  • i would think those starters would overheat. they are meant to start a car within a few seconds. video is proof it works, nicely done

  • what is the battery ah and and the wattage of the motor and voltage. specs please.

  • Brillant ,good recycling of used parts anyone in the world can have a electric bike without spending lots of money .Third world counties have the materials at hand to power a bike or trike.

  • what is starter out ov

  • I built a Gas powered one but ma fat american butt is to much for it. my 17 yr old can get 48 mph out of it, I only get 37 or so

  • Either way it is hufzilitacular

  • Hufzilla...love it!

  • I've made almost the same bike, but I used an additional reductor 28:1

I switch the motor on, only when going uphill.

  • That is absolutely AWESOME,

Typical that an AUSSIE would find a cheaper, easier recycling way of making an electric bike --------- well done :o)

  • Looks like a deathtrap with all those bare wires and a loose SLA.

  • Lol, I found myself concentrating on the water bottle, wondering how it cools the starter motor, only to think that it's for drinking...

  • how long can it go on a single charge ?

how goes it cope with hills ?

  • that's cool tell me how can I get my bike too do that

  • Wind blows your bike over, you're going to have busted battery acid EVERYWHERE. You need to mout two batteries on either side as close to the ground as reasonable, below the axles. NOt way up there at seat level.

  • Are telling me you built a time machine... out of a Huffy?!?

  • Maybe you could get a controller from an old scooter somewhere. How long does that battery last?

  • Maybe you could get a controller from an old scooter somewhere...

  • cool wold love to get a police chase

  • That's pretty impressive, But unfortanatly my bike got stollen. Not only do I not have a bike, but I also don't have the money right now to do what you've did, which isn't that hard, just takes patience, and a lil know how. Nice Bike Man.

  • dude how much long your battery keeps?

  • @MrHiphopdoctor You mean how long does your battery last.

  • Comment removed

  • Exceptionally good for being made of junk parts, but is only the "fastest electric bike" on your street...

  • Thats awesome !!!!!!!!!!!!

  • i want one

  • Boy Dang this Electric Bicyle here is way Faster then my Via Lento Electric Bicyle Dang some thing else here. 8-29-11.

  • Fyi, its not a bike if it does not get pedaled to propel the thing. without pedals it counts as a moped/motercycle. like you said in title "motorbike"

  • @cheezecake2000 motorbike or motorcycle not moped.... a moped is a MOtorized PEDal bike

  • how did you mount the sprocket to the motor?

  • how long does the bike last on a charge

  • Wouldn't you want pedals to rest your feet on?

  • How far on a charge? How long to charge in full?

  • I can't imagine that little starter motor lasting very long with constant use like that. but pretty cool none the less.

  • how did u compusate (sory my spelling sucks ) for thr rear wheel travle with out poping the chain when u hit a bump

  • That's faster than my gas bicycle

  • did you weld the spocket on that starter? where did you bet the sprocket?

i have a panasonic bike with a free wheeling front pedal assemply. this will allow me to keep the pedals on the bike.

  • How long does the battery last? How do you recharge it?

  • @hangshan1 Uhh..... A battery charger????? Hello????? Jesus Christ get it together man.........

  • Hi

Can u pls tell me which motor did u use 4 this trike and also something bout the battery how much speed u attained at an average and what is load carrying capacity of this trike.

    Ur reply is awaited

  • A saw no real mph at all.

  • about 80000 Watts?

  • firstly its not the worlds fastest electric bicycle.. and it wouldnt be good offroad, it would fall apart, but for a cheap commeter ebike it looks alright, also how do you charge it?

  • Simon looks so gay in that video... Where was I?

  • very nice bro

  • that cant be a very smooth drive. add a pwm module, $20.99 for a 30 amp one off ebay. it would be like having a throttle.

  • how long did it take to build?

  • How much does e-unit totally (motor, battery, brackets, gears..) weigh?

How does it interfere with handling the bike, on high speed and swerving?

Do u use this bike as utility personal vehicle?

If u do, what would u change?

  • whats the motor?????

  • Holy cranking amps!

  • whats the top speed? thats great man

  • How did you attach the chain cog to the starter motor? Also, what type of cog did you use on the starter motor? Awesome project, I love DIY bodges!

  • starters heat up in like 1 min ....that batt is also not made to rapidly discharge , they tend to blow !....whats the range 100 yards !....lmao....try not to kill yourself on that death trap dude !...peace

  • I've GOT to try sumpin like that!

  • HAXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

  • is it ballenced properly if not it wobble like a bitch at high speed u need proper weight distrobution on each side of thebike to get a good ride

  • Very attractive. Looks like you went to goto the store to buy a battery for your car stuck at home.

  • any problems with the starter motor over heating or burning out? I am planning on making one with a starter also.

    thanks

  • Every time I see someone driving a gas powered car, it's like they are driving around with their ass cheeks spread open to the wind polluting it.

  • @Blackwater200 are you serious??? fucking idiot....

  • hey there good looking bike just wondering have you broken any spokes yet my main concern by your design would be a few problems one no peedles so the moter would have to rip the crap out of the back wheel from the get go and your other problem would be no good for open road as would be illegal other than that sweet ride

  • what speed controller are you use, where to get one?

  • Rocks!

  • good work !!!

  • Does the starter get over heated? Starters aren't usually listed as 100% duty cycle.

  • I want to see you taking it off some sweet jumps.

  • Comment removed

  • making all that dust wasn't necessary. don't show off, that ruins the whole vid.

  • Good job. That's very cool !

  • what kind of range do you get out of it?

  • @NateLeePhillips and how do you charge it?

  • @NateLeePhillips with a car battery charger

  • No much, 30 min at most, and thats not on full time acceleration

  • Top Gear! Awesome!

  • I've followed your " E bike recipe" and have questions regarding the hookup of the startermotor ,need a little more detail please how you tackled it

  • can you recharge the battery by braking?

  • Too top heavy. dangerous.

  • @btester1 i believe the person on the bike makes more difference to the weight spread by far than an addition such as a battery.

  • alright enough of the rear spinning of the ground, showoff. we get it. thumbs down because you don't explain anything about the bike.

  • Well built your bike.I will vote more to put all that in puch trailer with free whell. That would nt of destroy your bike.Regards Ben

  • I just have to salute u for creating that...i wil try my hand at it mAYBE SUMMER USING A 700C road bike..

  • Nice bike man!....Put the gay ass oil industries out of business

  • @camaroiroc85350 and chemical suppliers in power so they can take over?

JK, it would be good to find better batteries though.

  • good tune great video I want to build my own I have one from walmart but for some reasion it just dont seem fast enough if you know what i mean so I"m going to build a costom trike that is all electric and you are using a starter motor and what was it from.

  • do u have a manual or do it yourself instruction? I wo uld like to build one of these.

  • @ElsHouse There was no manual, i was at a junk yard one day and saw the parts i would need and built it from there. Amazingly it worked first go with no testing or changing the design

  • i can go faster on my normal bike lol

  • That might be cool to add into a stock e-bike, as a kind of "turbo" function. :))

  • The only problem I see is that it has a horrible sound. How much power are you putting through that poor 3 hp (im guessin) starter

  • @mrfordfan Lots of power, to much power

  • im building one simmerler to yours but mine is using a wheelchair motor (100rpm ish) belt drive to the other side of the peddle bit so i still have 18 gears !!!!

  • Wow. I just shit my pants watching this. Liquid, foul, stinky diarrhea all over the fucking place. Y U M M Y. :-)

  • @waterfordjim HAHAHAHA.

  • @waterfordjim wtf

  • rwa rwa rwa red neck looks honorableness.

  • *****

  • hot stuff man... great work.....

  • Well done! It looks like a similar system to the one I'm making. The only difference is I'm putting the battery between the chain ring and front tyre to keep the c of g low.

  • Im looking to make a electric powered bicycle and was wondering how well does the starter motor hold up, lots of people say they will burnout in about a month of hard use. Im looking for long term use power assisted bike to avoid buying gas and also be eco friendly.

  • nice bike and fast !

  • u can rig altenator to charge battery?

  • @65mustanggeorge

    remove the bendix

  • how does it work becuase the starter motor goes out then back in when it startes the truck

  • make a video about all the wiring and stuff. and what battery type? and stuff like dat. give us a walk through.

  • hey nice job! did you keep the bike's rear wheel gear changing system? and could you change gears properly? cheers

  • It will be a thing of beauty to put that battery a lot lower to bring down the center of gravity! that will make it a lat safe in the event of a CAT aSSS trophic crash! don't you think so? never the less you don't have to think about stinking safety!

  • ummmm i built better but good job anyway how about hooking up a train horn to get even more attention hehehe and umm lets see.........................o when ur going down hill turn it off so u reverse the current and charge the battery!!

  • this guy has a video called "water cooled car starter electric bike"

    check it out

  • you should make a bike with a motor on a back wheel so you could have pedals ant motor in one bike;D

  • While the world gets wasted away on oil, these guys are getting 0.4 cents per mile!

  • has anyone ever posted a vid on u tube of one of these bikes going up a hill? or do you all live in flat places?

  • I hate to brake it to ya, I highly doubt this is the worlds fastest electric bicycle. The cyclone is probably faster since it uses 2 1000w motors. I also know a guy on here who has traveled 96km/h with a hub e-bike, surely some have done more but this was recorded. Efficient systems meant to handle loads for longer. Starter motors are easy to come across and very affordable. My first was with a big wiper motor which saw its day pretty quickly. lol

  • concidering it was cheap then it the cheapest e bike i like it

  • Nice speed! I would hate to even think about if/when that front chain breaks and could come flying up at you.

  • 10 numara

  • You should make another with a walk through and step by step for everything you will need to know. That would be a great weekend project :D

  • Nice video. Have you considered investing in a lithium ion battery (over lead-acid)? Also, regenerative braking would be an interesting feature, for it, as well. You sound "mechanical enough", to come up with any number of interesting improvements. One thing is certain: the "price was right", as we say, here in the States.

  • i think you shouldent go any faster that that with that gear you have cuz most likly a huffy bike gear wont hold any faster that that and the teeth will strip off

  • Can U make a video of all the layout of the wiring you did to the bike? THanX Juan

  • i always have trouble finding sprockets to fit on my starters! great job though man(:

  • From top speed, how many feet does it take you to stop ?

  • Nice bike mate!

  • I love Hufzilla. Iam building ebike from rc bike parts, but seems starter would be great. :D

  • that bike is awesome i want one

  • Thats awesome man! Better still your a fuckin aussie!! :D

I gotta make myself one of these..

  • that is AMAZING!

  • Does the starter motor get hot? have you tried a deep cycle battery?

  • COOL

  • Great project, very easy to implement, starter with solenoid practical e cheap, only question is what is the range and how long lasts the battery if you have to charge it every night at 2 amp?

  • how many speed control,,,

    one or vary

  • its not the fastest, you can go about 75kmh

  • really cool :)

  • whats the longest duration it can run befor it melts.

  • It's real easy to tell a person to use the top of the line parts, like battery, motor, brushless vs brush, and so on, especially when it's not comin out of your pockets, but dang guys, this looks fun exactly the way it was made to be.

You just can tag a wrong or right to having fun.

  • Go Kiwi!

  • interesting, but not clever. a starter motor isn´t the right motor for such projects. (to many amperes, not made for long runnings!!! only a few seconds) you would have a better result with a brushless motor.

  • a brush less motor needs a special speed controller. You obviously do not know what you are talking about so why even try to cut him down? You are right a starter motor is not the best motor for this, but for $5 it works.

A brush less motor this powerful would cost atleast $500 and the speed controllers would cost much more than that. A brush less motor for a little RC car or plane can cost hundreds of dollars let alone one big enough to carry a person.

  • @whiskers123 -

You're right that brushless speed controls can be expensive, but equivalently powerful motors aren't necessarily $500. Look up the HXT-130 - upgrade the bearings, add glue to the magnets and you're in business.

Also, it's possible to cheaply add hall sensors to these cheap-ish outrunners and use cheap brushless sensored controllers.

  • you need a deep cycle battery youre gonna ruin that one

  • yeah i can see needing a supply of starter motors they wont last to long running at full power.and the sound ! man thats gotta be loud.

  • Its awesome, i've used a radiator fan motor and modified it to use it for e-bike. its been 4 years now and its working fine. i'm using my creation to take me to office and back. its doing quite well. Yours is very simple and parts readily available in the market but its not reliable and durablei guess. Any way nice job well done.

  • @Numberonebikeslover can you send me plans on your radiator fan bike

i have some would like to build me one

what do you use for throttle

    where di you get selenoid

    thanks

  • Thanks man!! Loved the speed !!

  • what's the name of that motor

  • F***ing WMG, every good video, ruined, i end up turning on itunes to hear something

  • Is that a Pb-battery?

  • really cool!!!!! im trying to make a chainsaw powered bike :P

  • thats cool men.. but i think you have xtra kgs on ur back {batteries} when ur going on a semi hills nd low batteries occur.. you should try the lipo batterries.. hehehe but ur cool i have also ebike check mine ..

nd throw me some words tnx

  • Neither that type battery nor the starter motor were designed to run more than seconds at a time. A deep cycle battery would last much longer so I suggest getting that type when this one gives out.

  • AUSSIE AUSSIE AUSSIE GO GO GO LMAO Thats a fkin pearler i had a petrol 1 with a Sthil FS86 spinnin me wheel & didnt i have fun, looks deadly though but fk it id ride it

  • Seriously man...chain guard or lose a foot ;)

  • oh, it,ll get hot. in a higher gear that motor will be pullin some amps and heat up. alot. i'm workin on an a 10hp dc elec motorcycle.and it ain't cheap. i'm impressed with the low build cost your bike. i think i may have gone the wrong direction. thank you for the great idea.

  • What kind of truck did that starter motor come from and where did you get it?

  • How fast do you think it goes?

    or have you clocked it?

  • Does the propel water give the car extra Electrolytes?

    jk

    Very nice im jealous!

  • please make a vid on how to make it

  • that's pretty cool man! so do you find switching gears difficult?

  • electric bikes r great.i like the phoenix hub motors.i put one on a sun bike and it goes 22 mph with no peddling for 25 miles before i need a recharge.

    have fun

  • Comment removed

  • Fascinating! very powerful

But: how long will live/withstand your starter motor in a such heavy duty mode of opetration?!! Look, starters work in cars for mere seconds, not minutes, nor hours. It is not the motor for long time operation, IMHO.

And the second is the question about its efficiency. it is not only an issue of energy saving (from accum) but rather issue of motor overheating.

  • very fast but why u dont have any speed controller ??

  • thats nothing!!!!! i stole a gas one of thous i had it for aa month went 45 would own that thing i stole from the right person teehee but i got cought

  • smile.. that surely has some potential.. well done folks..

  • You really shouldn't fill our heads with these sorts of ideas. I just know I'm going to do something dangerous now. Keep building! Nice work.

  • I like it! It just need some foot pegs and a chain guard, couple of angle pieces should be good.

  • that is really nice. i doubt that bicycle helmit will save your head if a bearing seizes up. overall, that is a nice simple lite set up. good job.

  • Can you please draw up a guide how to build one of these???

For all of us who want to get rid of our cars and be truly eco friendly!! :D

  • will it go much faster without breaking the chain because of all the torque

  • That is one awesome project

  • that is great work mate

  • awsome well done!! who needs controlles and that sort of stuff ;D

  • my uncle welded me a gocart together out of aluminum and steel bars and put a car seat and then put a car starter in it but my grandpa sold it and i never got to drive it : (

  • kool. i like it.

  • Sorry I meant, 950MCA, it is gel deep cycle

  • thats bad ass and i want one

  • Fastest "Starter motor" electric bicycle I've ever seen. That must not go very far as a starter motor draws huge current! the smallest I've seen was "rated" 1000w, 1kw and it was pretty small! Also, how can you use your rear shocks with a back rack like that? I've seen one that went 56km/h, nice work! Really loud =)

  • Ive riden it around for 20min or so and the battery was still ok, probally wouldnt go for much longer then that im guessing. Ive designed it so the battery rack and the rear swing arm move as one peice, this allows the bike to keep its rear supension.

  • I'm sure that the batteries were below half after 20mins. I see what you mean now by the back rack. That's pretty impressive and it looks suprisingly strong too! I have never seen something like that rack. Do you feel the weight shift in the back? Have you seen my bikes? I have one where there "was" a battery in the back rack but I changed it and like it better that way. How heavy is that battery just wondering? Must be around 15-30lbs given that its 550cca. I hava a 950cca geltrying to sell it.

  • how did you get the sproket on to the motor, did you have to take it apart or somehitng?

  • no need to take it apart. I just centered the sprocket on the starter motor drive shaft and welded it there.

  • @meepsgood, it's a fine job, and I wondered how you got the chainring to freewheel?

Guys, =any= electric motor of the sort to be used here, basically, only draws power in proportion to the work load. "1,000W" only means that the motor is =capable= to dissipate the waste heat caused by a 1kW power consumption (high load, like going up a long hill). A motor will only draw a hundred Watts or so at jogging speeds on level ground.

  • =everything depends on the load=

  • cover all the wires with electrical tape. look nicer feel safer.
