Well, my friend, usually 81 is used as bridge pickup and for rhythm, 85 is usually used as a neck pick up for solos and feelings.. At least thats how i use it when i play metal
The 85 "In the Bridge" position ? Sears & Blows Away The 81. Check it for yourself.
An 85/85 combo CRUSHES !!! The 85 "is" the far more powerful pickup. The 81 is "Over-Distorted" to the point of masking notes. The 85 ? WAY MORE POWERFUL, Rides the Razor's Edge in either position & you can actually "hear the notes better".Me & the 81 have divorced ! My opinion of course.
Thanks for answer dude! Btw, how do I know if I got the older version of EMG pickups? Because I already bought one and it all comes with wires. How do I know the older version?
@rickrode143 If the wires are directly inside the pickups, then it's the older version. If there are connectors and the pickups, it's the new one. Enjoy (:
@Blowmint They are both active pickups. Active are powered by battery while passives don't. I think EMGs are worth the hassle of installing, and you should try them too!
hey man i have this guitar but i want to change the pickups so i decided to buy the zakk wylde pickups set...it's difficult to change the pickups on this guitar??
@kalaos8614 Although some people might still be telling you to give it up because it is hard, dont give up! It is actually easy, but the only problem I faced was that I need to use the shorter shaft pot and I think that is only the problem. Otherwise, everything is as easy as installing a passive pickup. Oh and the battery. I put it at the back where the pots and jacks are, and at the side. There seems to be sort of a hole in there and I stuffed the battery with a bit of a force. Good luck!
@007bindo yep that was me playing. Did you mean the clean part or the distorted one? And no, I don't play maple anymore, that was like 3 or 4 years ago..
Did it all fitt in to the epiphone les paul special 2 ?

It was cool of you to make this video, but it is very difficult to hear what it really sounds like due to the poor Youtube audio quality.

@rickrode143 It is the old version of EMG, so yeah, I soldered them to the pots. DO NOT solder the ground.
