...the solver can also 'cheat' by first factoring the numerator (the dividend),

yielding (x+8)(x-5), Then noting that the (x-5) terms cancel, leaving

x+8. But I like the elegance and method of the division shown here, and

only some polynomials can be so readily factored.

@ZanRich12 She is using Windows Journal. It came standard with the tablet version of windows XP, It now comes standard with windows 7. It is a free Microsoft product to so you probably can find it easily on the web.

Very good indeed, but you compliceted the last division. Skip that 0x and place what's left after the subtraction witch's 6x-30, that method simplifies the division a bit but it's not a big deal. Great work anyways, ^^

But that is basic algebra. If you can't multiply x with x then polynomial division is maybe a little too hard ;)
