@VeganTopekan Well, with the batteries, speed control, motor, servos, and receiver I'm guessing it could easily add up to $700. If you get name-brand products, that is.
@spazman13579 I'd have trouble building that plane for $700, and to state you crashed a $700 plane as if you lost $700 in the process is plain old misleading, considering 4/5 of that cost is recoverable.
$175 airframe
$70 Power 25 BL Outrunner Motor, 870 kV
$85 e-flite 60a pro speed controller
$80 four hitec micro servos
$50 futaba micro rx
$50 battery/etc
Thats $510, all name brand, all brand new. You said $700 is "actually quite cheap for an Eratix" and you're wrong, easy as that.

@southforsunshine You're right, I'm guessing he was talking about everything. Some Spektrum receivers can be $120+, he may have been using something like a MaxAmps battery (which are insanely priced), and maybe some other BEC or something. And even possibly some really expensive HiTec digital servos, who knows. My Eratix was around $550 total and I tried to keep the price low by using some off-brand batteries and it was still $500. Maybe he had a GPS on it or an EagleTree setup, who knows.
@spazman13579 Unfortunately in Australia every costs a lot more than USA and when I purchased this plane the USD to AUD was about $0.86, so you you can start getting an idea of the cost. Also crash was into Salt water. Destroyed all electronics/servos instantly. Nothing recoverable...... Everything was top shelf. Plane $240 USD shipped to Aus, Mighty Mini MG servo['s ($55 aud each), Hyperion speedy, broad amp batteries ect...

Great video! It's awesome that you swam out there and recovered everything. What a cool life experience captured on video! Now that's what I'm talking about! Nice dude.
@7bikerboy7 all you have to do is download a mp4 codec pack or something like that. I'm terrible with computers but if you do what I did and google how to make mp4 videos work for windows movie maker then you should find what you need to download to make it work. (use the word codec, I have no idea what it means or what it is but yah, codec.) hope this helps.
I know how it feels to write off this plane, I sheared the wing in half on a chain link fence and smashed the fuselage in half! Power setup from it just got installed into my new E-flie Extra 300 which I think is much lighter so will really scream with power 32 .
Had the option to buy another Eratix at the time of replacement but thought I would try something new. Had about 130 flights on it before its death!
Was it a radio or engine failure? It realy would srew up my day to lose a RC plane with full FPV setup including the GoPro. Just invest a few more bucks in a failsafe and "return to home" function.
Great footage of the crash from the air to water! GoPro rocks but i'm sorry about your plane. Now, what Tx/ Rx were you using? Were you able to isolate why it lost signal?

would you sugest the E-flite Eratix 3D 25 ARF as a good plane for a person wanting to get their first RC plane?
madjosh7 1 year ago
@madjosh7 The Eratix is not good for a first rc plane. It is classified as a 3D trainer - you definitely need good flying skills before trying one!
captando 1 year ago
@madjosh7 no, not really its extremely maneuverable. Go with the wild hawk and watch some RCPowers vids on Yourube
