You have to watch the second season without thinking of the art change. It couldn't be helped since the first season was made by Madhouse who has a monster budget, and the second was made by Artland who does not have as high of a budget. I like the storyline of the second season because it's more put together, but the series was just great as a whole :D
@Foxykun16 I agree 100% on your comment. Too bad art has to be very subjective and criticizing. I just find both seasons different, not better or worse. Just because the art direction changes doesn't make the story any more intense than it already is.
The second season rewind it for me. I likes it because people where drawn like how people in real life looked. So it is rewind due to the drawing style.
I really liked the season for it's story, mostly for the connection with pinicco and the sympathy you feel towards the end of the final episodes. The art bugged me at first, mostly because Henrietta, Rico, and Treila seemed to happy compared to season one, but I got over it.
And if any one didn't know already, seven seas publishing picked up the GSG license and will have book number 7 out soon.
This is really a beautiful anime, and for me, an Italian, the similarities with our society and political situatation are really "realistic". There is really a conflict between North and South, but, fortunatly, not terrorism... again. Ah other example: The two person at 0:55 are really similar to Rosi Bindi and Romano Prodi, two impotrant politicians of the old Government.
I think the 2nd Season is great, There's a little more action in this- which is good. The different animation style is the only thing about the series that bothers me. Just hard to look at their eyes- kinda creepy in a way.
Its a shame alot of people are basing this season just by the animation. Sure it dosnt feel the same for some characters like henrieta and the handlers but still its a great story! This season also introduced Pinnocio who is awesome. Just watch the series first and then you can judge whether its good or bad. ( I also perfered the changes to triela and angelica)
@Kike832 They changed Angelica? I don't mind the art change, i actually like it but... Angelica is my favourite character, I just finished the first season and I hope they didn't change her TOO much. :( Ahhh, gotta watch before I judge. :P
It shouldn't be too much of a shock, she should be dead so at least you still have Angelica in season 2. They just retconned it which totally ruined the ending of season one for me. I still love the series though.

Everyone seems to talk about the quality of the animation between the two seasons, I haven't watch this yet, but based on the video clips of the ops i have watched from both season 1 and this 1, I think this is better.

Angelica was the only one that went through a significant appearance chance, but I think she and everyone else looks better.

Little kids anime usually is a lot more... Comic-ish? No not really mayby... But this kind of style is often used for late-nigh ecchi moe animes that only otakus watch. Like... Akane-iro ni Somaru Saka.

I myself wasn't 100% in favor of how this show felt compared to the first SERIES but I grew to like it. It has the same deep story and feelings the the first season. It it just changed from Henrietta and Jose to Triela and Pinocchio. And this part of Yu Adia's story is were it actually has a story. The earlier show was more of 'a day in the life of' where it was all leading to this...

If you compare the fighting scenes, you can see how more fluid the animation is in Season 1 compared to ll Teatrino. Not only that, but doesn't the character design remind you of Pokemon rather than a dark and grim themed anime?
Overall you can tell that Season 1 production team had put a lot of effort and money into the animation. The quality of Season 1 isn't in Season 2.

If anything I found annoying about this continuation is the way the girls' eyes seem more like glass....
they're too pretty, not damaged enough, and don't show nearly as much character depth as the last one...
It feels like this season was tailored to only a certain set of fans...
