I suppose the reason I did not just let the boat round up is I have seen boats rip their spinnakers in that case or at times be forced into a tack during the round up. We had a boat to leeward we were also trying to cover. We also had a 10 ft sea state which would have washed over the deck had we rounded up and I was not sure if the forward hatch was fully locked down. We were one the few boats that came out of this with boom, sail, and/or mast intact.
What boats you do sail on? And seriously what else is there to sail except for dingies and PHRF boatd...and iv sailed with some really good sailors and learned allot from them so i wouldn't be dissing my experience as a sailor if i were you.
Why didn't he stop fighting to keep the boat pointing down and just let it round up? From my own experience being on boats that have broached it seems to work better.
@pgihockey13 J 35, international 14 (A very high performance skiff, faster then 49ers), Aerodyne 38, C&C 33, Laser, 420, J24, Beneteau first 40, Pearson 39, J105, Dufour 40... Are you trying to see if I no what I’m talking about? Cuz i do. I no the skipper for the puma boat for the Volvo ocean race, personally too. He grew up at my club and i race against his dad every tuesday. What boats do you sail on? Laser Pico?
Try dumping the main next time, also ease the vang to induce twist and give you more power to keep the CE pushing forward instead of abeam.

Oh god, another boring PHRF drunkard. And too young to know better, too. That explains it all.

@vibratingstring What else is there except for dingies and PHRF? Nothing! and what does PHRF racer have to do with being a drunkard?
