Holy crap... It's ridiculous to see how much has changed since then. I was only 4 back then and I can vaguely remember my family coming down for a home game that year. Long's Book store closed a couple years ago, but the sign's are still there, Progressive Audio, the McDonald's and the Huntington bank are about the only other things that are still there today... it's crazy how much Columbus has boomed in the last 25 years.
I turned 4 in october of 85 other than one or two yrs of my life ive lived in columbus or other parts of ohio but mostly columbus and I have a hard time remembering what the city looked like back then in the mid eighties but u taped it so i can see it now thanks
I see these people walking around and wonder hmm...I wonder what their up to these days? Maybe I'm just weird, but you see people just living their lives in a videotape and I wonder how much their lives have changed since they were recorded back then.
Trippin' dude!!! I was 16 then. I remember the hair like those gals in the ally had. I was all over that mo' fo' a couple years after this was taken. Dig those retro cars.
What I want to know was how did you fit that camera in the car??? LOL
WOW! This is amazing. Everything is so different. McDonalds was only one floor and you could drive straight on to the oval from 15th. No Wexner Center...awesome video.
Just a head's up Ray, the video gets laggy and looks like a painting after about 2:25. Not sure if it's YouTube's doing or faulty equipment but I thought I'd let you know.
yep. when I get my desktop up and running, I'll have a compliment to this video. You've spawned a good idea into a great idea in my head. THanks for that.
My God, is that funny....I worked for the McDonald's on HIgh St., across from OSU....and I think we used Shamrock to tow cars that were parked in our lot illegally! SMALL world!!
Columbus has change soo much. new people move there and then there is diffrent generations that change the views. I miss the good old days I grew up around Livingston and fair wood i used to walk to fair wood elm school everyday can't do that now days without an pervert trying to hump your kids . What happen Columbus is going down so fast it's ashamed. I hate it soo much now. Too much b.s. there. WTF why is there soo many immigrant that populated there. That ashamed cols is going down.
Holy shit, that's how High St looked 20 years ago? Incredible. You can't even drive down it now with all the traffic. Also, it's almost nothing but gays now. And all those streets around the University are so run down and trashy now.
lol, did you know you wold be putting this on youtube in 23 years? lol, like the word even existed back then! lol. Different time back then, nice job.
i've been living in cols since 1993...the campus area has changed even more since this vid was made...i was surprised to see that you used to be able to drive into the oval...those apts these guys used to live in are still there...i used to live on w 8th ave as well...
I was a student from 1995-1999. Interestingly, this video doesn't look much different from what the area looked like in 1995, but by 1999, the south had started to radically change and now is nothing like this.
I lived in Columbus for 20 years. Columbus is clean, culturally diverse, a commuters dream, has a low crime rate and reasonable cost of living. My only complaint was not seeing the sun from November to March because of cloud cover coming down from Lake Erie during the winter.
Great video... I never knew that 15th actually went across High Street to the end of The Oval, the Wexner Center for the Arts is there now. It's funny, I live on West 8th and was saying, "no, you can't turn right on West 6th, it's a one way!" haha. Great stuff though. The Bierstube still exists by the way, one of the very few south campus bars that wasn't run out when the South Campus Gateway was built.
The South Campus Gateway is a collection of apartments, resturaunts, movie theaters, and bars that has completely altered pretty much everything south of 12th and High. It wasn't there when I was at OSU, but I saw it last Fall, and I really wish it had been. It's really, really nice. I couldn't help but laugh at how many times you mention how that area was remodeled and changed when you shot this, because it looks nothing like that these days. Great vid, though.
wonder what type of cellphone this was shot on...

Yeah, but not as many nor were they nearly as obnoxious and loud mouthed as they are now.
I'm gay myself, I can't stand the short north because it's all stereotypical faggots.

Anyone remember Bernie's bagels? There was a little bookshop on the second floor of that building. Can't remember it's name.
I've only been back to High Street a few times in the past 20 years. I barely recognize it now. Sad.

its more modern, it looks like a store in NYC now, more so than an old fashion Mcd's reasturant.
Do you still live in Columbus?
