@northlanderdude The first clip is where it crosses the CP along Lasalle Blvd (71). I should have stated it was heading to Frood Mine, and not Falconbridge. The second clip is at the CP connection at Levack. Thanks for watching. Jackmp294.5...
Greetings from Great Britain. This has to be the best bit of film I have seen of steeple cabs in action. They were quite a rarity in GB, although Westoe Colliery in South Shields had several differant models of varying sizes. I seem to have developed an interest in these strange machines recently so many thanks for posting. Is it my imagination or did some of those road vehicles run the lights? Anyway; more please!
@4beatlefans Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it. In Canada, new cars come with daylight running lamps. They come on automatically when the car is started. It is basically for safety, as they are easier to see coming at you with the headlamps lite. They have been doing it for several years here in the states also. I will have to edit some more of these. They where very interesting, and a powerful little locomotive. Thanks for watching.
@4beatlefans Sorry; I've confused you! I mean 'run the lights' as in ignoring the warning lights on the crossing (or 'Grade' I think you call it?) 'Running the lights' in GB means to go through a 'red'.
I see what you mean though, apparantly we will be adopting this across Europe soon. I think it was Greyhound buses that started doing this years ago, and Volvo (the Swedish car manufacturer) had a 'day-time running lights' which were like very bright side-lights.
Those steeple cab electric locomotives apparently are bigger (as seen up close) and more powerful than they appear. In fact, that was quite a load of cars being pulled in that first shot despite them being empties. When did INCO discontinue their electrics and how long ago?
Don't know the horse power on these little gems, but I have seen many times, one electric take a loaded ore train uphill from Lavack to the interchange. The electrics have been gone for at least 6 or 7 years now, and photographed 2 SD40-2's and this year, 3 GP40-2's pulling the same train... Thanks for looking. Jack
We Used to run the same Locomotives at Kennecott Copper in Bingham Canyon Utah.
