  • @backshortly The 57 actually produces a TON of noise next to the other two mics. You're not alone. Before I had the presonus it was almost unusable on acoustic guitars. You can hear a lot of my recordings with it have a ton of noise. The pres on the firestudio are a good deal better though and produce less noise. The 57 is pretty quiet anyway and requires a lot of clean gain to get a good signal, if you want it to be quiet you'll need a really powerful preamp.

  • This was really, really useful! I use my SM57 on everything, acoustic guitar, vocals, amp and it just imparts this classic warm 70's vibe on all. Eq is the key to getting each to sit in the mix, and the 57 never gets brittle. Those golden age mics seem quite nice tho for a little extra sparkle. Thanks for sharing this- you are quite talented.

  • @audiotrax2000 Thanks for the kind words! I love my 57 on everything but acoustic guitars honestly, but to each his own.

  • Cool video! It's always interesting to hear different mics, along with different combinations and locations. I liked the FC4 sound the best.

  • @k14ce2002 Thanks so much! I spend a lot of time doing this, I figured it was time to make a video. Everyone likes different mics too which is really cool.
