  • I'm coming out to my family tomorrow and I just watched this. I needed 8:50 more than anything right now. Thank you, Jamison.

  • i want to cry..

  • The term transgender includes this broad range of people who all experience atypical gender identity development but the way they express their gender roles may vary widely. Some need to express an alternative gender role only occasionally. A relatively small number of others experience transsexualism, which is the overwhelming need to transition to live permanently in the role that conforms to their innate gender identities.

  • This is really interesting, and these transitions were obviously VERY successful.

  • @Shadeleaves how is a transition successful or unsuccessful?

  • @jayke79 Well some people have difficulty "passing" even after a transition...but I know what you mean, it is a success if it makes the person happier :)

  • I think my mom's only concern might be about me and my safety if I go into transition (since that was her major concern when I came out as bisexual when I was 13) I'm still having some trouble with getting the words out. >_>

    Thanks for posting this video.

  • @TheElectricDreamer93 I feel sorry for your mother.

  • This is great, I'm a huge fan of Calpernia AND Jamison!

  • I am a 12-year-old FTM and I am having a bit of trouble talking to my parents and sister about it. I have talked to a counselor and a few young friends that I have, and they are perfectly fine with it. Can anyone please tell me what I am supposed to do now?

  • @ANGRYCATATTAX It's wonderful that you know who you are and you've been able to share it with friends who are supportive. If you think your family might not understand easily, maybe be ready to guide them to resources like a PFLAG meeting or online videos or a book like "The Transgender Child"--whatever you think they'd connect with. But also remember, there's no rush, and what you share is your choice; talk to who you feel safe & comfortable talking to, when you feel safe & comfortable talking.

  • @ANGRYCATATTAX they will learn to accept the fact that you are a transman. it takes time, and its not the easiest thing to come by. so either give it time since you are so young, and if you were to transtion you would have to have guardian consent, or wait till youre of age to be able to do it yourself. i say just tell them and see where it goes from there.

  • @ANGRYCATATTAX id say to wait a while. you're never too sure until you're older.

  • I think that (besides the fact they're great role models), the 'trans community' should be careful not to make subjects like "parental expectations" (read: having grandchildren) something so relevant to the case of being trans. Jamison Green mentions 'sociological expectations' as well I think. Like, I don't see how having children is necessarily 'sociological' as much as it can be biological. If anything, it's a bit of both, sand if anything, as trans people, we are (most def) a it of both

  • Very wise words Jamisen, thank you. As a young person who is faced by some of these issues with my partner, I have not heard it put so succinctly and clearly that it rings so true in my mind, once again thank you for posting. X

  • thank you.

  • I met "Jamie Green" when I was a kid coming out in a lesbian bar back in 1974. I had gone to the restroom and came out to the table where my friends were and there sat a young man who looked very much like Davy Jones of the Monkeys. I couldn't figure out what he was doing in the gay bar and why all my new friends who didn't like men, back then, were talking to him. That was the very young Jamieson Green, years and years before transition.

  • Whoever the 10 people are that didn't like this video, wake up you morons!

  • what are you trying to tell me that the male in this video wasn't always a male? that is amazing.

  • oh my goodness. i've never seen a female to male transformation...only the other way around.

  • very positve, you go man!!

  • i'm an mtf ... and even i cant believe he was ever a woman ( but i guess he never really was ) ... his self-confidence makes more manly than many men .. so very attractive .. and Calpernia is so poised and feminine ... two really great role models ... thanks for posting this video

  • @jasmine7676 The reason why the female to male is so successful is because we are all female for the first 6 weeks of life. Going to male can be considered sort of a natural transgression; whereas going from male to female is often a bit more difficult, because they are going backwards. Consider a man in his 20's or older, that has already hit 6 feet tall, his voice is deep, he is balding...there is not much he can do. His shoulders are always going to be too broad, his hips will never look rond

  • theres a website called the mermaid website for people 10 to 18. its a website 4 boys wanting to be girls and girls wanting to be boys. im a girl myself want to be a boy

  • i cant wait til im sixteen to have a sex change i'll be suprised i'll be alive to have one

  • I myself am FTM I havent come out to my mother yet. I did as a lesbian 6 yrs ago and she was cool with it and said I've always knew but that part of my life aint over. I need to come out again and it sux. I came out to my sister a bout a month ago n it didn't go well. She pretty much said I was one of those freaks from jerry springer. Also told me she's still "dealing" with me being a lesbian. Maybe my mom will take it better since she has always wanted a son.....

  • I myself am FTM and I havnt transitioned yet or come out to my mother. We are close and she is very cool knowing the fact I'm a lesbian which I'm not obviously lol. She has told me she has always wanted a son. I came out to my lil sister and it didn't go very well didn't go well when she found out I was lesbain. Said things like I'm like one of those freaks from jerry springer. dunno maybe my mom will respond better since.......

  • If you are FTM or think you may be, visit The Mens room at mensroom _ ning _ com for information on transition and FTM community.

  • This is very helpful, especially the part about having confidence in your self.

  • I read Jamison's "Becoming a visible man" i am also F2M

  • OMG!how can i download this? i'm FtM preop from Uzbekistan and i LLLove this guy! he's great!

  • jamison green is such a wonderful man

  • I'm a gay man and I've had a crush on James for years. He's so many and sweet.

  • OMG I can't believe he used to be female! It's mad cos I've seen so many FTMs and they actually are more masculine than I am and I'm just a guy. In fact I've had people thinking I'm female because I'm rather effeminate and gay. It really frustrates me! Maybe I should get some of that testosterone!!! lol :P Great video!!!

  • hey, its not bad to be effeminate buddy

  • Oh dude, don't be ridiculous, it's not more testosterone you need(you already have it! lol), it's more of that confidence that will make the difference. Take your space, know who you are and don't walk bashfully, and you'll come across as less effeminate and more manly, in a sense. But if you are an effeminate person, don't be ashamed of it. There's more than one kind of "manly" in this world, and there's nothing wrong with a confident effeminate man.

  • I don't understand, he was a woman before, doesn't he?? Now, he's a man...?

Nice to share it with everybody, really a good example to all transgender all over the world.

  • I discovered some information today that has altered my view of the actions I might take. I really need someone to talk to about this but I don't have the courage to tell friends or family, yet. Can someone who is going through this process or considering it contact me? I really need some advice.

  • I transed over at 51 ftm. I did this for me, and my family and woman had to go for the ride, or leave the amusment park. Nice video, love Calpernia.

  • fuck! jamison was a gal????dayum i thot he's a real guy hehehe..well yeah ur such an inspirational guy/girl(wudever)=)God bless yah!

  • He is a real guy. Don't be rude.

  • one of my homies(gal)she wanted to be a guy coz she wants to get marry with her gf and da problem is her gf family doesnt agree with the marry idea so she wanted to do the sex change from female to male and the problem is she does not now what will happen during the operation and ofcoz is it safe or not??and now she's in thai doin the operation n i hope she'll be fine...amen!(lets pray for he)

  • Thanks, Jamison... I'm saving this and using it to answer the questions of the many, that I struggle so hard to answer.. Ben

  • hes so beautiful.really

  • Man, I would have never guessed. That's one successful transformation, I MEAN.

  • Man, I would have never guessed. That's one successful transition.

  • Jamison, thanks so much for this, you almost made me break down at the end there, dammit! I just had a LONG weekend, came out to my grandpa and his wife yesterday, then my grandma (that's the one I was dreading!) today. I officially have the coolest family ever. They were all great. I've got my letter and my appt. at the endo on the 19th, on my birthday, as it turned out.

Thank you for your example. I haven't read much of your stuff, YET, but I admire you greatly. Thanks again.

  • "Becoming a Visible Man" by Jamison Green. Highly reccomend.

  • LOL!!! i searched up jamison because thats my name, amd this was the first thing i saw.

  • Thank you Jamison and Calpernia!

  • LOL nice to see James FINALLY shaved his dang head. He was losing his hair pretty bad the last time I saw him and was doing some absolutely pathetic combover.

  • Wow, absolutely stunning! Did Jamison really begin their life as a "female"?

  • yes, he did. he wrote a book: Becoming A Visible Man. in it, he describes his transition from female to male and his advocacy for the transgender community.

  • Great documentary.

another great FtoMale transexual is Mr.Lando,he is great handsomeHot man but used to be female.

    i am amazed!!!

unlike Male to Female are countless everywhere in the world.

  • holy crap, that guy used to be a chick?!!

  • Yes, he used to be a so-called "chick".

Science works wonders for Transpeople, Doesn't it?

It could be a little better though.

  • He's very handsome... :)

  • No. He was never a "chick". He was a guy born into a female body.

  • well, there's a hell of a lot more FTMs than anybody could guess, cause we blend in so well....

  • Thank you so much for this video. I've recently (read: last night) 'come out', as it were, and so I'm a little confused/turmoiled.

This vid helped a lot. Thanks again.

  • Thank you for this life affirming video. You are unsung heroes.

  • all i can say is.. thank you. for having resources and talking about ftm/mtf and trans issues..

  • hey lisbis couldnt have said it better myself

i would like us all having to have to fit into categories

but i have favourited this video a while ago

and it is one of the better ways to get across points of human development...through video and calm voices

  • wonderful video what u r saying has revlevance way beyond just the transexual community its good advice for all who don't fit the narrow parameters that our culture provides us with.wonderful advice from 2 human beings to their fellow human beings.and from this human being thank u!

  • This is a great video and a true representation of all of us who are transgendered. I also am FTM and Jamison Green has been a great inspiration for me!

    Chris

  • Glad to see some quality coverage on FTM issues

  • This is awesome! It's really great to see so much positive representation here on youtube.

  • Brilliant!

  • I find him hugely attractive. Part of it is his demeanor. I've always loved him though.

  • This is quality programming that is reality instead of the Jerry Springer nonsense. I am happiest when we are represented by those who are normal and not exploited for the outrageous. This is great video.

  • Glad to see more discussion on FTM issues. Jamison Green is an excellent speaker and a great guy. His work is just so incredibly important, and I'm glad he's doing it.

  • Yes, they do.

  • Great Video. Both the interviewer and the interviewed are genuine transsexuals, the real deal. If you are unsure, forget about the trannies you see on Jerry Springer. These folks are not crossdressers or fetishists (AGP). Most media portrayals of us are distorted sensationalist cliched crap. These two really represent us well.

  • @Llothloryan Wow do you mean that the interviewer is transgendered also? That's amazing if so.I would have never guessed---seriously.Are you sure?

  • @charlenemonique1 yes, calpernia is trans. watch the movie "a soldier's girl". it's aBout her and the death of her Bf
