  • Between Joe Osborn's bass and Karens voice I could just time travel to the best time in my life.

  • I wouldn't think this was live. WOW what a voice!

  • For All We Know was our wedding song in 1975. I thought it so beautiful and appropriate. Karen's voice always had a way of drawing you into the song. She was an incredible talent and will never be equalled. The marriage didn't last, but the song, and many others, still bring tears to my eyes.

  • makes me cry

  • My favorite song of all time, "For All We Know" - and Karen Carpenter sings it fantastically. It was always "her" song, and I agree, she sings just like an angel. I loved this song so much, I had it sung at my wedding.

  • Absolutely brilliant. Today's 'singers' should worship at her feet. And her drumming is superb! What a musician!

  • This is the very reason that Susan Boyle crashed so hard on the scene. People are hungry for real singers, not just those that can screech out loud, sustained notes, but can also sing subtle, complex music that is not only inspirational, but covers even those emotions and tones that are not so intense. People are really hungry for this music again.

  • OMG! This just made me remember how I loved lookin' at stars as a child, and now they are ALIVE!

  • wow...sound just like the studio recordings. i can never get enough of karen's voice.

  • I wish I couldve been there!

  • Wish I could have met her.

  • She is so beautiful in this concert...

  • The most beautiful soothing voice ever to be put on record.....timeless.

  • She's the best

  • her voice and singing is so effortless, legendary.

  • I love the live performance! Wonderful sound of her voice..

  • There are not enough adjectives in the English language to describe the glory that is Karen Carpenter.

  • thank u so much for uploading this....God bless.

  • Wow look at the Crowd! Love it ;) My favorites in one video :) PERFECT :)

  • even the orchestra leader was singing along on the "waas" at the end...she had the audience in the palm of her hands...

  • God I wish I could go back in a time machine and watch this concert!! What an amazing pure voice Karen had!

  • What a voice! you are truly missed....

  • Unfortunately they dont make music like this anymore! The music of today SUCKS!

  • If the audio is disturbing I always skip it. This...I just couldn't.

  • Back then the Carpenters were one of few who produced gentle music. Remember how heavy metal and acid rock rules from the late 60s into much of the 70s?

  • Excellent **********

    Thank Dreams281 for sharing

  • I do not know if a performance gets any better than that! KC's voice is perfect and the timing with the rest of the the group is spot on.

  • This is superb, was Karen ever in better voice?

...the venue is actually Melbourne's historic Festival Hall.

  • @cdaniels, look what you've done! Do my eyes deceive me or is that David Duchovny on guitar & singing in the 2nd half?

    Ah, I miss Karen C.!

  • @bumiputrax David Duchovny was about 12 years old when this was made . . .

  • the year i was born love it

  • Why is the orchestra conductor standing there and singing too? Weird...

  • Is it just me, or does the guy playing the clairanet, look like Chuck Norris back in the day?

  • LOL...that was a popular haircut for men that year...

  • wonderful footage, thanks!

  • Voice of an angel!!!

  • Thanks neroli for posting all this Carpenters concert footage, which we'd never be able to see anywhere else!

  • yeah i agree as what

bodaciouscowboy says, thank you very much

  • nice!

  • I still have to hear somebody sing as beautiful as Karen..Her voice is so unique...no equal!! Thanks for sharing..

  • Doubt you ever will hear anyone sing as beautiful as she did. I didn't like all their music sometimes, but god did I love her voice...simply amazing.

  • 1972 song........reminds me of someone who brought me heartache.

  • Karen had a voice that was one of the all time BEST!

    And is definitely missed...Absolutely beautiful!

  • I think at that time, they didn't have color tv in Australia back then...what I was told...

  • What happened to music? Back then it was so gentle and meaningful.

  • Actually, the Carpenters were a strong contrast the wild, acid rock filled music of that time. They were in the minority and mocked by many. Which is sad.

  • I totally agree...I remember I liked the Carpenters when I was a teen in the 70's, and took a lot of verbal abuse...would endure it all over again, however...RIP, Karen.

  • @skunkus1 I couldn't agree more!

  • @skunkus1 ...nothing? Pop is just worse. There's still tons of music like this.

  • In my opinion, best song they ever did.

  • This seems to be rare, in America anyway. Have the US dvds & Japan 1972 Laser but didn't know about this one. Was this ever released as a full show? Love the picture quality but don't know why it's in black & white being from 1972. Thanks for posting!

  • This reminds me of Junior high school.

  • This is just beautiful.

There´s really nothing more to say to it.

    Thank you for uploading this.

Karen Carpenter is / was one of a kind, unique.

  • Un-be-leiv-able. I was a junior in high school that year. This is like a time machine. Thanks for posting.

  • Beautiful voice. Reminds me so much of my childhood. Thanks so much for sharing.

  • Perfect.

  • Love her voice

  • Only great singers like Karen sing live as good as in the studio.

  • Uplifting voice...Love u Karen.....

  • God given talent. This was playing in my house growing up. Panasonic record/8 track player.

  • luv this video and the song so much...

ur my idol Karen and bro.ur music

stays in my heart as well as my special

some1 dont worry im gonna be there

do take ur time...luv u and God bless

  • thank you for posting this. look at her face, so beautiful. Fame was new and she was thrilled to be there. Fantastic.

  • Know one comes close to karen in my opinion, the greatest singer to ever live, male or female. we miss you karen.

  • complretely agreed...she truy was the greatest singer of all time ...,male or female...dont care what anyone says,,,,no one can beat her and they never willl....shes the best love u karen

  • She had the voice more sweet in the all word, She never died in my heart, her voice, her song never kied........

  • There just aren't that many pure voices out there with that kind of range. I put her up there with Mary Ford.

  • i love her hand gestures on the first song god she was so damn sexy and beutiful!!!!

  • why? why did you leave us so soon?

  • is she dead?

  • Yes. Feb 3, 1983.

  • She made the impossible possible.

  • to me she has the best voice of all time, and this is my favourite carpenters song , really emotional

  • Karen at her best!

A particular voice with a mix of freshness and maturity. We miss you ...

  • I am just so honored to have walked on this earth for 18 years while Karen was alive....

  • Even now, and this song was recorded when I was in junior high school (9th grade), I can only now appreciate what a remarkably talented singer and performer she was. The girl did not make mistakes, hit a bad note, never. She is like an angel singing on earth. I have a few years left, but don't believe I will ever find another voice like hers again. She never had formal training, she just sang as she played drums. We will may never find her kind again, at least not for a long time.

  • so beautifully stated and so true, sheky greene the Jewish comedian

  • Sheky very well written post on the great karen carpenter.

She is and and always will be the best female singer ever.

    She is flawless.

It's amazing she had no formal training.

    God bless karen.

  • I sang lead in hard blues band for 15 years in the 60's and 70's doing Muddy Waters and Sonny Boy Williamson type stuff, but Karen was always one of my guilty pleasures. Such an angelic voice and so beautiful. A sad end to such a towering talent! I wish she was still here!

  • Truly one of music's best!

  • I don't understand the charge that they were wooden on stage--her stage presence is phenomenal.

  • I would like to see Richard release some of the live recordings.

  • The best singing drummer ever !

  • I doubt she could teach Britney, Madonna, Aguilera, etc. to sing considering the fact that they are not singers at all, but rather strippers who lipsync.

  • I'm gonna have to disagree about Madonna--"Love Don't Live Here," "Take a Bow;" still, she's no Karen Carpenter!! This performance is just--God, it's overwhelming.

  • well put!

  • karen...the angel voice...till now I can't get the woman singer who sang like her...she's so...super...right?

  • I was so in love with Karen when I was seven years old in 1973. I'd look at her picture on the album covers from my mom's records and her voice just made me melt.

  • Divina!!!

  • She sang better than Britney Spears, Madonna, Aguilera, etc. etc.

  • It's a shame we don't have her around anymore. Karen could teach some of these singers now a day to sing correctly.

  • Awesome performace! Thank you for the posting!

    Stew

  • I don't have words to tell how beautiful are her voice, her soul, everthing that came from her. Now she's singing to God in the paradise.

  • beautiful . . .

  • She sings so beautifully..Close to Me is one of my all time favorites. Isn't it funny how most of the singers of today can even hold a note when they sing live. Karen was a true talent!!

  • She's very beautiful.

  • I LOVE THAT WOMAN................

  • How can you not fall in love with Karen when she sings Close To You! AMAZING!!!

  • It's nice to see Karen behind her drums!

  • I was in high school and college when Karen & Richard were at their peak. How blessed I was to have been alive with her...and what a huge loss it was when she left us. Though I never met her, Karen is like family; and the Carpenters Christmas albums are part of our lives each season.

  • Fantastic footage of Karen early in her career, still behind the drums on some songs. Thanks much for sharing.

  • Very nice stuff!!!!!

It's curious to notice that Karen looks like white-snow in the middle of 7 dwarfs who form the group!!!

  • Fantistic, unbelievable, where do you people find this stuff. Keep it up! Awesome!

  • I felt that the Carpenters literally kept America together because of their very popular music that truly entertained.

1970 otherwise didn't have such great news.

  • Thank you for this live posting. Karen sings "For All We Know" so expressively that it's amazing to consider she's keeping the beat for the song at the same time on her hi-hat.

  • Right! I was just thinking the EXACT same thing. Her singing includes a lot of delayed beats - and the high hat just keeps going exactly where it's supposed to go. It's like rubbing your tummy and patting your head with push beats or synchopation. My appreciation was huge back in the 70's and it's grown even more now that I'm older and know what this level of performing talent means.

  • cheers mate, this is great, keep 'em coming.

    weren't they great!!

  • thanks for the songs! please pray for us here!

  • I am so glad this was uploaded again since someone keeps erasing it. A lot of thanks to you neroli8676! Could you please upload Hurting Each Other from the same concert too?

  • You're welcome. I uploaded Hurting Each Other!!

  • How could you NOT fall IN love every time you see this!!!

  • wonderful!
