woodrow Wilson, LOVED this movie...thought that blacks were inferior, and, in keeping with progressive philosophy, thought that the movie was "terribly true". It is an important film...even though it does not portray the truth of historical events.

Excellent film that is still relevant today, sadly. D.W. Griffith painted a chillingly accurate potrayal of African American behavior in a post Civil War United States. If only we'd listened to this brilliant film then, our nation wouldn't be in such dire times as it is now. Considering how the Obama administration has been, Griffith's The Birth of a Nation seems in many ways like a prophecy of documentary rather than action adventure (as many thought of it as at the time).

@lukebccb this film is set as such a marvel because it was 1 of D.W.Griffiths first full length features, something hard to pull off in the early 20th century. It was a pioneer to present cinema and highly controversial, and shows how strongly influenced he was by his fathers war stories and pride he had for him. I'm sure if you were amongst the spectators watching this in 1915, you would have a love for it's innovation of cinema. i'm sure those films are good too, but remember where it began.

I would rather be watching a Chaplin film. The first film he was in is Making a Living (1914) a year before this, with Chaplin you get none of the racist bullshit.. I am watching this movie, only because I was told that it was important. Important doesn't necessarily mean good. It means that much has been affected by it. I have only viewed Part One, but, intend to view the rest, regardless as to how painful it might be. I am curious, however, as to why some of the characters are in black face, while others are African American. I'm also curious as to why the young girls in this film are portrayed as being completely mad.

What's beautiful about these style of films, the silent film, is that the actors had to truly be talented by their expressions and their actions to convey the story. There's a certain type of beauty in these films because you don't always have to use words. The actions say it better than the words do.

A lot of folks here are unable to look at this historic movie for what it is...a piece of history. It didn't cause any history to happen. It reflected the times. All you progressives need to realize that your progressive movement hero, Woodrow Wilson, LOVED this movie...thought that blacks were inferior, and, in keeping with progressive philosophy, thought that the movie was "terribly true". It is an important film...even though it does not portray the truth of historical events.

Excellent film that is still relevant today, sadly. D.W. Griffith painted a chillingly accurate potrayal of African American behavior in a post Civil War United States. If only we'd listened to this brilliant film then, our nation wouldn't be in such dire times as it is now. Considering how the Obama administration has been, Griffith's The Birth of a Nation seems in many ways like a prophecy of documentary rather than action adventure (as many thought of it as at the time).

He tries to use eloquence & an expanded vocabulary (you can sprinkle powdered sugar on shit, but that doesn't make it a doughnut) to disguises the fact that underneath all that, he's as clueless as they come. If you wanna see a good Griffith movie go look up "Way Down East" or "Broken Blossoms".

@lukebccb this film is set as such a marvel because it was 1 of D.W.Griffiths first full length features, something hard to pull off in the early 20th century. It was a pioneer to present cinema and highly controversial, and shows how strongly influenced he was by his fathers war stories and pride he had for him. I'm sure if you were amongst the spectators watching this in 1915, you would have a love for it's innovation of cinema. i'm sure those films are good too, but remember where it began.

I would rather be watching a Chaplin film. The first film he was in is Making a Living (1914) a year before this, with Chaplin you get none of the racist bullshit.. For it's achievements in film making? For me it's like the line in Seinfeld about who discovered the Mississippi river, "Like they wouldn't have found that." I am watching this movie, only because I was told that it was important. Important doesn't necessarily mean good. It means that much has been affected by it. I have only viewed Part One, but, intend to view the rest, regardless as to how painful it might be. I am curious, however, as to why some of the characters are in black face, while others are African American. I'm also curious as to why the young girls in this film are portrayed as being completely mad.

@purometalyrap I wasn't saying that racism is beautiful, I'm saying that this style of film is, the silent film. When immature people comment on this saying that it's boring, first of all it's important that we remember this and second of all if they don't like it they shouldn't watch it.

@blindmansarrow It's not because it adores the Bible. What's beautiful about these style of films, the silent film, is that the actors had to truly be talented by their expressions and their actions to convey the story. There's a certain type of beauty in these films because you don't always have to use words. The actions say it better than the words do.

@blindmansarrow I know this isn't the only silent film. My personal favorite would have to be "Broken Blossoms" or "Intolerance."
And I guess that's a matter of personal opinion whether the actors are talented or not. Either way this film is important and we need to remember what happened before so that we don't repeat it.

Remove the racist shit and this movie would still be pretty bad.
Watched this movie too many times to count as I own the DVD Watch BofN a few times and it starts to deteriorate as a story. I use the term "banal" to describe it. Griffith's later work like "Intolerance" and "Broken Blossoms" are much better.
Wanna see a great movie from 1915 go find "The Cheat" by a young DeMille. It's not the usual craptacular of his later years. Most film snobs agree The Cheat was ahead of it's time.

i think this video not only brings out the aggression in everyone, but teaches us something. this is the obvious mentality of the white supremacists (WASPs, if you will.) of this time frame. everyone needs to stop over reacting to an ancient ass movie that obviously does not reflect the common mentalities of TODAY! >_<
