This game was very controversial in it's day. Long before mandatory age ratings on computer games people complained that this game was too blood thirsty for children to play. It was the first time people demanded age restrictions on games arguing that the quality of the graphics are now sufficient to warrant it. Eventually some game producers used voluntarily ratings, but it took quite some years before it became mandatory, this was the first game however that lead things into that direction.

Never played that far. the end is so... lame ^^ Thosere were so fascinating times when you played games like barbarian, IK+ and you pit on the graphics cause the game's were so easy, simple and they were fun.. should take out my old amiga500 again ^^

There are not many Amiga games wich has such a cult status as Barbarian. I played it a lot, always alone, but it is much more fun if you are two players... It must be the shortest ending ever "Thanks big boy" that's all :)

Hehe, this game on the Amiga was fun back in the days. I've lost count on how many alcohol driven nights me and a few of my buds spent trying to chop eachothers head off in the game :D It's shit on singleplayer though, but in two-player it really shines.

You get your chance in the sequel: Barbarian 2 - The dungeon Of Drax. Though, being the sorcerer he is, the bad guy manages to get away once more.

It was brilliant on my CPC 464 when released, probably one of the most impressive 8 bits game. It sucked hard on the 16/32 bits machine imho, naive graphics, the blocky logo just can't match, the game looks like a poor remake, unprofessional

I remember we always got to this fucking sorcerer and every time I jumped, the game crashed and there was a message. I do not remember the message but it said something like "you can't play any further" the perfect climax for a game like this.

Great game, but holy shit, i was never able to end this game. Reason:

As soon the end boss's attacks hit me, the game crashed. Once I was able to hit the end boss and guess what happened: the game crashed. Looks like one of Microsoft's developers had their hands on this game. :)
