Fish do suffer pain, that is why the we have a method called IKI JIME, google it! I take a gun fishing up north australia crocs and sharks are bloody huge up their, especially Montgomery Reef! hello the whale was being nice and gave you the bigger half must of been trying to make fiends with you so you wouldn't do anything stupid to them in the future. They were probably herding the salmon in your direction which allowed you to hook up in the first place. The whole thing was a kind and nice jesture just so you know. The final portion of the video is disgusting. Even though the fish is half gone, you should have put it out of it's misery and not let it suffer.

This is some what common around Vancouver island B.C. As a commercial fisher it was a competition to keep whales from following us. we would pull the gear and move around a bit they would loose interest in a bit. As for what I think of your buddy hes is a great sport good luck to him in his next whale fishin adventure
