im going to get an ar in a while, i hear guys say "keep it well lubricated" are they just putting unnecessary emphasis on "well" or do you have to have it dripping in oil to keep it reliable? because i know oil attracts dirt and unburnt power and gums the firearm up. so do you just put a little light coating of oil like any other gun or do you have to make it excessive?
@567WORMBOY123 Dont listen to the hype and the rumors...people who say that an AR has to be perfectly clean and extremely well oiled in order to function are people who are usually big AK fans that are trying to make the AR sound like less of a weapon, when in fact it is superior. Oil an AR as much as you would any other weapon(very lightly) and you can run 1000 rounds through it with no additional oiling and you will have no problems at all. I own a Saiga AK and a S&W M&P 15 AR.
Users of the M16/AR15 platforms better be damn familiar with cleaning their rifles, and doing it constantly, otherwise the firearm craps out and becomes a jamming piece of useless junk. If you need a rifle to trust your life with, then its the AK47 FOR THE WIN!! AR15's = shelf queens FOR DISPLAYING IN THE RIFLE CABINET!! AK47 = ALPHA MALE KING that you CAN to trust your life with.
Thanks for the very helpful tips on cleaning my AR15, but I do have one issue and that's right in the beginning of this video. When you mention the fouling that builds up on the back of the bolt. the back end of my bolt(on the rim as you stated in video) had some really tough fouling that a brush was not able to remove and I even let it sit oiled and still is tough as nails to remove. You have any suggestions for me? I just don't feel AR15 is clean as long as all that fouling is there.. Thanks!

when you say "the rings are bad" i have a les baer super varmint..it has maybe 300 rouds down the tube..if i do the same -stand bolt on end, the bolt drops..i cant believe its worn out this new...could it be that les baer chromes all parts thus making them alot slicker?
I just purchased an ar15 and shot it last week. I took it apart to clean. Can you share on what part I should lube and how much lube should I use. Thanks...
@jamesbeach2 not true. A gun will do more damage over a greater lengt and in time. Less guns WOULD no matter what you say make gun crime go down. But....i do think everyone should be able to defend them self, and 1 rifle and a hand gun will do just that. Unless you are a hunter or have other special needs, 1 of each weapon will do just fine.
@pkbjorn35 Gun crimes would go down with less guns, but that wouldn't affect crime rates. People would be committing crimes, just with knifes, or crossbows, or rocks. Criminals do what they do because they cant do anything else, and or they are just fucked in the head. Taking away guns only hurts law abiding citizens. Plus even if you took them all away, they would come in from Mexico and Canada. Think about it, cocaine isn't made here, but its everywhere, and illegal. Criminals dont obey laws.
I have the govt issue cleaning kit for the Colt, but do i need tools for dissasembly, such as drift punches or bolt carrier scrapers, What do you suggest, Thanks
Guns don't kill people, people kill people. Its the same way with knives, baseball bats, cars, poisons, anything you can think of to kill someone. If you want someone to be dead than you will find a way if their are no guns. People decide what they are going to do, not the weapon they choose. If you handle guns like they are loaded at all times like you should than accidents will be prevented, not all but a majority. People need to think before they pool the trigger, Is their life at risk?
firearms are weapons. when you understand that simple fact you will understand why we need to defend our 2nd amendment freedom. the 2nd allows people to own weapons for their defense..not tools, not sporting gear...not hunting guns,...WEAPONS OF WAR called arms. truth be told, you have no constitutional right to own firearms not intended as or used for anything other then killing.
my bolt has alot of blue-green crud on the two ridges first mentioned in this video. The brush doesnt make it budge, do you use solvent or lubricate any of the bolt?
you can use the hard plastic handle of a brush to scrape that build up off the bolt. i say plastic because i have been told by more than one old gun nut not to use any metal on that part. and yes i do apply a reasonable coat of tri-care type lube to the bolt. any part that moves needs lube. but not greese.

Guns don't kill people! Do cars kill people? Hell no!
It's people who kill people. Taking away guns is like taking away cars, because a drunk got behind the wheel.
jamesbeach2 2 years ago 20
that why i dont keep people under my bed!
and i think you mean taking away guns is like taking all cars away because a few people got drunk and began driving

@jamesbeach2 I thought it was SUVs that killed people.

Its a firearm, not a weapon.

true true but in some case's it is considered a weapon cause it causes damage but i call it a AR-15 rifle. hahaha
chrisredfieldmrd6251 3 years ago
No its not.
My Ar15 isnt a weapon. I dont plan to use it as such. If i do, someone else would be forcing me to use it defensivly.
If this was a military video, THEN its a weapon. The USMC isnt teaching Marines and recruits how to plink at cans or run 3 gun matches.

You are right my AR-15 is not a weapon. I am the weapon my AR is just a tool....... LONG LIVE THE REPUBLIC!!!!!!

ya so is steak knife its not a weapon until its used that way

The word "arm," in this context, means weapon. Think "arms and armor." A firearm is simply a weapon that involves fire.
Now, that's just my simple etymology; if anyone here knows the true etymology of the word, I'd be very curious to hear it.
