I wonder if anyone ever swapped out the 2.2's Carb and ignition system for the Dodge Chargers Turbo Fuel injected system. The Dodge Shelby Charger had the same engine and was basicly just a sports version of the Omni/Horizon. You would have a rocket in disguise.
I have a 1988 red Plymouth Horizon. Got it a month or so ago for $450. It's rusty and a little crooked but it runs great. I'm so proud of it. It also kicks butt in the snow!!!!
My family owned a red Horizon. We got about 130K miles out of the car. The depress button on the automatic shift would rattle away when the car reached 60 mph. Loud as hell!!! May it rest in peace. : )
People like to run down cheap cars like this and say they were no good. SInce people didn't pay a lot for them, they didn't spend a lot maintaining them. So their "crappy" quality became a self-fulfilling prophesy. When you spend $70,000 on a new BMW, you take it to the dealer for regular service. But these cars were driven hard and put away wet - and they all went to the junkyard long ago. But, they once ruled the highways. Early models even had a VW Rabbit engine! Great shape!
@JoeIthaca your right about vw rabbit engines chrystley re did the body style of the rabbit ull find that out if you google dodge omni and plymouth horizon. if im not mistaken the 79 thru 81 had the rabbit engines in them but also in 81 chrystler came out with the 2.2 and some 81 models had the 2.2 in them
i might get one a 1988 Plymouth horizon someone just wants to get rid of so iam offering 100$ lol it has all red interior and extriror i don't know how it runs though
@jakesaintsrow123 i had an 88 omni with a the tbi 2.2 non turbo and that this was a beast in the snow and on the highway would float down the highway i used to blow the doors off a coworkers ford escort lol he could catch me nor keep up with me lol
hahah....Awesome...My Bro had an 87 Omni.....and He beat the CRAP outta that Poor car....it was the exact same Color inside/Out as this 84 horizon.....These were Great cars ...My brothers Omni was a reliable little car...He would always Redline it at stop lights....ETC....it was Loud to...Exhaust got ripped off when he back outta the drive way in winter lol ...It was a 2.2l auto....Mine is a First Year....(78) and is in Great shape.....144,000 KMS....Mine is Blue..has the 1.7l VW engine....auto
@jakesaintsrow123 my uncle had an 79 ith the vw engine in it was auto also my 88 was auto aswell . i also knew a guy who raced and amni at the local drag strip haha he built this one tho lol it had a 3.0 ltr v6 from a mini van in it that car was a monster fast as hell . the engine and tranny wher stock nothing done to them he did cause he wanted to see how an omni would be with a v6 instead of the 4 cyclender
This is actually a "Special Edition" Plymouth Horizon. So it received special chrome bumper and grill accents, chrome mirrors on both sides of the car (regular editions just received a black mirror on just the drivers side), silver trim package, special bucket seats with built in lumbar support, arm rest and tray built into the stereo console.
