  • Thanks so much for this video!

  • the guitar seems too small for you or indeed vice&versa

  • what is meant by walking up to A minor and walking back up???? I get that he means play interim notes but what are they? Anyone help?

  • Question to those who understood all picking patterns, could you maybe explain it? I got lost with the C and F chords. I also wonder if he's using the 'normal' chords or also letting go one string like with the Am for the intro? It would help a lot, cause it's a very good video, I just don't manage to find a good flow trying to play it :) thanks in advance hehe @godhat you are awesome!

  • The writing on your guitar, what does it say?

  • @Moodo1

  • You speak French?Where speak French

  • You are english of American

  • I'm French,I don't speak not English I like guitare

  • guaaaooooo toca muy lindo muy a lo original y hermosa voz amigo saludos desde Ecuador y gracias por compartirla

  • hello! I'm not anglo-saxon and I can perfectly understand you no pb! the only thing I can't get is the names of the chords! I got "E minor" I think... but not the others... could you just right it to me please, en english?

  • I can't thank you enough for sharing this lesson.

  • thanks a lot for showing us all the songs, your a top man, thank you

  • great job, man. Enjoyed it. Must say u have great passion and a great voice !

  • Thank you for this informative video.

I enjoy the easy approach you show--and your voice, too!

Will give it a shot on my new classical Cordoba.

  • awesome tutorial man! I like how yours was explained easily and it was short some tutorials are like 10 min long or may have more then one video thanks!

  • Very good guitar lesson. I thought i knew how to play this song, but I was making it much more complicated than it needed to be. The finger picking on the first chord was always the problem, because way down the neck the chords that followed became difficult. . using capo and beginning with Asus2 chord makes the chord progression make sense. I had always tried this song sans capo, it is certainly possible, but not easy and not as good.

  • thanks for this tutorial.. very easy to understand

  • I have a classical guitar but I don't have the capo, how could I play that? can I play it on the first fret, without the capo?

  • Respond to this video... you can play it just fine with no capo, but the key change will be significant. If you can sing that low - fine or if you take voice up a full octave -fine also, gut capos are inexpensive and if your guitar has a neck that is to wide, which may be the case with classical guitar you can get a capo made for a 12 string.

  • i miss your gold hat gold hat , great lesson again tho !

  • thank you sir !!

  • i hate capo sucks !

  • Hi, Mark, can you please explain the right hand picking pattern for C and F chords. thanks a lot

  • @widk2007 @goldhat 3 I'm also a bit confused with the picking patterns after the 'intro'. I'm trying to tab this video to make it easier, would like to sent it to you for a check. But it would help a lot if you (or someone who does understand) could share what picking you used for the C and F chords. Thank you for uploading this video, I've also checked your website and I'm sure I can learn a lot from you!

  • fantastic vid, learned the song in 4:46 min

  • I think your great

  • Thx!

  • Cappo is also great on the first fret... expirment

  • I really enjoyed your lesson. I am a fan

  • Reminds me of that guy whos partners with ace ven tura in ace ven tura pet detective.. u know his translator. Anyway thx for the vid.

  • brilliant, thankyou

  • hi, im a beginner (i literally started almost a week and a half ago) and I've fallen in love with the guitar but I honestly have no idea how to play the F chord

    help please

  • @catalata123 okay press the 1st fret (bar) for the 2 last strings, the 2d for the 4th string and the 3d for the 3d string. ps the s1st string is the biggest at the bottom and the last string is the small one, in case you didn't know :)

  • @catalata123: I assume you've already figured it out, but just in case, there's a couple of ways to play it. Best to start with the "open" position (learn the bar chord version later): 11230XX. That means: play high E string@1st fret; B string@1st fret; G string @3rd fret, D string open; don't play A and low E strings. Practice, practice, practice and it starts to sound right. Good luck!

  • Play it on 6th fret and enjoy

  • bien compa, te voy seguir en tus lecciones, chido viejo

  • What kind of guitar is that?

  • way off man..

  • man hat der ne schöne stimme...*gänsehaut* super bin zwar deutscher, hab aber das meiste verstanden ;)

  • Thanks so much! You've taken a song that I thought would be too difficult for me and made it very manageable and enjoyable.

  • Hello Simon my old friend, I've come to sing your song again.

  • So do the chords rotate between Am, G, and C? I wish you would have explained more details about how to continue the song to the end. Thanks for the tutorial and I'll make sure to send a small donation on your way.

  • Wow......You are a good teacher.

  • respek

  • and touch the g chord of silence...

    great explanaition thanks

  • hmmm cant seem to get it to play, am i being a bit thick or is this vid down????

  • actually, there is none of that in this song :P

but walking down to Am and up to C as in this song, you do: 3rd fret, 2nd, open A string, and then use A minor chord, and the other way around for C: open A string, 2nd fret, 3rd fret, go to C chord simultaneously :)

  • thanks for the help, very nice explanation.. not too fast which was good

  • Thank you so much! :-)

  • thx, great lesson... I used to do it with a boring picking pattern... now it is way more interesting.

The only thing I still do different from you is that I stop playing the last G-chord after the G on the first string - lets the chord rest in a open way and is a good basis for singing sound.... of silence

(sorry, my english isn't very good, and especially not when talking about music, thanks anyway)

    greetz

  • You are the best teacher out there, you put it forward so simply its easier to learn. Thank You

  • thank you , this video is a big help . great instructions!

  • Love your instructions, I know it takes a lot of patience to not take off with it. Thanks for your illustrations. And I might add that you do have a good voice.

  • Thank you.

  • Excellent tutorial; but I must post that the title of the song is "Sound of Silence"...the word "sound" is singular; not plural.

    Again, excellent job!

  • that's not exactly right. It was originally titled "The Sounds of Silence" (look for scans of old LPs and the single, they prove it), but was called "The Sound of Silence" on later reissues and compilations. So both versions are somewhat correct.

  • Well then, a nice bit of trivia. Thank you.

  • great help, thanks

  • This was awesome. Really great version and you taught it really well :)Thanks alot. Keep em coming.

  • Hey. great videos man!

  • Very authentic sound and excellent lesson. Even though Simon wrote this song around '63-'64 and performed it with Garfunkel in their early Greenwich Village appearances, it didn't become a hit until early 1966 after Columbia Records producer Bob Johnson released a version in which he had added electric instruments to the acoustic track.

  • great help mam.

  • thanks for a great lesson!

  • Your a pro thanks man

  • very nice

  • Great effort, thanks for the video, it helped a lot.

  • excellent job, thanks

  • thank you so much! beats the hell out of tablature.

  • You are a dear friend! Thanks to you, I now know this - and it took all of five minutes. You're the best!

  • I came across your tutorial today and enjoyed it. Very good teaching of the song. You mentioned the year(s) it came out and I wanted to point out that this song was recorded in March & June of 1964 but not released until September of 1965. It became number one in January of 1966 and probably stuck in everyones mind as a Hit of 1966 only because they had huge success with other songs from 1966, tons of airplay and television. Keep rockin' cousin Goldhat3!

  • Oh my Gosh. You're a good teacher. Thumbs up and five stars Subscribed.

  • You're a great teacher. Greetings from Strasbourg, France

  • EXCELLENT TEACHER!!!

  • I enjoy the simplicity of your teaching. Keep the lessons coming!

    Cheers.

  • I want to learn from you, you are seriously talented!!!

  • Don't listen to what slugdownacoke1A says, this tutorial mught be the difference between someone learning to play guitar or not. Some people actually play for fun and aren't too interested in being the next John Williams.

If only ALL guitar tutorials were this simple and well communicated.

    A++++

  • Very good teacher!!!

  • W. Shakespeare, Romeo & Juliet:
