Actually, I worked at Disneyland in Anaheim and in the employee newspaper the storyline for the original was that the Mansion belonged to an old sea captain who killed his unfaithful bride and then hung himself. He is the "Ghost Host" hanging in the stretching gallery.
Maybe it was the ghost, the Phantom was the spirit of the Spanish conquistador and the ghouls are his troops of Spanish soldiers, adventurers, knights, and even musketeers in armors enter the Ravenwood house from Big Thunder Mountain, to Thunder Mesa. Looking for the gold that Henry Ravenwood's found. Believe the Ravenwood stole their gold, and the Ravenwood family were haunted. The ghosts was witness by Native Americans like the Pima tribes, and the Mexican and Spanish-Mexican people.
yeah i dont think its her dad..i heard Melanie tried to contact her dead parents from madame leota and as she did so an evil spirit came out somehow and yeah, the phantom
When we say "fell in love" in these cases we referred obviously to the classical main villain's evil crush for the girl, like Gaston for Belle or Frollo for Esmeralda :):)
For anyone who has read Charles Dickens' GREAT EXPECTATIONS, or even have seen a film adaption, can you see the similarities to Melanie and Miss Havisham. If you haven't read the book, she was an old woman who was stranded at the alter when she was young (About 50 years earlier). She wore here wedding dress everyday and the ballroom is still set up for the reception that never happened. The scene with the rats on top of the rotting wedding cake always creeped me out; and here it is.
i got confused. at first pple said that she( melanie) was supposed to marry a rich person but he married her sister instead and then she murder them and she killed herself and then her it is a story about a pride again and then they say that melanie was living with her daughter and husband and then they dissapread suddenly and a ghost is tracking her and...... uh i am confused so can anyone plzz explain to me the real story in detail plz and thankyou
@meygan890 funny story, but not true. the story go's like this. the Phantom is Malanie's father, who disproved of his daughter marriage, so hi killed the groom and got killed with his wife digging for gold in Thunder Mountain because of an earthquake who took the town with him. Melanie waited her whole life in the decaying house for her groom to return to her. after she died she finally found him again beyond the grave, and helps you escape the grasp of the Phantom by showing you the exit.
Try Live365 . com . Among all other types of "Radio Stations" including about 10 or so Disney Park music channels, there is one that plays music, rehearsal tracks, isolated sound recordings. The station is called, oddly enought, The Haunted Mansion", but it plays music from all 4 parks with a Haunted Mansion/Phantom Manor type ride. Hong Kong still doesn't , but I hear they are doing something like a old wizards house will all kinds of illusions going on. Anyway, Check it out
Yeah, I've never been, but from the videos and pictures I've seen, Phantom Manos looks WAY more elaborate in decor, music, and thought than the CA version. But who can resist Walt's original work? x3
I don't think that the Phantom is Melanie's father Henry. I rather think he is just an evil spirit who fell in love with her (Melanie) and then killed his groom, hanging him in the Stretchroom. It's just my opinion...
Fair enough, I always assumed it was her father, driven mad by the fires of hell. he'd managed to escape and proceeded to kill her fiancee and torture her, until she was as mad as him.
No pic. But when our California version has the Nightmare Before Christmas version up you have to look up all the way to see Jack's face. And same when it's just regular to see a hanging man. Just look up all the way before the lightning strikes.
@Dragonrider1227 well, actually she died of old age, waiting her whole life for her groom to show up for the wedding. the Phantom is indeed her father, and he died in Thunder Mesa together with his wife because of an earthquake that also caused the tow to fall into hell.
@Dragonrider1227 i think that the phantom is her father, making sure that the bride does not get married and leaves her father and mother in thunder mesa with the groom and as the phantom hung her groom, and she hung her self in depression and confusion of what happened to the groom and haunts the manor to this very day!?!?spooky huh????
All we know is the Phantom killed Someone, and judging from The Bride's reaction it is probably her groom. That's all the canon we really have.
Which is more than Disneyland/world's canon anyway. The official canon for them really just consists of Ghost Host is a suicide, Madame Leota is a Seer, and Constance killed people.
Well, USA canon is how Walt wanted it. Unless you are going with the "Little Leota is Master Gracey's daughter, And Madame Leota killed the Alligator girl (Gracey's first bride) and Emily (Pre Constance Attic Bride) to be with Mister Gracey. But I don't consider that Canon. There is nothing to support it in the ride.
And, I think Tokyo is basically WDW Mansion.
I haven't seen Tokyo, but I like all the other Mansions. They all have their pro's and cons.
this is the first mansion ride I've seen though that actually has a story to it, you know? Don't get me wrong, I LOVE the DL HM, the orignal and all, but seeing the others excite me ;D
I saw a really cool effect when I was browing Tokyo's. Just before the Hallway of Doors, there is a painting. Where the person tries to push out of it.
It was sooo cool!
Phantom Manor is gorgeous and Scary (with good tidbits of a story. In a good way.)
and DisneyLand/World is just.... fantastic and undescribable.
I actually find the USA one more fun to ride. Paris' has a good story, but it's depressing and the last thing I want to be when coming out of a Disney park is "depressed"
@Dragonrider1227 i agree waith demando.. i just thought it was great how in paris it was actually kinda scary and there was a story behind it. in usa it's just only about the effects (which are great anyway), it's more silly than i had expected.
I thought the bell song at the beginning of the video sounded familar. I live in Anaheim, CA and always go to Disneyland in December to ride "The Nightmare Before Christmas" ride. I remember the bell song while waiting in line and thought it was something that Danny Elfman created for the ride. Thanks for the great video.
This is an awesome video. I am so happy you included the storyline. Your vids match so well with the story and it makes the vids of the ride so much more meaningful. BTW the footage of the ride is exceptional and very detailed good job all around.
that music...at the begging of the clip....its from haunted mansion holiday...isnt it? that nice pretty bells song....does anyone know where i can get it?
Actually it's from there originally, Disney just reused it for the Haunted mansion holidays since I guess people didn't want to hear the scarols anymore... ._.;
Er, you can find a snipit of the song (Bout 30-50 seconds) on the 'Haunted Mansion 30th Anniversary' CD. I don't know where you can find the whole bell song loop...
No, the narration with Price is as far as they ever got. I think the purely visual storytelling was going to be in there from the start, since they were not only dealing with French patrons, but from all over Europe as well. But Price's narration is included in The Haunted Mansion ride soundtrack. :)
I found it at Le Bat en Rouge, the Haunted Mansion/Nightmare Before Christmas shop in Disneyland. Do you live near a Disney park? No doubt you could find it somewhere in there, keeping a weather-eye out.
Yes, I live within two hours of Disneyland California, but I had no idea Le Bat en rouge had the soundtrack for... Wait, was the Le Bat en Rouge IN Disneyland Paris?
No, Le Bat en Rouge (named for Baton Rouge, LA) is located in New Orleans Square, ONLY in Aneheim as far as I know. No doubt DLP has their own Mansion/Nightmare shop, but look for the soundtrack in N'walins.
Damn this was good. Brought all the memories back to me. I visited here 1996 and i remember quite much but to atually SEE this all again. Makes me wanna go there NOW!! Thanks!
