For All We Know was our wedding song in 1975. I thought it so beautiful and appropriate. Karen's voice always had a way of drawing you into the song. She was an incredible talent and will never be equalled. The marriage didn't last, but the song, and many others, still bring tears to my eyes.
My favorite song of all time, "For All We Know" - and Karen Carpenter sings it fantastically. It was always "her" song, and I agree, she sings just like an angel. I loved this song so much, I had it sung at my wedding.
This is the very reason that Susan Boyle crashed so hard on the scene. People are hungry for real singers, not just those that can screech out loud, sustained notes, but can also sing subtle, complex music that is not only inspirational, but covers even those emotions and tones that are not so intense. People are really hungry for this music again.
Back then the Carpenters were one of few who produced gentle music. Remember how heavy metal and acid rock rules from the late 60s into much of the 70s?
Actually, the Carpenters were a strong contrast the wild, acid rock filled music of that time. They were in the minority and mocked by many. Which is sad.
I totally agree...I remember I liked the Carpenters when I was a teen in the 70's, and took a lot of verbal abuse...would endure it all over again, however...RIP, Karen.
This seems to be rare, in America anyway. Have the US dvds & Japan 1972 Laser but didn't know about this one. Was this ever released as a full show? Love the picture quality but don't know why it's in black & white being from 1972. Thanks for posting!
Why aren't there melodies like this nowadays....I love Karen's voice but who doesn't...if u have time have a listen to my Eurovision 2009 entry for Ireland its on my site.........
complretely agreed...she truy was the greatest singer of all time ...,male or female...dont care what anyone says,,,,no one can beat her and they never willl....shes the best love u karen
Even now, and this song was recorded when I was in junior high school (9th grade), I can only now appreciate what a remarkably talented singer and performer she was. The girl did not make mistakes, hit a bad note, never. She is like an angel singing on earth. I have a few years left, but don't believe I will ever find another voice like hers again. She never had formal training, she just sang as she played drums. We will may never find her kind again, at least not for a long time.
I sang lead in hard blues band for 15 years in the 60's and 70's doing Muddy Waters and Sonny Boy Williamson type stuff, but Karen was always one of my guilty pleasures. Such an angelic voice and so beautiful. A sad end to such a towering talent! I wish she was still here!
I doubt she could teach Britney, Madonna, Aguilera, etc. to sing considering the fact that they are not singers at all, but rather strippers who lipsync.
I'm gonna have to disagree about Madonna--"Love Don't Live Here," "Take a Bow;" still, she's no Karen Carpenter!! This performance is just--God, it's overwhelming.
I was so in love with Karen when I was seven years old in 1973. I'd look at her picture on the album covers from my mom's records and her voice just made me melt.
She sings so beautifully..Close to Me is one of my all time favorites. Isn't it funny how most of the singers of today can even hold a note when they sing live. Karen was a true talent!!
I was in high school and college when Karen & Richard were at their peak. How blessed I was to have been alive with her...and what a huge loss it was when she left us. Though I never met her, Karen is like family; and the Carpenters Christmas albums are part of our lives each season.
Thank you for this live posting. Karen sings "For All We Know" so expressively that it's amazing to consider she's keeping the beat for the song at the same time on her hi-hat.
Right! I was just thinking the EXACT same thing. Her singing includes a lot of delayed beats - and the high hat just keeps going exactly where it's supposed to go. It's like rubbing your tummy and patting your head with push beats or synchopation. My appreciation was huge back in the 70's and it's grown even more now that I'm older and know what this level of performing talent means.

Absolutely brilliant. Today's 'singers' should worship at her feet. And her drumming is superb! What a musician!
