  • manic!

  • I like the feeling of velvet.

  • I love both versions, right now i'm digging on this one since it's very upbeat but you can still feel the raw and at times dark emotions, goddamn lou reed how do you do it

  • Comment removed

  • After hearing this, I've always switched out "Harry, Mark and John" with "Winkin, Blinkin and Nod."

  • i'll take reed's version

  • Loaded session.

The drumming by Steve Yule (Doug's bro, filling up for a pregnant Moe) gives a real rock'n roll feel to the song and in fairness to the all Loaded album.

    Doo-wop Lou is playing along.

    Pure enjoyment!

  • yay much livelier, much better!!! :) in my opinion :)

  • I wish Lou reed and the band never broke up they could've gotten legendary

  • @bibimyunn they are legendary

  • Doesn't Mo Tucker look so out of place?

  • @angryhandjob He looks baked..

  • @harmike17 Lol, Moe is a girl.

  • tuning your guitar was so not done back then ;-)

  • this is better than the transformer version and if you think otherwise well i dont fucking care

  • What's the name of the guy on the top left?

  • @Lauraloli1 It's John Cale.

  • new york > berlin

  • I hate to say this but I never used to like T.V.U or this song. It really grows on you though. I know it's a classic!

I really like this version of it............it's great.

  • In the Box Set booklet Reed says he regrets the "Winkin, Blink, and Nod" lyrics. Thought that was funny

  • i prefere this to the Lou version couse this is more enthralling, great rock n roll..Nico is astonishing......

  • Makes me want to run naked when I hear this song.

  • @TheRaphaelmc So says a balding, beer-bellied 45 year old man...

  • I feel better knowing that even Lou Reed changes his lyrics to his songs. I always feel like a hack when i change lyrics to song ive written.

  • this one is better than lou's in my opinion. but it would have been even better if Bowie had done backing vocals on it.

  • yeah fool, look atthe name "Velevet Underground" was long before Lou babe went solo with the help of a one Mr bowie.....who happen to write allhis songs :)

  • 1 faggot. JUST 1 FAGGOT FUCKED THIS UP.

  • @ublec15 make that two for annoying me (but this song rocks anyways so who cares)

  • @sulmagnificent ok?..

  • I'm gonna play that again

  • Was anyone aware Porno for Pyros did a version?

  • EFFING HELL this beats the sh it outta the transformer version

  • Comment removed

  • Great bass-playing in this version. Walter Powers, right?

  • @mussman717word I think its Doung Yule

  • geez theres just something about 60s music that gets me. no decade will ever beat the 60s .

  • @CrapLode66 lol this song was recorded in 1970.

Your argument is invalid. Lrn2 Rock n' Roll history my friend.

But wait, you were trying to be funny right?

Sorry but you failed. Failed good and hard.

    Enjoy your fail, bro.

    You're an idiot.

So many misnomers in your post it's laughable.

  • Comment removed

  • @dirtynuke

LOL, you got so mad that you resorted to profanity and made a further fool of yourself. And you think I was picking on your grammar? HA! Google misnomer you foul mouthed wretch.

You're entitled to your "opinions" but don't go confusing them for facts, to correct you would of used up too much space, but you are but a simple philistine and I forgive you for your puerile outburst. As I said in my original post 'Lrn2 Rock n' Roll history my friend'.

"but by the mid seventies reed, bowie, and iggy were in a sort of musical affair"

You aren't even sure of the bullshit you spew forth from your own keyboard, but here, I'll fix it for you. This musical threesome you envision never actually existed OK? Yes Lou and Iggy share a connection in that Bowie worked with them both in varying degrees. But that's where the connection ends. They never worked together or shared a 'musical affair' as a threesome. Do some research, moron. Kthxbai.

  • @dirtynuke

"but the fact is since day one lou reed wanted the band to hit it big".

That is bullshit as well but you attempt to state it as 'fact'. Reed was not chasing fame from day one, if he was why did he walk out on the Velvets when they were at the precipice of being commercially successful in 1970 to work as a typist for an entire year? He even stated years later that he saw the commercial direction they were headed in and did not like it. Keep your erroneous comments to yourself.

  • @dirtynuke

In September of '68 Cale was pushed out of the group by Lou Reed in collusion with new manager, Steve Sesnick.

Sesnick was the one who pushed for commercial success in the later years and for Reed to write more accessible material. If Reed was so obsessed with fame he would've been writing bubblegum from day one. Not recording songs about drugs and sadomasochism. Seriously. Even in his solo years he attempted to sabotage his own career in response to the fame he was garnering.

Keep changing your argument sweetie. It makes your original post oh so insignificant.

I don't phase you, yet you just made three long winded posts directed at me with a whole lot of words that mean absolutely nothing.

You seem vexed, are you mad bro?

  • @dirtynuke dude its pretty obvious that he does phase you lmfao 3 long posts that mean nothing

  • @watever4201 @dirtynuke @ConnieLynchitz Please please please! FAZED, dammit, not "phased".

    Okay, carry on.

  • @liberal2nSF lmfao!

  • @ConnieLynchitz

if reed had wanted to he would have been in the position to turn straight to mainstream after "transformer". but he recorded "berlin". and later on "metal machine music". but that was not his aim. he wanted do do the records he wanted do create.

to me: a lot of good stuff, a lot of bad stuff. but never focused on commerzial aspects after transformer. same with cale (who i prefere more). the velvets changed my life in 1974 when i was sixteen.

  • @kuechenuschi

OK, you are backing my original argument. Reed in fact was more consumed by his drive for making an artistic statement, than seeking fame and adulation. In the beginning of the velvets anyway. After his masterpiece Berlin had tanked, he released an album (Sally Can't dance) that he gave the barest of effort to. It did well commercially and in disgust he backed it by releasing one of the most perverse albums ever released in Metal Machine Music.

Lol, I proved you wrong and exposed you for the foul mouthed ignoramus that you truly are. Keep getting mad and spitting profanity at me, don't faze me sugar.

You still stand by your imaginary musical trinity. But here, give me a single example of Iggy Pop working with Reed in the 70's. It never happened. Not then or ever.

I initially thought you were being facetious, but if you are serious then LOL. Serious Business.

  • This idea of slagging Lou Reed's solo stuff because it's not 'The Velvet Undergound' is completely asinine.

  • this is gay

  • a night with lou reed live version is nice too

  • this song is perfect.

  • The 'Transformer' song is much worse than this. That is, unless you like commercial crap.

  • @louiseduvee Which might be a valid argument if the transformer version didn't have a certain man named David Bowie making adorable "Bom bom bom"s.

  • @justnicknet Well, Mr. Bowie's influence was certainly one of the things I hate about Transformer, although I love Mr. Bowie's own music.

  • This is way better than the one on Transformer

  • Bong Bong Bong

    Sate-lliiiiite, Ah Aaah, Oh o o o

sorry just filling in for Bowie

  • This version is sooo great. I love the Solo version of Reed's but the more I listen to this version the more I start to favour it.

  • I love both versions so much.. :O <3

  • In a way I'm so happy that the Velvets were never able to break into the mainstream, because their charm has to do with the fact that they never did, and makes their already top notch recordings just a little more memorable, and, much like Lou himself, would have probably fallen into the pop music scene, being more concerned with selling records than making kickass music, even though LOADED was kind of a sell out album, it's great because in a way it never sold out. VU forever

  • Awesome song.

  • not as good as transformer's version in my opinion, but still great

  • Who is this strange garage band stealing songs from Reed?

    just kidding

  • better than reed's solo

  • I love both. <3 Lou is a genius either way.

  • This is superb, but the Transformer version is sublime.

  • Bowie helped make Lou's solo version more pop-friendly and modern but it can't beat that old 60's charm.

  • @lemonlorry i find lou's version a bit of a drag, i love this! seriously a revelation for me :)

  • @lemonlorry Exactly what I wanted to say only not about the Bowie part didn't know that, fun to know

  • @lemonlorry Yeah, "modern" as in 1972. Haha.

  • i think i like this version more than Reed's original.

  • Actually this one was recorded earlier than Reed's version!

  • @WaldoJeffers25 nice name

  • @CAR18MEN It is still a lou reed song. He Wrote it and sang it. This is just the first version. I like the 2nd better though.

  • @CAR18MEN prefer the lou solo one seen him do it 3 years ago with a big choir and band when he toured the berlin album and done this as an oncour still good this one i heard this one first but with bowie on productoin and backing vocals on transformer just shades it for me

  • @CAR18MEN i agree. i also like the vu version of andy's chest.

  • I got the record 'Peel slowly and see' and this isn't the version i got! Will post it tho..

  • I can say which version I like better. They're both great!

  • I prefer this version over the one off Transformer.

  • Sorry to be a nitpicker but why is Nico on the picture? She has never been part of the V.U., just a guest on the first album and this cover is an outtake of the Loaded session long after the banana album.

That's said I really like this version.

  • A lot of people just lump her in as member of the band because her name is in the title of their debut album.

  • Exactly.

  • Anyone know where I can download an mp3 of this?

  • it was recorded with VU originally

  • It wasn't released by VU in an album, but they recorded it and it appears on Peel Slowly and See.

Lou later recorded his own solo version, in Transformer

  • wouldn't that make it a Lou Reed song nonetheless? If they never released it as their own single? Just a thought.

  • That would make 90% of VU released songs, Lou's songs, cause he wrote most of it.

  • @subsamadhi Uh, no.

  • @subsamadhi WHAAAAAT!?!?!? Can't you hear the twisty guitar and Lou's false but true voice? Of course this is the blooming Velvet Underground.

  • One of the best songs of all time.....but,,,,V.U. did too many 'best songs' to even remember. Hehe. Thanks for posting. 5 ***** and faved.

  • soooooooooo good

    makes me so happy :)))

  • this version kicks ass.

  • this is a great VU song. Transformer version is a classic, Bowie's vocals, but it is sad nobody mention Mick Ronson piano, it's awesome!

  • transformer version is better produced, very nice and perfect david's vocals after break.... BUT i prefer this one, its pure and solid emotion! ;)

  • I totally agree with you...Bowie's vocals really make the Transformer version great though

  • i like the transformer version better. it seems more evocative of a mysterious space voi d. its calmer and lounge singer. this version is cool too i just prefer the transformer one.

  • Gypsy, Cambot, Crow and Tom Servo like the solo version better.

  • I don't think the Transformer version sucks, I think Transformer is a pretty classic album. And while I do think Lou has made some odd career choices in order to purposefully avoid public and critical recognition, I think he's had a pretty great career when you look at it as a whole.

BUT, that being said, I do think this version is superior to the Transformer one. The simpler production and the guitar riff is too good.

  • balls, classic

  • I prefer this version, its just so happy and energetic :D

  • This version is cool mostly because of the fact that it is basically a beta version of the vastly superior final product on Transformer.

  • im addicted to this version

  • I like the raw sound of this one but I love the transformer version too!

  • I don't like it as much as the Transformer version. I like how... down the other version is. Makes me sad, and kinda happy at the same time.

Still a great song in all forms. >_>

  • i think the best songs written are ones that make me want to cry and dance at the same time, so i completely agree. its a lot harder to capture such varying emotions in one sound

  • Joder!! Qué gozada descubrir este anillo de oro, dormido y olvidado dentro de un vaso de deliciosa cerveza negra. No me voy del bar, qué siga la música :-D Amazing discovery!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • this version is a great discovery for me. I think Lou improved this version and the lyrics when he did it on transformer.. but the youthfulness and rawness of this version bears a close listen.

  • cam eats monkey poo all day and night yeaaaah

  • I never lisened this version. It´s good, but the other one (the one with bowie in the backround vocals) is much better.

  • nico just butchered half of the velvet underground ablum

  • I like this version better but I like the line "Harry, Mark, and John" better than "To winkin, blinkin and nod".

  • this is the best version of this song, and now i feel good :)

  • this version is the best

  • I don't think it's the best version; but what a find, I never knew that Lou did it first with the Velvet Underground. Cool!

  • This isn't the exact version from 'Fully Loaded', is it? Oh well, makes little difference.

  • i honestly believe that had this song been released on loaded velvet underground would still be a band today one of my favorite songs of all time...it's insane how catchy and pretty this song is way better than lous version

  • Man!!!! This versions sounds nice!! made me feel dancing!!! If i talked to Lou Reed or any member from the VU!! why they couldn't realese this song!!! I'll think this song will impact the rock momment!! including to the beatles!!! in my vision!! this sounds like "DA Shiznit!!! man" Love This song and VU!!!

  • its gold,Waldo/jerry, GOLD !!!

  • It's awesome, but the lyrics are fairly unpolished. Lou admits this himself.

  • Agreed - not just the lyrics though - the version from Lou Reed is much crisper and more disciplined.

  • great version......... thanks for sharing

  • wow, id heard they did a version b4 lou did it on his one. its great!!

  • favorite vu song...you don't know how many times i've listend to this

  • Amazing. i think I like this version better than the Lou version. Thank you.

  • version très fun super!

  • Thanks! I've been looking for this, better than the Lou Reed solo version.
