  • @narancshun oh i didn't know auto's couldn't do that (fast shifting btw)! is that the same for all turbo autos? Also is that stock exhaust at the start? I'm about to get an s70 t5 and want it to sound like this! cheers

  • if u dnt know wat a MBC is u should do alot of research before u try and use one or u end up with engine soup.

  • hey man i just got a 97 volvo 850 from a buddy for real cheap and just did the headgasket and timing belt, looking to do some performance mods and you give me some tips and perhaps point me to the best forum for the 850? i already have 18's 55w 10,000k hids and no muffler, its automatic thats the only problem, im looking to do an ecu upgrade and turboback obx exhaust. let me know if you have any tips

    MBC stands for Manual boost controller.

  • You need to get rid of the very restrictive cat and downpipe if you want to really open it up and gain some real power.

  • you're absolutely right..however, I was impressed by the change of the car's behaviour. I had to adjust the boost controller, bc it overboosted really hard and hit the fuel cut every time I went WOT. And it feels like it has more torque @ lower rpm... But yes, I'm going to make a 3" turboback.

  • I got the OBX turboback and love it.You cant beat the price and it comes with 2 downpipes.You can get it from 2kracing for about $416 shipped.3inch to 2 1/2 inch.Sounds great too.

  • Yeah I know the OBX system, really good price. The only downside is, I can't buy it in Europe.. and the shipping costs for a full 3" tbe would hurt..

  • you can get it on eBay. type in Volvo Exhaust, Volvo s70 exhaust, Volvo 850 exhaust, or just plain old Volvo Obx exhaust. it is like $375.00 on there. Or I could be misunderstanding what you are saying. Are you saying you can't have the OBX in your country period? if so, then that sucks, and you should go hurt whomever made that a rule.

    I can get w/e I want but shipping a whole exhaust over the US would cost a LOT. I know, I often buy stuff from overseas.. smaller stuffs :)

  • its actually not as loud as I thought it would be. im planning on losing the cat too and getting an obx downpipe. The neighbors hate the motorcycle more ;)

  • I think I read on vs that you can just move it farthur back and it wont throw a code but im not exactly sure. Im definately ready for it to be louder even though it sounds a hundred times better than stock. Guess ive got a little ricer in me too.

  • hey narancshun i was just wondering if you could give me some advice. My 850 T5 has just one big square/rectangle exhaust box (apart from the cat of course) towards the back/centre of the car and a pipe running from it to the rear bumber. The exhaust system is standard so I guess this is the same on all T5's.

    I was thinking i could remove this horribly restrictive box and and just join the pipes together with a pipe. Is this what you did?

  • Thanks for the info and your car sounds spot on the money. A few people have advised me to get a sports muffler instead as i will lose back pressure and then performance. I personally can't see this being the case as that box looks very restrictive. How does yours run if you don't mind my asking? Certainly looks and sounds sweet :)

  • Lol @ the backpressure thing. The turbo makes enough backpressure.

    It spools a bit faster and holds boost better.. sort of. Butt dyno says worth it :D

    And I somehow gaind some MPG. Maybe it isn't connected to the hacked exhaust...

    Downsides: I'm sure you won't like the drone on highways. Close to terrible between 2k-2.5k RPM (highway speed) :D Also your neighbours going to hate you..

    But I still love it :)

  • To be fair yours really doesn't sound that offensive and I don't do a lot of long distance mileage so that's fine. About my neighbours, they can kiss my arse in their Ford Mondeos and Audi estates :) I'll let you know how it goes, and thank you very much for the advice.

  • Anyways the car sounds really good but imagine how great it would sound with 3" turbo back.Thats my next step.Already have the DP now I am getting the midpipe etc.

  • the bov & exhaust sound great. did you do the work yourself? mine leaks oil from the engine seals and oil lines. have you ever had to replace those?

  • I'm sorry, I thought I answered...

    engine seals seems good so far, turbo oil return line is leaking a bit.

    I can't weld, so i went to a shop to weld the pipes.

  • It simple enough to fix.Its just a little rubber o-ring that goes around the oil return line.Mine was doing the same thing before I replaced the gasket.Would leave a right mess of oil.Now nothing.

  • Check the PCV system, they are a common fault on the 850 T5. If it's not working you can get a build up of pressure in the crank case. Just pull the dip stick out with the engine running and check for puffs of smoke. If it's chuffing away then you need to get it sorted or it will eventually blow the rear main oil seal. This could explain your problem

    I have two oil leaks: one from the oil return line and one from the PS pump :/

  • The joys of motoring hey! Think about it this way though, it's cheaper than a wife and less trouble than a child. I had to make a tough decision to tell my girlfriend to go because my long term commitment was to a big old dirty Sweedish girl with a bad attitude :)

  • nothing, works perfectly.

    actually i had to lower it to about 14psi. Sometimes I had boost spikes up to 17psi. since I'm on factory tune I hit fuel cut(~15psi), which is surprising when you are overtaking someone...

    With the factory turbos (15g/16t) no problems when using MBC.

  • Igen, az indexesre, tudom hogy ritkán, de emlékeztem Rád. Igen, Te is jól emlékszel, van egy 3-asom is, meg egy turbós 9-es is. Szívesen konzultálnék pár dologról, mert én is szeretnék lefújót, kis turbónyomás emelést, meg pár apróságot, és minden vélemény érdekel.

    De a 850 hangja tényleg brutális, imádom.
