Variants of these "old" aircraft are still used today. In fact, it is about the only precision heavy lift helicopter used here in the U.S. The chinook in comparison is rotten. Excellent fire fighting platform. This thing is is an "oldie" but a "goodie". Wish I could've flown these over Jetrangers in the army thats for sure.. but I would've had to have been about 20 years older ;)
Or out at OG-58, Erikson Aircrane's hangar/base of operations, Erikson bought the rights to the design and builds them now, they are WIDELY used by them for logging and hevy equipment jobs.
I spent a good amount of time around them as a kid because my father worked for them for many years, there used to be one stationed at New Castle County Airport here in Delaware actually
Actually smartcocker, the skycrane WAS made by Sikorsky but no longer is, its now made my Erickson. Basically Sikorsky made them at first, and their plans were then purchased by Erickson Air-Crane in 1992. But I'll give you half credit cause u were "Half" correct on your statement.
Hey no problem, I'm just glad you took it the right way, cause I was leary bout typing it. Most people get all piss and start verbal fights you know. I'm a helicopter nerd time, dads a pilot, guess where i get it from hahah!
