  • and people say that Travis Barker underrated...

  • The guys filming were probably like,"Hey Chad just play us a quick little warm up."

He plays that then looks back at the camera guys like,"...well there you go."

    They're like," ..... :o ...."

  • Amazing

  • He sounds like he developed his style in a marching band or drum corp

  • @Evological that's true. he did.

  • @Evological River-City Railmen and Skyriders back in the 80's ;)

  • You smutty bastard. Stop posting tin can molestation on YouTube or I'll call the WWF.

  • @ryzardsalinger I heard from my drum line instructor that he marched in the drum corps. so that probably why you do. he sound pretty groovy!

  • If only it wasn't such a bad kit!!! why can't he play the kit before uplifter :(

  • 6 people listen to anal c*** and enjoy it

  • bad ass see yall this summer!!!!!!!!

  • damn hes good at those double stroke rolls

  • @extrmefreak21 1:00 - 1:05?? para diddles

  • @311Vision just sayin in general

  • @extrmefreak21 haha I hear ya... he's awesome and so clean and precise

  • @311Vision Actually, I think it's just consecutive six stroke rolls. RllrrLRllrrLR etc. I'm pretty sure that there is an actual name for that rudiment though.

  • @XxStrongDrums1996xX Wow ok, this is where you lose me because I was never in marching band and decided to learn the rudiments a little late in the game bro.. I can hear/identify singles/doubles/triplets/paradiddles/swiss triplets and flams, flam taps etc, I need to take lessons from someone who has marching band exp and learn the real way...

  • @311Vision Let me try to dumb it down a little bit. R = right hand accent; L = left hand accent, r = right hand tap/ghost note; l = left hand tap/ghost note. Take a look at the pattern again, do you see now? Also keep in mind that it is phrased as sixteenth note triplets, so there are six notes per measure. I'll put it in a diagram for you. 1 2 3 4 1

    1...2...3...4...RllrrLRllrrLRllrrLRllrrLR

Message me if you need further help with this.

  • so why is there only like 3 good chad sexton drumming vids on her?

  • This guy marched Crossman. That's what marching DCI does to a drummer.

  • @TheRyan909 actually,Railmen in 84 and 85 then Sky Ryders 86 and 87 but yes,his dci skills made him a better drummer.

  • What ride is that?

  • @CommancheDoyle Well then tell me what kind of rudiments he's playing? Huh?

  • @Theitisme400 Uhh dude, I was reading back through the comments here and at this point in time I would like to apologize for my actions. I realize now that I was overreacting over nothing and I shouldn't have been such a hothead about it. I sincerely apologize for the way that I acted against you, and I will remove each of my comments so that they don't pollute this video. You seem like a very well rounded, educated percussionist and I shouldn't have judged. Good luck to you.

  • @XxStrongDrums1996xX Hey man, no worries at all!! Been there!! And I know how youtube can get :o) & honestly fella, at 15 and with your ability as it is at the minute, you stand to be an ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT drummer in the very near future. I apologise too bud for anything that came across wrong. And if you do requests :o) 'A Certain Romance' by The arctic Monkeys would be top, lol I look forward to more any way. Keep it up! ☮

  • Chad is awesome. All the people whining about the sound obviously have no experience with recording. Please do some research before whining about such obvious crap.

  • bad mic recording a great drummer... too bad :(

  • To all the hater's bashing the sound of his kit: Those are Pearl Reference Series, VERY nice set of drums, but when you record an un-miked kit with a mini-DV camera, it's going to sound low quality.

  • @311Vision no matter how they mic them, it dowsn't sound like 311

  • He's so good. Those drums sound like tin garbage cans, though.

  • @bigwilly311 It's all because of the low quality camera microphone. The recording process through good microphones and a clean sounding mixing console will sort that out. I guarantee any band's drums sound like that to naked ear.

  • those drums sound kinda wackk

  • uses way to much arm not enough wrist

  • @MegaAlexBush I don't know where you're getting that from. He's using mostly wrist, especially on the more finite stuff on the snare and toms he's using all wrist.

  • @MegaAlexBush

I'm sure you can play better than him too right?

  • at the end he's like "need anything else bitch?"

  • they can take the snare on the track and eq it and even change pitch. if you hear it the isolated snare track does have alot of crack and pop and with a good eq could bring out that famous 311 sound.

  • replayed from 1:05 till end 100 times- muting the cymbal....wow man friggin awesome

  • You sire, are a fucking monster.

  • Chad is such a better player than Travis though, kind of sucks he change to Pearl :( Money talks I guess.

  • anyone think his toms sound a little dead acoustically? could the cast rims effect the resonance that dramatically? (micing aside)

  • chad smith! <3 only

  • so smooth.

  • coated heads, LMAO

  • @bsm6776 wahts wrong with coated heads????????

  • so not fair. absolute favorite drummer. hands lik a mad man so no need for quick feet. drum Corp teaches well.

  • 3 people should die

  • @311Vision Hahahaha.

  • one of the cleanest drummers out there

  • why does anyone dislike anything that when surpasses a certain level of skill, after u get so good the only thing that shines is ur style

  • Chad Sexton is the man!

  • He's a virtuoso. Its that simple. He also posses "perfect time".

  • only rock drummer to not beat the sh!t out of his drums. Great sound quality + sick grooves.

  • i love his styleeeeeeeeeee

  • haahaha dude im ytippin man you re so sik! I fuckin love your style man your debonare and shit is off the hook I hang out with your mom and broskies every friday man and its aawesome you should come and say watsup, friday round 2 clock peace man

  • between chad sexton and chad smith...incredible grooves and feels.

  • GOD?!

  • His pearl snare sounds good! Its all studio work boys! A good studio can make a CB700 snare sounds like a million bucks! Chad records with brady, joyful noise, vintage snares, pearl, and ocdp! He has a whole room at the Hive full of drums. Pearl pays him money to take those drums out on the road and record videos for youtube so the "pawns" will buy them and think they can have his sound and be like him. He uses different drums, snares, cymbals, heads, sticks on every song! believe it!

  • @MrDBCooper1 It's funny that you say that a CB 700 snare can sound good with studio work because a few years back, I recorded with a CB700 snare and it's the best snare sound I've ever gotten. I still use the sample for other songs haha.

  • i Thought Remo made drumsets! Is it possible PDP or OCDP is part of Remo?Chad Dude might know! He's Doing cool drumrolls on those Remo Heads! Thanks, brainy,BrainmanMedia

  • anyone know what hi hats hes using

  • @CaptCinnabon Zildjian 14" A-Customs

  • I once dreamt of being a drummer because of Chad and Morgan Agren(Kaipa).

  • i know chad uses zildjian sticks but are the 5A's, 7A's?

  • @iplaydrums18 He uses 3A's haha

  • @tgscho thanks

  • I HATE HATE HATE that he uses pearl now..and no more snare pop even with a rimshot....disapointed in chad now

  • @othreeeleven I'm pretty sure he's been using Pearl floating snares and Brady snares for years. He just switched his kit from OCP to Pearl. I have noticed the change in the pop though.

  • @uplifter311 He Used the Pearl Free-floater cage, but never a Brady shell. always OCDP shells in the cage.

  • @othreeeleven I wouldn't say that I'm disappointed in him now, but I do dislike Pearl Drums. I always have.

  • Drum Corp... can definately tell.

  • obsession with ambassadors! haha

  • i want this beat on my i-pod

  • chad is awesome

  • still my fav.

  • I fucking LOVE him. GOD...

  • @bsm6776 i have coated tom heads they are really good. they sound way better than the clear tom heads at least for me.

  • travis barker, chad sexton,me,jojo mayer, dennis chambers, and alot of people. except you.

  • Chad sexton, vinnie colauita, chad smith, taylor hawkins, dave grohl, dennis chambers, toy royster jr... Need I continue dipshit?

  • kinda disappointed that he changed the way his snare sounds, that 311 crack is just so sweet. It maybe the recording on the cam but that is also a pearl reference kit.

  • @ seamusmcegan I definitely agree i loved his drumming partly because of the sound of the drums.

  • @seamusmceagan his snare was like revalutanary dude, 311 kicks major ass

  • @turf453 yeah i did some more looking and i found a vid out of this series about him his snare and he does whats called a ping shot, which is mainly a marching term, it's when you play a rim shot with the shoulder of the stick instead of the shaft, this will give you more tone instead of stick attack. but yeah i love his snare tone man

  • @seamusmceagan yea i watched a video where he talks about is snare tone and i didnt know he used rim shots like that

  • @seamusmceagan i gotta say... i started out on maple pearl shells. one of my favorite bass drums has always been my old 22x18 pearl maple. I was obsessed with the vented, thick ply keller shells for a long time because of chad. I have plenty of them, too. they sound awesome, and its not that im completely tired of them. but they have their place. its nice to use a variety of sounds, and i love pearl! listen to some of chad smith's snares...

  • @seamusmceagan I don't follow him so much, but he once said in a video of his that everyone thinks he cranks his snare to get the crack, but he really just hits the outer edge of his snare, as apposed to directly in the center.

  • @inimicalODDITY Yeah lol, i saw that right after i watched this. He uses whats called a ping shot and it's basically a rim shot but with the shoulder of the stick instead of the middle or shaft so by doing that your hit is placed more towards the edge, And that also gives you more ring and tone instead of volume and crack. A lot of march guys use that technique.

  • @seamusmceagan yeah that ocdp vented snare was pretty sweet but i guess not as sweet as the money pearl had to offer :(

  • @TDBobbyhill Actually OCDP had to sell their company so I guess they had to let all the "no names" go. Which means everyone but Travis Barker.

  • @Transistor97 ? There are still plenty of people with ocdp "no names" included and Chad definitely wasn't one of them plus he was one of the first to sign with them. Pearl just has the $ but, Travis is Ocdp's poster boy.

  • @TDBobbyhill I gotcha. That was just what someone told me.

  • @Transistor97 Adrian Young of No Doubt still rock's the OC kit, whether in the studio or live.

  • @seamusmceagan

couldn't agree more..thought his previous orange county drums/percussion kit fit his style perfectly (particularly the 'drum corps' style snare). nonetheless, still a phenomenal percussionist.

  • @seamusmceagan his snare isnt the same in a single one of his parts of every one of there songs

  • hahaha at 0:52 he looks really pleased with himself

  • HAHAHAHA!! I know right? Chad's like "Yeah... I just went there"

  • if i could do that even at half tempo i'd be overjoyed

  • I know right. I could probably do it if I practiced it enough.

  • @Transistor97 he knows he's the man.

  • its gotta be a remo rep, who else would have posted this vid?

  • It was a rep.

  • not the best video of chad, but i can never watch enough of them being that they are rare as fuck! and yeah i agree with you nutsymton.

  • Ha! at the end Chads face expression is like what? what the fuck do you want? This is just brushin' teeth in Brooklyn.

  • Look how new the heads are, I garantee you a there is a Remo representative standing there saying "just give us a little sample groove on these new heads and tell us what you think, give us some feedback".. Thats why at the end Chad looked off camera at someoen and was like "Good enough?"

  • i'm pretty sure this was during the recording of Uplifter. Bob probably was trying to get a good drum sound in the studio and asked Chad to play so they'd know if they had to adjust the EQ settings.

  • They recorded Uplifter in a different place, it was very large and open, with high ceilings, unlike the Hive. If this was recorded by Bob Rock, Remo wouldnt have anything to do with it.

  • Uplifter was recorded on an OCDP kit before he switched to pearl.

  • IMO...Pearl... is the shits :D.

  • BTW, way to quote his DrumKit tour video...

  • That snare makes me want to vomit. I do not like the sound at all. You used to be able to tell it was Chad playing just by listening and wouldn't even have to see the video. Some of the snares on Uplifter are really thuddy sounding too.

Bring back the Transistor and Soundsystem snares :(

Listen to the beginning of Sever. That's what I'm talking about.

  • @threeforty7 I would probably sound much better miced.

  • Im with you, I completely agree. If he is going to play a weak sounding snare drum, the least he can do is crank the top AND bottom heads down really tight, like he used to on his old OC snares...

  • Whats the drum rudiment at 1:01?

  • @Nutsymton paradiddle diddle

  • So Sick

  • FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFf

  • GOOD GOD. I love this man. that was so dope-funk-tascular-in the pocket.

(With his Drum Corps Chops thrown in)

    :-)

  • I do miss the old snare as well! But damn I can't stop watching this! Chad is such an underrated drummer. *****

  • i love chad but man i wish he was still with OCDP. that snare he's using sounds like ass.

  • Actually its very close to the "From Chaos" snare, especially sounds like the snare on "You wouldnt believe, or from chaos. or full ride.

  • i don't know man i remember the from chaos snare being the orange one! and sounding way better!

  • Yeah, the beads on this snare arent as tight, and the bottom head is no where nearly tuned as tight as the Chaos snares.. There were several snares used on the from chaos album...

  • i wish he played that china more often

  • whoa chad switchin up a little, love ya bro

  • Ladies and Gentlemen, ..

    The Rythematic Genius,

    Mr. Chad Sexton....BEAST!!!!!
