She is magnificent. She is all we have left of the spirit of Laura Nyro. She is what Joni Mitchell no longer cares (or dares) to say. Rickie, you are a "pilgrim, a pioneer" (Laura Nyro's words). I admire you and your art deeply.
Rickie's sentiments regarding the political climate in the US are right. When Bush stole the election--he was selected by the Supreme Court, not elected. That set the USA on a terrible trajectory--like a bad science fiction film, we are in the wrong parallel universe because of that one egregious action. If Obama could be stronger with the other party, and be tough, I wouldn't consider him just another suit as Rickie does. But I sure know where she's coming from.
She has lifted me many many days. I love that voice. She sings a song like no one else can. She has that gift. Others may sing the same song, but not even close to the way Rickie does. Nothing short of incredible.
cuteness is irrelevant.... she says out loud what i have thought, but coulnd't put words to. she does lift my soul. when i hear the song Bonfires i hear the hurt in her voice and i want to use her own songs to lift *her* up. she puts heart and soul out there for all and it's still uplifting even when it's a sad subject. i'd vote for her for president any day.
Billie Holiday .... yeah just what I was thinking too. Obama IS just another guy in a suit. I love that phrase. Come to think of it, when Bush stole the presidency, I lost interest too.
I used to wonder why she was easily better than Joni Mitchell (Hejira, Hissing of Summer Lawns etc), The worst songs on Pirates are better than Joni's best. After reading her biography, I understand. Rickie lived her songs. You can't fake it.
What I loved about Rickie Lee Jones when I was young was her emotion. Wasn't her voice. But the voice was the vehicle of her emotion. And she was clearly smart. Clearly knew what a song was about and sang it THAT way... something most these days don't do. Bunch of noise out of most singers of late. And Rickie Lee Jones was unique. Had a unique perspective on a song, so she could take anybody's song and make it hers. I'm sorry she's not a bigger force.
thank you :) Rickie, with every utterance i'm taller .
i now fell 6" 4
i was only 5"2 before

in my mind a plesent day

not a day goes by

I'm thinking Billie Holiday/Joni Mitchell. But she's uniquely delightfully herself.

well, she's 55 years old, looking pretty great i'd say.
cute is what she was. beautiful is what she is. she's got the beauty
that comes with humility and kindness. and she probably looked
alot better before the orb ripped her off on pink puffy clouds.

She's turning into a kind of blonde Billie Holiday - which isn't a bad thing, not bad at all ...
CusterFlux 1 year ago
@CusterFlux I admire that you said blonde and not white, shows that our world is changing when comments are made like that.

She looks absolutly nothing how i imagined her to look. I heard her voice on The Orbs Little Fluffy Clouds and imagined her to be really cute.
