Nobody is better than etta james. The only artist Ive heard that comes close to sounding as good as her, on her songs, is adele. beyonce isn't a bad singer, but her voice doesn't carry that deep rooted soul that etta's tunes require. My opinion.

Musical styles change over the years. Whe Etta James sang this Beyonce's mother (Tina) was a little girl probably in elementary school. 2010 has seen hundreds of changes in music since then. Perhaps, we should be amazed at how powerful this woman's voice was back then. Can you imagine listening to this song in the fifties?

@houghforensics hmm I can understand how the inauguration situation would be considered disrespectful, but generally; beyonce singing this song & at last has not been a negative thing. She constantly gives etta credit & talks about how inspiring & legendary Etta is. That beyonce sang an etta james standard at what beyonce calls one of the biggest moments of her life, in my opinion, shows an incredible amount of respect for etta & it was appropriate for the occasion as well. (ALL MY OPINION)
